If we do sack Wilder then once, just for once, can we not rush the replacement appointment and actually interview people, or consider poaching a manager from someone else? The sad reality is that this club probably would go back to Hecky. The performances could remain crap but we might start winning and for a lot of fans that's enough because they won't accept that the performance is as, if not more important than the results. Good performances lead to good results. Good results with poor performances gradually lead to a downfall which is exactly what has happened to us over the last two seasons.

Being honest we've played badly for nearly five seasons now. In our promotion season under Hecky we didn’t play amazingly well all season. The following season was an inevitable shambles. The season after that we were outplayed by nearly everyone we came up against but somehow got to 92 points. Other than a run of about 7 games last season we were dire all of last season with inconsistent results. As for this season it's been a shameful embarrassment.

Why do teams with lower budgets and "inferior" squads always play better football than us home and away? Why aren't Sheffield United fans allowed to watch a good game of football and able to walk out of a ground saying "we played really well today?"

Why do our fans accept mediocrity so easily, and worse than that defend it. Bang average players get hero worshipped or exaggerated. I just don't get why we can't play football if it's not the manager who's at fault.
You've hit the nail on the head when you say it's been shit for 5 years.

Individual quality moments in the likes of Hamer, Souza & Anel (Which he didn't buy btw) got us through a lot of matches in the 90 point season.

Let's not pretend he'd get good players in if he had money either. Look at his history of big money purchases.

Yep, other than a couple of months around the Christmas period last season, we’ve not looked convincing or exciting under Wilder since early 2020. Over 6 years ago…

Yes we got 92 points. But we also blew automatic promotion after being in the top two most of the season. We then blew our best chance ever of actually winning the play-offs. This with one of the biggest budgets in the league.

His first spell was the best ever, but there’s been very little to hand your hat onto since before lockdown.

Well I'm at a loss to know how anyone can defend Wilder after that performance. He has got to go. Some of the players might back him but the fans have turned. I don't see how it can get any worse.
Only problem is the owners don't have a plan b as replacement there clueless as been proved last time and can't see it changeing.

Campbell looks disinterested, unfit and absolutely bone idle. Yet the genius that is Chris Wilder gives him a 3 year Contract. What message does this give to other players who might be average but at least give 100 percent%? Is Campbell one of his favourites? He’s had them before., unable to give them a kick up the arse but instead picks on players who probably don’t answer him back. I’m so sick of the fucking Club, I’ve never been more apathetic than I feel now after 45 years watching them. For Gods sake Chris, go. Enough is enough.
Reason he was given a new deal was to at least give some value to him if we ever sell him.

Look at the history of small money purchases as well, this stretches back to the first promotion season from L1, and a lot of the loan players as well.
Robinson, Leonard,Evans, that one who peed on people at the horse racing...there's loads who hardly lasted 2 minutes after getting them in

Double negative - he does have a problem then.

For starters, the group he said he now trusted on Sunday, he suddenly doesnt three days later.
Think its a few and we don't need to read between the lines as they showed us as much with their performance.

Jairo
Campbell
Rothwell

Embarrassing from these 3 last night.

Doherty isn't far behind and justifying why Wilder went and got Hamza.

Who'd have predicted that Campbell would turn out to be a lazy shit? Never saw that one coming...

Who'd have predicted Riedeweld would be slow and disinterested? Never saw that one coming....

Seriously, the surprise is, he is surprised.

Offering contracts to those two players rather than 'gambling' on younger more dynamic players is just bonkers.

Get rid so we can bring him back in the Summer.. I'm sick to death of his voice and the excuses. He's a dinosaur, his time has been and gone, we need to leave him behind and move away. Unless we go on a prolonged losing streak the board won't do anything, he's got a nice contract to protect him so he's sorted either way. Made a decent managerial career out of getting a good contract and then being paid out.

Do you think Wilder sees us as a mid to low Championship team? I agree that we are at that level, but the signings we’ve made (older, short term deals and loans) suggests we giving it a real go this season and then next season we’ll rebuild.

We set up in matches like we’ve a relegation team, but the players we bring in suggest the opposite.

We should’ve sacrificed some short term experience to build for a promotion push next season or the season after. This season is pointless to me because we’ll be in a worse position come the end of season.
You're correct ,
but you must be confusing dem Blades with a club owned & CEO'd & managed by some fecker who has a clue.
From the absent clueless owners , all the way down to the old farts on a short-term contract , my club has inexplicably damaged itself from within

Reason he was given a new deal was to at least give some value to him if we ever sell him.

The Campbell of the third place season costs an amount we can't afford. 26 years old so should be in his prime. The club was always going to renew. The problem is that he's shown no signs of recapturing that. At the minute he looks woefully unfit. He's the great mystery of the current squad.

Yes, I will still appreciate him. I will appreciate everything good that he's done for this club over the many, many years he's had a professional association with us. I will also continue to understand that he's human and that, as such, he isn't perfect; he has flaws and makes mistakes just like everyone else.

I often see, on here, the accusation that those of us still supporting Wilder are blind to his faults, that we're in a cult, and that he can do no wrong with us. That's nonsense. I know he has faults. The difference is that I don't and won't hold the fact that he's human, and has faults and imperfections, against him.

I hope that we won't get relegated, but if we do, I will understand and appreciate that he will have done his absolute level best to avoid that outcome, and I won't allow one relegation working under extremely difficult circumstances, to tarnish my memories of the good times I've enjoyed under his stewardship, or to tarnish my appreciation for him and what he's achieved for this club, both as manager and player.

Others have seemingly already allowed the fact that he's not perfect, that he couldn't pull off keeping us in the top flight playing innovative, exciting football forever, to tarnish their feelings for him, and their memories of the good times with him. I find that sad. Life is difficult and stressful enough, without allowing the fact that magical moments don't last forever, to spoil your enjoyment and appreciation of those magical moments.

I will continue to look for the good. I will continue to look at my avatar and see one of my all-time favourite managers holding up the shirt of one of my all-time favourite players and know that there is beauty in that picture. There is the beauty of a man having such respect, such appreciation, and such love, for a player sadly lost, that he carries that player's shirt around with him to every match, and holds it high. And the beauty of knowing that, while that player's life was cut cruelly short, within that life, however short, there was joy, success, celebration and happiness, in part because of his time spent with us enjoying the achievements and success that were brought about, in part, because of his relationship with the man holding his shirt.

So, yes, I will continue to appreciate Chris Wilder. I won't allow the fact that he's not perfect and can't keep the best times going forever because he's human, to spoil everything good, everything positive, and everything joyous, that he's brought to my club, my memories, and my life.
Nice eulogy , but can you wait till he's actually gone ?
Then you can start to summarise his last ten years.
Four very good , six (on & off) bad , then really bad.

Surely that's where a good coach who's worked with the guy for a couple of years knows how he's going to react to getting a new contract? He knows what makes him tick. Is he a carrot or stick type of player?

At the time it looked a ridiculous decision and it's looking even after now...

All those defending him are doing so on the basis that it will all somehow work out. Despite what they are actually witnessing now.
That was me, until today. Normally, my anger disappears over night, it turns to sadness. Today, I'm even more angry. In his interview, Wilder appeared happy with the first half. 'Went off script' second half. Bollocks. They were a disgrace, on the whole, with a few exceptions. Own it Wilder or feck off.

Same script / plan we’ve followed all season and most of last.

Get out played, out worked, cough up possession and create absolutely nothing.

Solid plan Chris 👍 it’s working

I love CW and will be forever grateful for the memories he gave us all from 2016-2021 and 24/25 season. But i've got to say, especially from his first stint. He's changed. More arrogance, more stubbornness, more bitterness, the football is a world away from back then. Not really sure what's happened to him to be honest, gone from being a relatively "young" manager when we first got him, actually quite progressive changing to the back 5 and overlapping cb's and him and knilly working little things from corners and free kicks. That's gone now. We've now got a version whose football wouldn't look out of place in the dregs of non-league and a squad which to be honest is highly unlikeable, still imo. No creativity, no attacking intent, defensively all over the shank. And i don't know the solution. Sack him and get who else in? and with what money? Keep him and we are hoping this 80's style football gets us some results here and there to keep us up!

Yeah, maybe. Not sure if it's football related. Who knows. He seems to have lost his hunger (pun not intended). 25 is really young to give up on maximising your potential whatever the reason. It's so frustrating knowing that if he sorts himself out he's our best striker rather than our worst. I heard talk about a personal fitness plan some time ago, but there's no sign of that working with players who were behind him seemingly getting stronger than him.

He's following a similar story arc to Mousset isn't he. When fit and motivated - best player in the squad. But constantly hoping that he regains that, isn't really a strategy. And we have too many players in that position. Phillips, BBD, Rothwell....

Elite level sporting programmes sadly aren't built on IFS....

Exactly. There's only so many times you can kick the can down the road with anyone. If you think about It his contract extension is weird anyway: a one year extension on a 25/26 year old. It doesn't scream confidence 🤔. It wouldn't surprise me if he has a magical resurgence next season just as we're prepared to offload and we get nothing for our 20 goal, contract rebel marksman 🤣.

If they don't find the money for quality permanents we're fucked anyway. It's a matter of time. We're doing the whole trying to resist gravity in iron boots thing at the minute. There's only so long that'll work.

Last night was a disgrace.

Reading these comments in a hotel room in Blackpool with rain lashing the windows

The "Style" of football seems to be give it to the one creative player and hope they can do something.

The endless passing with no purpose.

No pace.

We pass it for ages, give it to Cooper who lumps it upfield to our forwards who either can't read the game or can't be arsed, lose possession almost instantly, we win it back and the whole cycle starts again.

No creativity, no speed, no hard low crosses from the touchline, no height. We don't create anything. One shot last night before we threw the kitchen sink at it from the 84th minute. Not sure what game Wilder watched - It wasn't the same one I did.

It's a team of old washed out players and journeymen footballers.

I thought we were lower mid table, but after last night, that might be optimistic.

Something needs to change, and the obvious thing is the manager. His style of play is boring (if there is one), and his pressers are boring. The whole thing is boring.

Time for a change.

Hecky back short term to keep us up.

Rob Edwards if we are starting to look forwards.

Anyone but Wilder and his boring, boring Wilderball

I'm really surprised I'm not reading the headlines that Wilder has been sacked this morning. I really hope the Yanks have been sounding out a replacement over the last few weeks. Strange that Rosen turns up for a game and Steve Cooper was in the stands recently, I'd take him in a heartbeat. The thing is now the squad is overloaded with Wilder types old, slow, coming back from injury, legs have gone players living off past reputations most of them will leave next summer after banking their last pay day.

Make no mistake Wilder is taking us to League One, I think he sacrificed Knilly to save his own job after being told to make changes, the owners are probably already regretting that contract extension. League One will be a disaster for the owners did they cut off funding after seeing how the first few games went and who Wilder was trying to sign (£10m Souter). Maybe the only option left for them now is to find some cash from anywhere pay Wilder up and bring in a new manager, we may still be relegated but at least we will be moving forward and developing our own young players from an excellent academy rather than throwing good money at Wilders mates and old has been's. To me, it is at the stage where the owners can't afford to not make a change.

I’m at a point where I’m starting to believe that CW is trying to get fired.

Look at the facts. We’ve known all summer we’ll have a tight budget.

CW gets in senior players like Phillips, Ayew, Choudhury and Doherty on loans and frees, meaning we save money in signing fees but likely pay more in wages.

We chase Souttar all summer and even come close to paying £10m for him. £10m. So far this season he’s been poor at Leicester, imagine if he’s doing the same here.

CW knows we need some legs in midfield, and on the left, and ideally CBs. He loses Hamer, Brooks and COH and replaces with BBD and a loanee.

We don’t use all loan slots available to us.

He says things like “Shackleton is going to have a big season” and “he trusts the players” then comes out with the utter shit of last night about knowing who does and doesn’t need to play now. It’s not preseason, how don’t you know that by now?

He throws players under the bus (again), complains about things that happen every season (deadline day) and looks for the next break as the main focus for a reset (preseason / international break).

He talks about key players being out, he means Chong and Seriki, one raw and the other being still a youngster. Are these game changers then?

Last night, versus L2 opposition, we finished the game with Bamford, BBD, Ayew, Cannon and Donovan on the pitch. FIVE attacking threats. Fucking FIVE.

Sounds great doesn’t it, except it’s shit, because who’s supplying them Chris? Same as last season, we’re chasing a lead so throw everyone on and hope something happens.

It’s not tactical genius, it’s relying on moments of quality, now without quality players.

At a leadership training course a few years ago, my instructor said something to me that’s always stuck:

“There’s no I in team, but there’s five in Individual Brilliance”.

The point being working as a team is preferred, but sometimes you need someone to grab a situation and shine.

That’s been our tactic since he came back for round three. Keep it tight and give it to a better player and hope something happens.

As for walking away from the travelling fans, who does he think he is? These people have paid and traveled and given their time up to watch that utter shit served up, and you can’t even acknowledge that?

He’s lost the dressing room obviously, and he’s losing the fans fast.

Two or three more performances like that and it’ll turn very nasty.

I'd love to know what the plan was. Stay solid so the mighty Fleetwood can't play through us? If he thinks that was a good first half performance we really are in trouble!

Too early in the season to sack him, in my opinion. I don't think the squad is as good as you're suggesting but midtable, yes.

Let's see what he can do in the games after the international break. But something needs to change sharpish because at the moment it feels like a relegation season.

What about when we’re still shit after the break - give him until January? Then until the end of the season?

Just get rid now, along with everyone in the club who follows him blindly.
