To approach this thread from a different angle, what smaller adjustments could Wilder do, in the short to medium term to improve things on a match day?

My initial thoughts:

• Go to 3-5-2.
• Within the central midfield, play Peck and Blaster higher up, in front of s CDM.
• Keep Hamza to CDM only.
• Go after some front foot football for a bit. Even if it costs us at times, start having a go.

I agree with all that entirely.

Unfortunately I feel CW is too stubborn at this point to realise what he is doing isn't working so why would he make wholesale changes?

Just listen to the full interview after last night. It's one of the most deluded 8 minutes I've ever heard.

I’d have Rob Edwards as manager personally. Liked him at Luton, and did well at Boro until he left to go to Wolves who were already going down. Out of a job and his stock is probably low enough for us to actually get him in.

The thing I’m finding increasingly weird is how often he bigs himself up in interviews. It’s very odd. I’ve not heard any other manager do that. Maybe Mourinho, but that’s always tongue in cheek, and he knowingly plays the arch villain.

My view is that he doesn’t think he gets the credit he thinks he deserves. He certainly did, deservedly, during 2016-20, absolutely loads of it from everywhere, but he hasn’t got too much to point at since then. Maybe he allowed the adulation of the successful years to go to his head and he can’t cope with the loss of status and can’t accept that as his powers are now on the wane and football has moved on he’s unlikely to ever get that level of acclaim again. It happened, it was fantastic, but it’s gone.

If that’s the case, then I can understand the psychology of it. When you’ve touched the stars it can’t be easy to have to come back to earth. It’s a bit like a boxer coming back for one fight too many, sad to watch.

His days with us have to be close to an end now, it’s not going to get any better and the club really needs to start the process of moving forward.

He’s surrounded himself with people who treat him like God because of what he did 6+ years ago, and for doing the double over Wednesday twice (once against the worst Wednesday side we’ll ever play). To them he’s untouchable.

He’s becoming more and more unlikeable. His arrogance that always rubbed opposition fans up the wrong way is now doing the same to a lot of our fanbase.

I said to the group around me when he came back " if you think this guy is going to get us promoted back into the premier league you're deluded, he's yesterday's man!.. I stand by that statement now, the game has moved on even at manager level and pashun and effort will only get us so far, but he can't see it, I think it hurts him because he knows this and the pressure is starting to mount, you can tell because he starts stammering during interview and never admits his fault however bad it is,. The rumoured Souttar bid was imo a smokescreen to keep the fans on side during the summer, it was never going to happen, the pre season he wanted has proved to be no benefit at all, so far and his signings this summer have been no better or worse than last summer, the fitness issues haven't improved and I honestly believe he picking the team just hoping we'll click. What went off with Knill leaving no-one knows, no club statement or explanation from a guy who's been with him all through his management career, somethings gone off. yes, the finances aren't great atm , but if we had bigger investors I wouldn't trust him with the money, we need to be contacting available managers now with a view to replacing him asap,

im a romantic when it comes to sport. I always want the fairytale ending, even though I've been around sport long enough to know they rarely happen. its why i was delighted that sharp didnt get a contract for 23/24 because lifting that trophy & open top bus parade was the best time to say goodbye

That's why if this carries on & it doesnt improve. I'd love Wilder to leave like Klopp, we get to may, hopefully stay up . Not dragged out, not sacked, not hated, not through the backdoor. Announce it before the end of the season. Give everybody time to process it.

Then, on the final home game v millwall, let Bramall Lane give Chris Wilder the send-off he deserves, that he never got because of covid the 1st time, play off final the 2nd time. Bramall Lane says thank you, bring back all the old players, show him his best bits, the derby wins, last minute wins, premier league season, give him an award, give him a speech

I don't want to see Chris Wilder's Sheffield United career end with supporters turning on him. I don't want the greatest memories of the last decade to become arguments about whether he should have gone 6 months earlier.

Most of these players are his signings now.

Agree with you there Ben.
BUT......They are signings made due to the position our owners have put him him in. They are the ones who've left him in the (not so) bargain basement type of players we have had to go for.
Ok you could say why hasn't he gone for the young up and coming potential talent. But that's just as big a gamble.
What we have at the moment are experienced, but aging, signings. Whose legs have either gone or are going.
It's not going to be pretty this season.
