Hello all, Roygbiv and I have recorded a new episode covering both the Sunderland and Watford games, and a little bit on the Cardiff one too. Immense effort from the Blades to get the win at Watford in particular, hopefully reinforcements are now on the way... thanks for listening!

Just accidentally clicked on the above, thought you were both doped up to the eyeballs until I realised that I normally listen on 1.2x speed 😂

Slagging off Scotland players AGAIN. Bladespod agenda. Only we can slag of Grant Hanley for being a donkey 😡😂

I’ve already said on Souttar thread we should go and get his brother from Rangers so we can carry on singing the song to the tune of the Macarena

Worst song for a long time, proven by the away fans kinda muttering along with it to be polite until it fizzles out. Awful :p

Fair play to you 5 mins later you said Porteous would get in our team, so on balance I will rate your views on Scottish centre backs as net neutral

Enjoying it as always but as someone who is not insane I am duty bound to point out that saying you’d prefer Brewster to take a penalty is insane.

His one asset is twatting it really hard. Eventually he'd score I reckon

Excellent listen as always gents.

Afternoon S2,

Roygbiv and I just recorded a long old podcast where we look back through Prince Abdullah's time as Sheffield United owner (joint and sole) to try and reappraise everything that went on and ultimately ask ourselves... was he a good, bad, or just plain lucky owner? We also tick off the Cardiff game and discuss the Tom Cannon rumour.

Really enjoyed this one, hope you do too.

Did you make this in the vain hope we might sign someone during the record?

Excellent podcast as usual.
Interesting to relive those wilderness (Wilder-less?) years. The season when Clough’s head went, when we were expecting to challenge, and the disastrous Adkins season.
Wholly agree on two particular points. How our fringe players constantly underperform in cup games when you’d expect they would be eager to impress and I’m not enthusiastic about signing Cannon for what seems like a high fee. It does seem like we don’t have alternative options.
Beans called it in the previous podcast when he said that we’d get a crowd of about 6k for the Cardiff game.

Just wanted to say that I really enjoyed this episode! As much as I love your game summaries, if we win to relive it, if we lose to get therapy (:D), you both do a great job of recounting old events. Like the Prince era, or particular seasons or games, or player tributes. Keep doing them, if you get the time!

Fantastic pod. Up there with the very best you've done and that's a high bar. I think the Prince was, good, bad AND lucky in equal measure. I guess we'll never know how much of the good was down to luck. I'm sure his heart was in the right place. Not really his fault/intention to end up in sole charge and that he lacked the funds to make it work. I do think both Wilder & Hecky got him out of jail though but I hope history looks back on him kindly. Never a dull moment being a Blade.

What is it about us Blades fans eh? All those years of underinvestment and living of crumbs, we finally try to compete with the big spenders and we all (including me) turn into penny pinching tight wads.

Excellent stuff - well researched, entertaining and very professional.
Take a bow lads.

Excellent reminders of what happened back then, and very diligently researched too. I make some
allowances for PA coming from a very autocratic family leadership, with which he was connected by birth.
I had forgotten his very infrequent visits to the lane, so thank you forthat reminder. I think that Long Time Lurker sums it up best, with the comment ‘good, bad AND lucky’.

Really well balanced pod that, thanks for recording. I’d forgotten that half of it actually happened as the start of it was a Blades following time period that I blank out in my mind wherever possible.

Makes me realise that we’re operating in a different footballing and financial stratosphere currently and shows the importance of a dalliance with the PL every couple of years or so even if the pain of being there eclipses the joy of getting there.

The FA cup discussion got me reflecting on the Tommy Doyle and Ndiaye v Spurs moments and how we’re extremely unlikely to have anything similar under Wilder.

A great listen, because of, rather than despite its length.

I'd really forgotten soem of the shite we signed under Clough and how well both KM and HRH backed him.

Then the Adkins years*........

On balance, I'd say the Prince was a very lucky man and of course we benefitted from that by watching United in the top tier.

* He was there less than a year, it just seemed so much longer.

Brilliant pod, really enjoyed it, highly professional too with Andrew researching the subject.
Really think we have some highly proficient Blades doing fan channels on social media and it's all free.

Regards McCabe saying the "think Liverpool" bit, I clearly remember he did say it in an interview, but it's all about context
In the early days, the media were reporting that a member of the Arab royal family had bought us and they were worth 100's of billions.
Therefore some of our fans were actually questioning if we could be the new Man City, splashing the cash, hovering up some top players.

To calm down the excitement, McCabe said that regards spending we won't be a Man City, we should "think Liverpool"
At the time Liverpool were making common sense purchases and were still selling off their best players when they received a massive bid.
So McCabe was trying to say we had money but we wouldn't be wasting it and if we receive any big bids then our best players could still be sold.
