Literally, he might have set the agenda of - we want you to look abroad for cheap, young, promising players - but that's where his input would start and end. The actual players will obviously be down to the scouting and coaching departments.

We'd only sign Bamford if we needed a mate for Brewster on the injury table.

Adams would cost twice as much as Akpom.

Where would the 100m come from? He doesn’t have the funds so we’d borrowing against future income?

I don’t see how you justify paying the money for archer and not Akpom. Who’s making that call? When everyone’s fit we have many strikers but nothing in the 10/attacking midfield.

If the report that he's agreed personal terms with Ajax is right, the only way he doesn't end up there is if we match their bid sharpish, no?

I read something about how Akpom was staying at a teammates in Middlesbrough with his family in London last summer as a move may have been happening then.

The short term move literally anywhere in Europe/earth at a drop of a hat lifestyle with kids must be very difficult. Granted money makes it easier but I guess that could get be a factor..then again it's only a one hour flight from London to Amsterdam!

It all comes down to what a player personally values. Great, with Ajax you probably win the Eredivisie and whatever the Dutch equivalent of an FA cup is, and you get to play for an iconic club. Depending on how much they value you as a player, they will probably offer higher wages too.

With us you are more likely to be THE guy, the main man. You also get to play in the Premier League, the most lucrative league in the world and be seen on the world stage week in week out, increasing your chances of being picked up by clubs much much bigger and better than Ajax.
