Scary that Tom Cannon....

Do the other three he scored against Portsmouth that weren't penalties not count as being from open play?

U know what he was saying lol, excluding the portsmouth game...

If he had sat that one out, he would have only scored 4 penalties and 1 open play goal.

9 goals are 9 goals.

Doesn't matter if they were all scored in one game or nine different games.

I get what you're saying, but we'll have to agree to disagree.

Scoring open play goals in only 2 different matches throughout the whole season is poor for me.

It's not even true though.

He's scored from open play this season against Portsmouth, QPR, Luton and Sunderland.

He also scored from open play in the League Cup against Southampton.

If we get promoted no-one will probably care but if we don't, the new owners might not be impressed that they supported the manager to such an extent at this level for a player who barely plays because he doesn't look up to it, but equally clearly doesn't fit the way we play.

And being late paying an instalment of Brewster's fee has cost us a precious two points. Buying him was a poor piece of business all round. Hope it doesn't turn out the same for Cannon.

I don't think it's his fault he just really really doesn't meld with our 'style' of play.

Yet he’s also signed a load of players that have been some of our hero’s over the last few years & most of the current crop who aren’t doing too bad either.

I can’t think of a manager who’s put better squads together than Wilder in recent history.
He’s good, but he’s not good enough.

Time to drop the “he’s one of our own” “if we get promoted he’s earned his chance at PL” etc. he’s not of the modern age of football, he’s not tactically aware, he can only manage players trying to make it or revive their careers. He’s not a manager that could inspire proven talent or hold on to real developing gems.

IF we get promoted owners need to strip club bare, honour our history but put it in the empty trophy cabinet and give us a new modern identity and that starts with a new management team fit for purpose in the PL.

Miss the opportunity like we did yesterday and we’ll be trawling lower leagues and watching Wilder full of Peroni singing BBC songs for years to come.

I think yesterday was one of the most important losses in our history. Our destiny was in our own hands for once to win the championship for the first time in our history, get promoted to the PL and utilise the power and ambition of new owners and Wilders tactics and motivation came up so short it was infuriating. He blew it to Oxford United who hadn’t won in 11.

More of the same or a new dawn? Make your choice owners.

Like Leicester & Southampton have done? Unless you’ve got the budget and infrastructure to bring in a manager like Brighton, Forest, Palace etc have done then there’s no point as the two mentioned have found out.

We’ve lost one gone, stop over reacting. If we’re promoted you’d seriously sack a manager that has been promoted despite a -2 start, won more games than anyone else in the league while rebuilding a full squad at the same time.

We were excellent against Coventry/ Boro. Lose against Oxford in a windy bobbly stadium and we want him out. Pathetic.

Yes, he’s not up to PL. done a reyt good job getting us here but he’s been given enough to put a good squad of players to do it. No way should we keep playing SO BAD and manager just blames players.

As for over reacting I’ve said same since it was rumoured he was coming back int front door after ducking out of the back door. It’s not just this game, we’ve only put 2 good performances in this season, others were just good results

Wilder has done brilliant for us this season, but he shouldn't be allowed to spend money on strikers. The amount he's spent on McBurnie, Brewster and now Cannon is insane.

We should have bought Tanganga with this money.

I presume you said the same thing at the time? That's the thing about a lot of fans these days, 99% say at the time it's a reyt signing, then suddenly when it goes tits up say I told you so

The modern world

But you said if we’re promoted the owners need to make a decision?

I can’t think of any team in history that have sacked their manager in the summer after being promoted from the championship.

That would be ridiculous, especially after the stuff he’s had to deal with this season. A lot of pundits had us down for a similar season to what Luton are experiencing.

As for playing style that everyone keeps banging on about I can’t think of a Sheffield United team other than Wilders 2018-20 team had a real identity while being successful. We’ve always been a hardworking & hard to beat team like your Warnock & Bassett style - Howard Kendall had a playing style but we didn’t win anything with it.

There’s only been 4 managers in most of our blades history that has achieved any sort of success Bassett, Warnock, Hecky & Wilder - all British based signing mainly domestically (other than Hecky under united world).

Unless the club completely changes which it hasn’t done for most of our lifetimes we’re a better team & club with this type of manager.
