so apparently Boro are going to pay Villa £6.5m for Archer and all debt concerning Morgan Roger’s will be written off. The only stumbling block will be any payments to Man City owed on the Rogers deal.

Would be an excellent signing.

Him and the other striker would be a serious problem in that division.

Just seen that villa are wanting the Premier league to increase the PSR to the maximum limit of permitted loses for its final season. Wonder even without archer deal they are close to breaching it
Got a bit of a cheek haven't they. Given the stadium sale loophole it's a theme

The chutzpah and entitlement in requesting the limit raised by £30m mid stream or in the final year of PSR..hope it strongly rejected by the member clubs- 14/20 needed to get anything through.

Chelsea and Newcastle, most of the League and indeed a lot of the League were fairly restricted in January. Aston Villa spent a bit.

Then they have the cheek to ask for a £30m rise??

I should add Wolves too sold a third of their squad or a quarter to a third, drastic measures in Summer 2023 and restraint in Summer 2024, losing Lopetegui in part due to that.

I didn't see them asking for limits to rise, or Chelsea, or Newcastle or least pushing it into the media.

Everton and Nottingham Forest wouldn't have failed without it btw although their owners may just have recklessly spent anyway.

Dunno who Aston Villa think they are in general tbh.

So Boro are looking basically to pay £14m for him?

Thats overpriced at anyones reckoning and they’re not taking advantage of Villa’s weak FFP position.
It’s a really bad deal from a Boro perspective.

Not sure Villa can buy him back and then sell him cheap considering the BBC is reporting they HAVE to sell someone for a big free to balance out FFP

I'm pretty sure you're not allowed to buy a player then sell him in the same window 🤔

What particularly impresses me about your “insight” is the sheer volume of clubs that it apparently encompasses. It’d be fairly hard to believe if you just pretended to be itk around us, but when you also add Boro and Villa into the mix, it’s stretches your credibility even thinner.

Boro paying £14M for a player who's failed to make an impact in the PL is a real eye opener.

Is that allowed in the same transfer window ?
Buy Archer back then sell him to Boro or us it another iffy loan a tad like the deal was with us ?

Yeah you can register with two clubs in the same season.
Yes, but that's not the same as buying him and selling him in the same window - which you are not allowed to do.
They wouldn't be able to strike the same deal with Boro as they did with us this season as that is essentially a sale with a buy-back.
Once Villa but him from us they will only be able to loan him out in the same window.
Which is why I said there's a deal to be made if we wish to keep him - I think Villa have screwed themselves in this respect.

Villa owe Boro 12m for Morgan Rodgers it will be a straight swap pretty much but they need to factor in man city

If Boro do what 95% of football clubs, they'd have already loaned against that money. I don't think the bank will accept a Cameron Archer instead of the £12m they'll owe them.

Some of it will be contingent income (ie Rogers needs to make X appearances or score Y goals) but a Championship side will have mortgaged anything certain.

You are allowed to do it, it’s happened many times before.

Maybe, not all clubs do this though. We’ve been down since October so I wouldn’t be surprised if Boro have mentioned Archer to Villa when they sold Rogers in jan. The whole world can see the deal where villa have shafted us.

Fair doooz if true.
Either way I don't think we're keeping him.
As I said elsewhere, he doesn't seem to want to be here and that will force CW's hand.

Do Villa have to buy him back? If I was Villa, I’d do what Liverpool did with Brewster…….“You’re alright United, you keep him”.

Unless they can somehow buy him back and sell him straightaway for a profit, then I can’t see why they’d want him back. But after this season I’m struggling to see how they’d manage to pull that one off.
