I always thought of him as a bit of a tit since he played against us in a televised match (can't remember which one, or who he was playing for!) and he was giving it "the big I am" to Clayton Donaldson. The Sky cameras caught him asking CD "who the fuck are you?". He looked about 12 at the time, and I remember thinking cheeky bastard, I hope someone clatters him for that!

He is right footed but has played LCB before. How many left sided CBs are even about and available? There's no O'Connell type players and that's why players like Mings get England call ups.

For example, right footed CBs that play on the left side.. Coady, Maguire and Rodon and will be more.

He can play RWB as well

Very useful addition

Hopefully it's with a view to permanent but he signed a contract with Everton right after his 'next big thing' spell so he may be on wages we'll struggle to match

Saw a report that it is, if we stay up.

Might have been wishful thinking but does seem like a ‘limited’ use of one of the 2 PL loans signings. Admittedly I’ve no idea what they would want for him if they sold him or what wages he’d be on - but they are supposed to be in the shit from a FFP view.

We are going to be short of creativity - I’d have though it would make more sense to aim for someone on loan in the diallo / mcatee / Carney Chukwuemeka mold. Someone where we would stand zero % chance of being able to bring in permanently due to thier potential and the stage of their career even if we could afford it.

Not against the signing but might need to calibrate my expectations accordingly.

Who would have thought Fallowfield would emerge as the new ITKer?

It’s gonna get a bit tasty baby, etc…

Coincidentally posted a mere hour or so after the sun posted this yesterday.

We’ll have to let the Jury decide 😂

If we're loaning him that says to me we're trying to get Doyle permanently

If we do that and the other loan's an attacker, then great
We can have 4 or 5 match day loans so it’s conceivable we could get Doyle on loan and get striker on loan from abroad

Holgate would be a good pickup in a cheap permanent deal. Especially with his Hecky relationship.

He's right footed, but he is relatively quick. I was definitely keen on him as a Bash backup/long term replacement last time we were in the Prem. Could cover LCB, CCB, RCB and RWB if needed.

Always thought it strange it's not worked out for him at Everton long term - but they've always been a mess.

I don't believe we're going to "waste" a Prem loan on him though... Unless we've got advanced and strong plans on all the other transfers we need. I'm not a worrier, but I'd slightly worried if we loaned him.

played under hecky at barnsley so think there could be something in this one can play rcb or rwb so would be handy he might even go straight in to rcb with either anel or egan moving over to lcb

He never played against United when we had Donaldson.

He played against us 4 times, at Right Back in all of them, the away team won the lot with the home teams not scoring a single goal!

04/04/15 - Barnsley 0-2 Blades (Davies & Holt)
23/02/19 - WBA 0-1 Blades (Dowell)
26/12/20 - Blades 0-1 Everton (Sigurdson)
16/05/21 - Everton 0-1 Blades (Jebbison)

He was an unused sub at Goodison Park 21/09/19 when Mina (OG) and Mousset gave us a 2-0 win... another away win and no goal for the home club

Not for me, was a real talent but hasn't kicked on, couldn't get in one of the worst sides in the division

And if Sean dyche doesn't fancy him? The king of building teams from back to front, I think we need to use our loans better

That being said if we could get him anywhere near back to his level of a few years ago, he'd be fantastic for us, but we can't afford IF loans
He did well under Ancelloti and he knows his football.
A loan with a view to buy at a realistic price if we stay up is a good option.
Hecki knows him well so if he wants him that's good enough for me.

No we dont
Genuinely intrigued to know why you don't think we do?

Either you think we have enough in Robinson / RND or you're happy with a right footer in that positon. For me I always think we've struggled using the wide centre backs as an attacking threat when they're not playing on the side of their favoured foot.

Bloody hell, you are right!
It must've been this game, and I must've been watching it for some bizarre reason, and I must've remembered the incident as CD was once a Blade :)
Incidentally, I notice they both got booked on 45+1 so maybe that's when they had the tangle.....

Since Wilder left we haven't used either LCB or RCB as an attacking threat in the same way.

Granted Anel gets forward occasionally, but its not the centre piece of our attacking threat as it was previously. PH using players either side of centre forward has negated this and changed our build up play slightly.

Working with the restraints we have, the tactics, then I think this signing is a no-brainer (I'd rather it be permanent in all honesty) - he has pace, play anywhere in defence, has played LCB, prem experience, right age, worked with PH. Ticks alot of boxes. To dismiss because he's not left footed is being a bit naive.

We could a lot worse than signing Sam Reed, lots of potential. He's come through Non League rather than an Academy, very driven lad. Either about to or recently signed for our neighbours

Brighouse to Prem is quite a step-up even if Utd are in need of another LWB.

Didn't the massive take a look at him recently?

I used to play with his dad - great bloke and a very good player! Sam looks as though he's going to be an ever better player (though possibly not Prem level quite yet!) 😀

Under Wilder I would have agreed that we need the LCB to be left-footed. However, under Hecky we don't see the CBs overlapping as much, and i guess we'll see even less of it in the PL.

If the player is good enough, he's good enough.

It's strange with the left side of football teams, people think they HAVE to be left footed.
In a standard 4-4-2 formation, both CMs and both CFs could very easily be right-footed and nobody would question it.

If a team lined-up with 2x Left-Footed CMs and 2x left-footed CFs, people would question the insanity. What's the difference??

Also - why do left-footed free-kick takers have a "wand of a left foot"? Not a term used on right-footed players.

Away team won, no goal for home team - Mason Holgate is part of the illuminati!!!

Maybe we have a sale lined up for Anel?

Or maybe PH is just contingency planning - 3 from Holgate/Coast/Egan to cover 2 positions sounds like the minimum requirement to me. Sadly, Bash is unlikely to be more than emergency cover next season.
