Wilder skulking off at the end of the game

It’s his job to front up and speak to the press. There’d have been videos of him naked downing dirty pints and singing about Le Bris if we’d won, he can’t just skulk off if we lose.

He’s proved his big game approach is terrible this season, we’ve squeaked past the shite pigs twice but apart from that we’ve bottled any big game.

I couldn't really give a toss, actions speak louder than words, if he'd come out and admitted he'd derailed our promotion attempt with a series of disastrous decisions and utterly idiotic ones like putting an injured player on as sub I'd be minded to listen.

5 play off finals now 2 of them managed by "big blades" I'm sick of it now and no words from him nor any of the other series of bottlers is worth listening to. IMO
You my friend are a clown. Let me tell you. We have over achieved this season!

It’s also not good for us fans and the team. He loses all objectivity as “a fan”, but also an egotistical character. I’m convinced the decision to keep playing Robinson was down to Wilders perception that character/pashun trumps ability and he had to stay loyal to his captain. Convinced he wouldn’t use Holding because that implies failure in his judgment. Convinced that BBD and Brookes were selected ahead of JRS because in Wilders head he’ll be proved right with BBD and Brookes is “one of our own”. In what Universe is the goal threat and scary pace of JRS to be sacrificed for BBD? And then there is……. Tom Cannon

Wilder. It really is all about him and not us.

Well that's the other thing about Wilder. Constantly trying to prove our fans wrong about certain players or the way we play.

The fact he didn't even bring Holding on to see out the game says everything about Wilder's ego.

According to Polly we were up as champions some time back. Notwithstanding me suggesting he was getting a bit previous and to watch the Hubris, he wasn’t having any of it. You have to have some sympathy for a poster into whose life reality has finally seeped.

I bloody well hope so, he was 100% to blame for that. Changed to sitting deep in the second half….again. We battered them by being on the front foot in the first half. How many times, in the second half, did we get wide, in space up the pitch only to stop and recycle across the back - thats an instruction from him, no question.
yes and if we hadnt employed those tactics all through the season we would have won the league and not been anywhere wembley yesterday he has to go

Do you know what? It counts for naff all now, but:
Record number of points for a 3rd place finish.
Record semifinal aggregate win.
Record points gap between 6th, and 4th.

We've done an awful lot right this season. And I know folk poke fun at Bladeyness, but he gets it, and he cares. If his hearts in it, and he shows flexibility in the transfer market/tactics, He'll do for me.

It's hard to forget that we are still very early into a much needed, large rebuild. Yesterday's defeat and subsequent losses to the squad will complicate that. But equally, there were no guarantees that promotion would've led to certain players (Souza, Hamer, Anel, Peck) staying anyway.
Sorry mate, I find this now parochial nonsense.

Maybe when he took over from Atkins this was a fair take but not any more.

Sadly though, this will be used as a stick to beat the next manager unless they get off to a flyer and continue it.

I mean I’m not his biggest fan but let’s be right.

This is a team and fanbase who have just experienced/witnessed a fall at the final hurdle in terms of automatic promotion. Got themselves back up and then been sucker punched in the final game of the season with 15 minutes to go. The knock out blow was deep into injury time from an unstoppable strike (sure it was given away cheaply).

I don’t really begrudge anyone, fans or players, for just going ‘oh fuck off and leaving’. Then was not the moment for pats on the back or moments of appreciation

but he's also a huge Blades fan first and foremost and would be feeling gutted. I just wanted to be left alone after the final whistle for at least a couple of hours so I think it's too easy to have a go at him for that. He's still just a man who has his own feelings and disappointments and probably feels he has let people down.
What happened to "we win as a team and we lose as a team"? Yes he's a fan but as manager, he should have gone out to the team and the fans before bobbying off. He's a middle-aged bloke who is paid gazillions to manage a professional football club and if he's unable to conduct himself professionally, then he should be out. This is where the pashun of "he's one of our own" works against him/us.

We waited around til the final few, waiting for him to re-emerge. Didn't see him, though. Assumed he must've been doing media somewhere.

Souza, Hamer, Choudhury, Peck staying notably longer.

What about when the fans are wrong about certain players, as the often spectacularly are? He's not trying to prove them wrong, he's just picking the best team.

Hordes of deluded fans who pick on scapegoats and then imagine their potential replacements are world class are difficult to deal with.

Surprised there’s no individual thread about Wilder going AWOL at the end of the game. As a leader of any organization you lead by example, through good times and in bad. Rather than disappearing down the tunnel as fast as he could (which is what appeared to be the case from s113) he should have pulled the players together and led them to thank the fans rather than leaving them out there to make their own decisions as to what to do. His emotions as a supporter overrode his responsibility as a manager. Totally shameful. Hats off to Hamza being the one who came over first (and stayed last).
Almost like there’s a cult following…

I think I was as vocal as anyone else in the ground throughout the game and I left when the winner went in, honestly the last thing on my mind was whether Wilder applauds the fans or not when we’ve just lost at Wembley on 95 mins.

In what sense? We had the 3rd biggest budget, finished 3rd. Started the season with Anel, Souza, Arblaster and Hamer and a fuckload of cash (in comparison to 20 other teams. Almost every manager in the EFL woukd bite your hand off for that opportunity.

The owners may well back him, but if they let him spend any money on "big signings" then they can **** off. We need a director of football and a change in direction. Wilder cannot be trusted with a chequebook anymore.

Cooper - no complaints
Burrows - no complaints
McCallum - bang average limited player
Shackleton - poor signing
Gilchrist - played out of positional for half a season and became the weak link as a result
Holding - superior player to Robinson, but hey, Jack's my favourite. What a lad!
Rak-Sayki - inconsistent over rated crap player
Clarke - pointless signing
Souttar - fantastic player
Campbell - fantastic player.... but only for 60 minutes, all season..... when he's not injured
BBD - unfit, sluggish and woeful
Moore - only plays well with a partner, played up top alone for large parts
Cannon - expensive flop (see Moore)
Choudhury - poor in midfield, make shift right back where he excelled

Once again the poor signings far outweighed the good ones.
Bang on again 👏

Agree with the first 4.

My question is, is it really unrealistic for supporters to expect young athletes on salaries the rest of us can only dream about to be able to last 90 minutes?

We need a don't buy crocks mentality.
Well do get that, Wilder & his staff need removing... ain't going to happen sadly!

For me this is the biggest issue, more so than footballing issues.

If we aim to become an established Premier league club and therefore a global brand, he really isn't someone you'd want to be the face of our club or city around the world.
He acts like a pub team manager (Red lion, Dog&duck).. and I mean no disrespect to pub team managers, but he's allegedly a professional club manager acting like one.

Never before has the top two teams amassed 100pts.

This means it is very unlikely 2 teams will get the same total again next season.

If we manage to improve on our tally from the season gone, we're up.

I fear though, a lot of our tally was dependant on Hamer.

Wouldn't know mate was that disappointed as soon as whistle went I was off. VAR killed us stone dead, not saying decision was wrong but VAR shouldn't have been there. Everyone was waiting for us to capitulate and as usual it came in injury time, you really couldn't write it. David Hopkins all over again, there is no justice in this game for us blades. It's probably a blessing in discise cos if you can't beat a piss poor Sunderland what chance have you got in the cheat league.

The top two last season might not have got over 100 points but they still got more than the 90 (or 92) we got this season - Leicester 97 and Ipswich 96.

He has embarrassed us this season with some of his behaviour he has a major job to do now.

He is a fan, yes, and most of them had fucked off well before the final whistle - he did (almost) likewise,

4 of them managed by people ingrained in old school ways of effort, brawn and a defensive mindset first over technical ability and playing effective attacking football (Warnock, Blackwell, Morgan and Wilder). Wilson was the only one who actually had us playing football despite the play offs ending in disaster.
I thought I'd been to all the play-off finals, but obviously I missed the one with Morgan in charge. I do remember one, though, with that master-purveyor of beautiful football, Howard Kendall, at the helm, and that was arguably the worst performance of the lot.
