I’m going to be open. I’m a big Wilder fan, I’d never suggest he was the best football manager ever but I know that whilst ever he’s in charge we have a man making decisions with the future of the club in mind. I also know that any team he puts out will give everything, I would happily see him stay for the next 10 years.

I know there’s plenty who would like to see him go, I’m intrigued who those who would see him gone would want to see replace him. Who realistically could do a better job for us?

I can't see how you can defend Wilder? The "football" his team play is pretty poor most of the time and has been even when we've had a good season per results.
The squad he has at his disposal right now, on paper, is as good, if not better than most in this division.
Anybody out there,with half decent managerial experience would get them playing better stuff.
We need a change, sooner than later, to give a new manager a chance to turn the season around.

The squad he has assembled, and taking into consideration the shit show around him in fairness, is bloated with has beens who offer next to nothing when compared to the vast majority of opponents in the league we are in . Most teams have athletic, attack minded players - who seem organised and can last the distance - we , on the whole , have nothing like this .

As I have said on other threads , CW has boxed us into a corner through his choices - we are turgid , slow , unorganised and largely incapable beyond a deep block .

As for the players giving their all ? Perhaps they are - but that then amplifies even more the damage done .

It’s a sorry state of self designed neglect from all parties .

CW is nothing like the future and his here and now is desperate and heading rapidly towards a sad and bitter ending

It's another season, like the last one where we'll be looking over our shoulder most weeks needing to stay up. January will be vital. Then whatever division we find ourselves in, a reset has to come if the owners are serious. I want Wilder to recapture his mojo, those 4 years we had filled me with immense pride and that my club had the potential to be an established premier league side. Sadly unless he takes himself off to a cave in the peak district and has an epiphany which sparks a turnaround in his thinking, I can't see him changing.

Id normally be a bit narked at a 3 week international break but in this case it couldn't have come at a better time.

The coaching staff have a good opportunity to reassess the performances, formation , players etc .

It puts us in no excuse territory for the coming games

Really interesting interview with Billy Sharp going around where he comments the old Chris Wilder didn’t care about the opposition, only what we did. There’s was a bit of opposition work on a Friday but no more than that.

He commented that this version of Sheffield United seems to be changing their formation to try and overcome other teams strengths rather than focussing on our own.

I thought he hit the nail on the head and spoke about the situation really well.

Billy has obviously been told there is no place for him at bdtbl at the moment and subsequently it is of no detriment if he voices his opinions.
Speaks volumes that he is saying exactly what supporters are expressing

Whatever happened that lead to Chris leaving the first time has had a far bigger effect on him than 'simply' losing his job.

It changed who he is, his approach to the game and, frankly, he's lost the bottle he had in the glorious 2016 - 21 years, and no surprise too. He had years of being the Blades kingpin in the city, feted wherever he went and sharing the top tables with the best managers in the country. Of course his ego was massive, anyone's would be, but the fall from that must be difficult to still be navigating.

We now have a situation where he plays it safe with those he brings in, where his 'culture' needs his 'type' around him to justify it, even when we can all see that it simply isn't working. His coaching from the technical area is failing, the players don't have the capacity or capability to act independently and it's just not working any more.

He lost his mojo in 2021. It isn't coming back in an international break or with yet another desperate JTW.

Whilst ever grateful for those mad, ridiculous years, we can't keep hoping beyond hope that his magic suddenly returns. It's not realistic, evidenced nor is it fair on him and those close to him to continue to carry the weight of that hope.

Desperation for him to succeed is not sensible or a strategy going forward. He had his time, he has a legacy from that first tenure. I'd rather remember that than a drawn out goodbye that gets more difficult to watch over time.

Regardless of what I think about Wilder, I wish Mrs Norks would stop posting under my name!
