Isn’t that what Jay aka BladesAnalytic is/was doing at Luton?Brentford have been doing this since they were in league one so it’s good to see us adopting a similar approach. The signings obviously make the headlines now but I guess in future we’ll be able to do the deals during the longer summer window. It’s certainly a signal of the intent from the new owners in their approach and also Wilders willingness to work with this approach.
It’s noticeable that these deals got done and announced AFTER the main signings were done.
I don’t entirely think it puts pressure on the academy lads as the U23’s development squad will also be there for the new lads and the academy lads. They’ll all be playing with a higher quality or different types of players so it will help them all develop together
I think it puts pressure on us to get the academy to cat 1 as well and bring on better players as well, keep pushing the bar higher.
It’ll be interesting to see how these work out, Sheffield is certainly a diverse city with plenty of young foreign students around so we should also have a good base of a city for them.
I don't know what he does to be honest, i know he did something with Peterboro, I think which was why he had to stop doing his Blades Analytics stuff and giving his insight on the podcast. I wasn't aware / don't recall him going to Luton.Isn’t that what Jay aka BladesAnalytic is/was doing at Luton?
I've been looking more into this briefly and it just makes me even more annoyed

This player had a decent scoring record in the French second division last season. The stats are all available on Wikipedia. It took me 30 seconds to find them.
He signs for Brentford for just £1.6 million and has already scored twice in three games. At the age of 21 and a former French youth international he is likely to only get better.
Could we have scouted him before Brentford got him?
If not, why not?
If we could, why didn't we?
Every club is a local community asset ( or historically was) and with it, its own culture, so why is ours so unique that we don’t maximise the world market but still go t’corner shop?![]()
Football scouting: Hidden gems and the race to discover emerging talent

Meanwhile we don't look outside the UK because these don't fit with our culture- whatever the hell that is.
I think Wilder still being in charge is the main driver for (lack of) change.Nearly 10 years since the start of this thread and we've been to the Premier League twice and nothing has changed much. Crazy work![]()

It’s an interesting one because successive owners have palmed this off onto Wilder while controlling the purse strings and I assume having the final say?I think Wilder still being in charge is the main driver for (lack of) change.
Your probably correct in that summation .I think Wilder still being in charge is the main driver for (lack of) change.
Some of our fans will cling to the AI farce as a legitimate reason why we shouldn’t modernise now or in the future. I’d say that the signings of people like Shackleton, Rothwell, Choudhury and Cannon are much more damning of a poor recruitment framework than a few cheap punts using AI that were never allowed to see the light of day in a competitive environment. It’s an interesting one because successive owners have palmed this off onto Wilder while controlling the purse strings and I assume having the final say?
When the latest owners tried to do the scouting they walked blindly into Ai to ‘save time and money’ I presume and we ended up with ‘the worst transfer window ever’.
Still, surely it’s the owners responsibility to set up scouting systems and the like while the manager should focus on the team?
Cahill, the Australian, used as an example is the best bit about thisHe then cites how David Moyes bought Tim Cahill in the early 2000's as a model that he would like to replicate.
Astonishing.

Should have been done. Some of our fans will cling to the AI farce as a legitimate reason why we shouldn’t modernise now or in the future. We actually have to watch the 4 I’ve mentioned above and will likely have to until their deals end and go down the leagues on a free transfer.
AI using a shite model is clearly not the answer, but something different surely needs to be done.
I have been telling you for Years Wilder is long past his sell by date. For those who haven't seen the comments, at the end of the interview above around the 25 minute mark he essentially says:
'I'm not interested in players outside of UK and Scandinavia as they do not fit into our club culture'
He then cites how David Moyes bought Tim Cahill in the early 2000's as a model that he would like to replicate.
So that means if there's a talented Spanish/French player who would be interested in joining us from overseas, it appears Wilder would reject them based on those criteria.
Absolutely astonishing.

The last 30 seconds of the interview he's just saying words, that don't make any sense. It's quite funny. For those who haven't seen the comments, at the end of the interview above around the 25 minute mark he essentially says:

I heard him try and answer a Radio Sheffield question put to him regarding tactics and formations the other day and it was the same. Got himself into a right tizz and just started spouting random words, he looked out of his depth. He’s obviously feeling the pressure and should resign before it gets worse for himself and the team. The last 30 seconds of the interview he's just saying words, that don't make any sense. I was, however if Millwall had Wilder’s approach they wouldn’t have bothered bringing Cahill over from Australia in the first place and he wouldn’t have been allowed to thrive in England. You’re being a bit obtuse there. He didn’t say ‘British players’. He said ‘British-based players who are playing in the Championship or League 1’. Cahill was doing well for Millwall at the time.
I don’t agree with Wilder’s approach, by the way. The lethargy of our play suggests a lack of this elusive ‘work ethic’ that he prioritises.
I really don’t know why CW would have this suspicious attitude towards foreigners…..
Anyway changing the subject completely…..
And this is the underlying reason that the current administration needs sweeping out and replacing. For all the ‘success’ we’ve enjoyed the club is right back where it started. Look at the clubs that have overtaken us and they all have one thing in common - they’ve adapted to the new world.Nearly 10 years since the start of this thread and we've been to the Premier League twice and nothing has changed much. Crazy work![]()
