He won't have taken any sort of cut. We didn't pay a fee for him but just took over the last year of his contract effectively so we're paying £40k a week for a back up RB who isn't even a RB.
I don't think we'll be paying it all. Probably half though

I know. Leicester will have paid him the rest either via lump sum or still monthly. I believe organising how that worked was the last delay

I doubt it, they were trying to get a transfer fee out of Derby for him then reluctantly allowed him to walk for nothing. Can’t see them forgoing any fee and paying half his wages.

There's 0 chance United committed £2m to a back up RB when all other spending was so tight

You're missing the point on the points deduction. It's not a fact that it will happen, obviously. But it is a fact that it was all over the media over the potential of a points deduction and that the EFL are investigating. It's not whether it happens, it's the damage done by it. No other team has had this threat over them. If you think it's had no effect on our transfer budget then I'd very much disagree. You've not said that, don't get me wrong, but you seem determined to make out it's not fact when it is a fact that we've had this hovering over us like a cloud and it's still there. I heavily suspect this has damaged our transfer appeal this summer. Danny Hall was quoted as saying at least two players he knew if we're asking on whether we would have points deducted. It's certainly not going to help is it?

It's irrelevant that ohare was a free and I dont see your point here. The point I'm making is we lost him, Hamer and Brookes all in one window. Thats a fact and what's also a fact is that these three players contributed the bulk of our goals if you add them all up (41 goal contributions between them last season out of a total of 66 total team goals). No other team other than possibly some of the relegated PL teams have lost that number of goals/assists and they have parachute payments to assist a rebuild. Over twenty million pounds of transfer budget and so little spent in return.

I don't know where our budget sits in the division but it's definitely way lower than what we spent last season under Selles/the board

You're right re the cdms but Phillips was brought in because of his quality and Jairo because he did well last season. Maybe Wilder expected Peck to leave but who knows.

We obviously see this differently. I won't accept from you or anyone that Wilder is to blame for our shortcomings this season.
booker your a respected poster on here you cant tell me your happy watching the football united are playing this season and thats down to wilders boring tactics hes brought too many over 30s in for a start but if these players were told to move the ball faster and forward they would be doing it ive watched united for over 60 years and know that our fans wont stand for much more of these stale tactics as ive said previously i was a big fan of chris wilder in his first 2 spells at the club but not this time im sorry to say he failed at boro he failed at watford and hes failing this time at the lane i think he will be gone by the end of october

Doherty on 55k a week. Yes that's definitely right. You trust that. And people are laughing at my posts! Nobody knows what the players are on. I very much doubt those figures are accurate. Nobody knows what we're paying Phillips neither.

A quick Ai search says Capology is generally reasonably accurate but will never be an "absolute guide".

I'd certainly trust it a tad more than your "Nobody knows what we're paying ....." view.

I think we’re due for the mother of all throwing players under the bus tonight.

“Not a Sheffield United performance”

“You’ll have to ask the players”

“Enough quality on the pitch to win”

But none of it will be his fault. Formations, or tactics by the look of it, don’t win games of football apparently

Whether it’s 100% or less it’s too much.

There must be half a dozen right backs available for less than what we are paying him with room to grow and develop.

Leicester end seemed to think we were paying it all though and places online say he was our highest weekly earner back in 24/25 during his loan spell too.

Wilder probably views him as first choice. He’s slated seriki enough and seems to have this magic trust he talks about with Hamza having had him 3 times now.

Jesus… what game have we actually deserved a point from this season? What’s it going to take to realise in wilders latest tenures anything positive has come from moments of brilliance from gifted footballs and nothing to do with wilders tactical genius.
This is what I have said time and time again since we got promoted under Wilder to the Premier League in 2019 and was relegated the following season he has not been the same manager.

He took us into a steep decline after he effectively downed tools and got us relegated and then got sacked in March 2021 then Sacked again in June 2025 only to return 3 months later.

Nothing has changed with Wilder he is still the same pig headed manager that goes around in circles.

He was once one of the most forward thinking managers that was lauded by fans of the worlds biggest clubs and the world's best managers.

Some people was even talking about him for the next England job that is how well he was doing.

I think the vast majority of Blades can agree that COVID killed our momentum and when we came back we were not the same team and fell off a cliff.

We needed serious investment in the 2nd season the Prince and the board messed up big time.

Wilder clearly was unhappy and downed tools it was that obvious to many who watched the most pathetic and spinless Sheffield United Performances ever.

he was then Sacked March 2021.

he was then reappointed in December 2023 for a second stint at the club.

He proved he learned absolutely nothing from the first sacking, and I still to this day believe that it was the calibre of players that were still at the lane that got him through to June 2025 when he was sacked again after he bottled it in the play off final.

No one can tell me otherwise that he bottled it in the second half of that game against Sunderland.

His sacking in June 2025 in my personal opinion was the correct decision, but bringing in Selles was the worst decision I can remember since David Weir.

Selles had his horror show and the powers that be in all their Wisdom decide to bring Wilder back.

I genuinely for the life of me do not understand why we brought him back, i would rather the owners give a young up and coming manager that bloods some of the young academy players.

They can't do any worse than some of the so called seniors players that are stealing a wage right now.

The Fleetwood game topped it off for me bwcause there is genuinely nothing positive about watching our beloved club under his stewardship i am really sad to say.

It is gutting how it has panned out because as i say, Chris Wilder was once one of the most forward thinking managers that had has us playing exciting football that was being lauded by fans from the biggest clubs in the world and the world's best managers and talked about in line for the England job.

He is now in my opinion not good enough to manage our club, we have become awful to watch there is no energy about us.

There is no pride no passion no commitment and no leadership, the only lad I see out there with any leadership qualities that has something about him is Sydie Peck.

you can all bookmark this post he will go to the top one day and play at the top level with with Illiman Ndiaye, those who fail to see what the lad brings are clearly blind and know the square root of F.A.

I am sorry to say I genuinely cannot be bothered to watch us anymore under Wilder going to Bramall Lane was once the highlight of my week.

Now it depresses the life out of me watching the same old turgid sidewards and backwards football that Infuriates me.

The one thing I have always said i can take losing a match if we have a go and I can applaud the team but some of the losses have literally boiled my blood to the point that I felt like throwing seats.

I don't know about you guys/girls but genuinely fail to see where we go from here under Chris Wilder.

And for those old enough to remember the vile atmospheres of the past i don't want to ever experience some of the things I experienced during the Robson era for example because that nearly put me off attending full stop fans fighting each other and some fans even going as far as remonstrating with him it was truly horrible.

But I fear for Wilder if it carries on like thia Blade or no Blade fans will let him have it ans rightly so.

It is time he left once and for all i am afraid.

The thing I’m finding increasingly weird is how often he bigs himself up in interviews. It’s very odd. I’ve not heard any other manager do that. Maybe Mourinho, but that’s always tongue in cheek, and he knowingly plays the arch villain.

My view is that he doesn’t think he gets the credit he thinks he deserves. He certainly did, deservedly, during 2016-20, absolutely loads of it from everywhere, but he hasn’t got too much to point at since then. Maybe he allowed the adulation of the successful years to go to his head and he can’t cope with the loss of status and can’t accept that as his powers are now on the wane and football has moved on he’s unlikely to ever get that level of acclaim again. It happened, it was fantastic, but it’s gone.

If that’s the case, then I can understand the psychology of it. When you’ve touched the stars it can’t be easy to have to come back to earth. It’s a bit like a boxer coming back for one fight too many, sad to watch.

His days with us have to be close to an end now, it’s not going to get any better and the club really needs to start the process of moving forward.

To approach this thread from a different angle, what smaller adjustments could Wilder do, in the short to medium term to improve things on a match day?

My initial thoughts:
  • Go to 3-5-2.
  • Within the central midfield, play Peck and Blaster higher up, in front of s CDM.
  • Keep Hamza to CDM only.
  • Go after some front foot football for a bit. Even if it costs us at times, start having a go.

We play crap in a league cup match. It's not as if losing to lower league opponents in a cup is anything new for most if not all of the managers we've had in my lifetime.

I can't seriously believe people want Wilder out based on how we've done this season. Sacking him would be madness. The current team is very average. No Seriki, no One neither which massively doesn't help. The lack of budget, selling all of our attacking quality. Then the potential points deduction.

It's the equivalent of making a cake with dog poo and expecting it to taste like a beautiful wedding cake and then blaming the chef.

So wish Wilder out of you want. Because I promise you we'll be relegated if we do. This season is a stay up season, maybe mid table at best.
Another one that is glad of sloppy seconds. We are sleep walking towards relegation with this team,no threat,no guile, can’t defend, turgid football, tactically outthought game after game ,shocking fitness, signings of past it,laughable players etc.
we are 3k down on support this season, next season another 3k down, but he’s a safe pair of hands. It’s happening in front of you and you will not recognise the problem.

I’ve never heard the words “ that’s on me,I’m taking the rap” . He hangs the players every time.

Is it wrong that I’m kinda hoping for 2 bad performances so it accelerates this?

I fear a plucky draw v Stoke then a tepid 1-0 win v Lincoln keeps him in post

I think he’ll be in post until the end of the season, but can’t see him being here beyond that.
Agree with Nick and what I also think is that no matter how poor Wilder is this season, he will keep us up. If we change manager before next summer I really do think we'll plummet down to league one 😦

When he came back for the second time, he referred to himself as a premier league manager several times in quick succession after taking over from Hecky as well as in the sandwich incident.

Technically he was, but it was Hecky that had got us promoted before he came back.

He thinks he is a premier league manager and everything else has conspired against him and taken it from him. It’s only last week that Pep was saying that he’s the manager he’s learned to most from recently you know!

Premier league manager on a league one trajectory.

You know as well as I do that he won't change it. He doesn't change

That's like saying Kean Bryan was a Premier League player. Technically true, but meaningless, just like if Wilder was to claim he doesn't have a PL relegation on his "CV" when he jumped a sinking ship

Which will suit Wilder fine at the end of the season we will be in a far worse state than we found ourselves in this summer with very few assets to sell to bring money in. If Wilder does hang on until the seasons end he will walk then for sure. Where will that leave a new management team? Hardly any players left worth a wank the only upside is Dads Army will be gone, the new management team will then have to bring in around 15 players with no money in the kitty. Far better for Wilder to go now and give a new man time to build for next season whether we are in this league or the one below. No guarantee at all that dinosaur Wilder will keep us in the championship, it's looking less likely each game that passes.

I'm shocked by how slow he looks. For all his lack of technical ability he was supreme athlete in early 2025. He looks about 35 now
I remember him looking very athletic in his early 20s - maybe I overestimated? But maybe he's another one like Phillips who's been able to sit pretty for years on a miraculous contract way beyond his ability and just toss it off

He didn't look very athletic in his last spell to me but was still quite effective, at Hillsborough especially

He was in a good team though. He isn't now. That might explain the difference. He's one of the many I refer to when I say on their own merits they are L1 level or L1 bound
