Not good enough in my opinion also.

Wolves decided in the Championship after returning on loan from us he wasn’t good enough for their midfield. So converted him as a specialist sweeper and ball player in the middle of their back 3.
Isn’t a great defender or midfielder at this level, hoping we spend the money elsewhere.

Just pulling your leg gently. By the way why am I a new member- been on here over 15 years!
Foxy will know - I'd guess it's based on post count. You can update it in your profile, go to Account Details (click on your avatar/title at the top to get the dropdown) and there's a field for Custom Title.

We need someone to cover when Anel suspended for picking up bookings, Egan for picking up red cards for pulling players down when beaten for pace and for JLT when suspended for GBH.
I love Cody’s attitude and character, hadn’t been picked for Everton for 11 games until last day of the season and he was immense even though he had to have known Everton were not going to keep him.
It is all about the overall cost - fee and wages To me a total of up to £7m would be ok if that was a three year contract. If we are relegated next season we might lose Anel anyway
GBH!!! Made me laugh a lot that

Considering the side is likely to lose several of the 'older heads' and with it a lot of experience, I'm surprised at how much resistance their is to the possibility of Coady rejoining. An established and experienced model pro at Prem level and one who knows, understands and likes the club. He's also only 30 - not the 35+ as some make out as though he's almost done.

It is when our strongest position is probably CB and we hav eonly 20 mill apparently to spend

Youre right that doesnt make him a bad player but it shows he isnt a good as the media or his mouth likes to suggest

If he didnt talk well and shout on the pitch theres absolouteley no chance he would have made the england squad ever IMO
Spoken like someone who hasn't watched football

Genuinely on his day in the Prem he is supremely talented. Was rightfully called up for England and I think had he stayed at Wolves and played he would be looking at a move to a bigger team.

Would genuinely like to hear a serious alternative from yourself if you can, and by serious I don't mean "Ampadu" because you're 100% saying that as a wind-up

I love Coady as a player and I think he's got years left in him at PL level. However! We all know his best position is centre back, almost certainly that's where he'll play if he joins, that would mean Egan is either backup or moves to LCB. I just can't see Egan playing as backup because he's our captain and has done so well for us since he signed and although Coady may be an upgrade (not sure though as Egan is still very good) I just think it would be a waste to have either on the bench, granted there may be injuries but Egan has hardly missed a game since he signed.

So Egan at LCB? He's not left footed and whilst the overlapping centre backs might not quite be as prominent as under Wilder we still very much play that way, particularly Anel. I just can't see Egan playing there especially considering Hecky likes to have left footers on the left side as a rule. I can't see Coady playing centre mid either, he hasn't for years now, maybe if he joins he will. Maybe we could play Coady at the bottom of the diamond and have two centre mids such as Berge and Doyle in front of him but not so sure we'd do that.

The other factor is that the deal could well be a loan deal with a view to buy like what Everton just had. I think we may need loans for positions we're less strong in, centre half is one of our strongest positions with Egan. For the money for Coady, lets say £2m loan fee we could sign Anderson from Barnsley, maybe Anderson might cost as much as £4m but we'll have a centre back to compete with Egan and someone who is our asset for the next five years. So it's a tough one for me with Coady. Ultimately though we know if Hecky wants him then it's because he knows how to use Coady and it could be just too good a player to not sign especially with his experience. Without knowing where Hecky would use Coady with Egan I would favour Anderson or someone similar age/price range. I would like Kitching from Barnsley also!

Some good points B4 but the main one you missed is the respective abilties of the players in question. IMHO Coady is light years ahead of the Barnsley pair and is proven at both Prem and International level - they were both playing in L1 last season!

If he does sign (and I'm certainly not convinced he will), where he'll play may well be dependent on how strong he is on his left side. He is comfortable on the ball and is mobile enough to play RCB or LCB. However if he'd struggle to play left side (with Anel already having made RCB his own and being nowhere as effective on the left), it would be a decision between him and Egan, who plays LCB in a 4 for ROI, and would be more solid but would be less able to get forward. At least it would mean that Robison doesn't play, who would be a liability at Prem level.

I would much rather resign Ampadu than Coady

There’s a reason Coady isn’t wanted by wolves/Everton both bottom half Prem teams

Don’t talk about him getting in the England squad he got there because he shouts a lot much like Jordan Henderson

We should not be paying big wages & fees on 30+ year olds with no resaleable value

Sign Ampadu Bettie listen to fallowfield
Ampadu is rubbish and was rubbish for us.

Take comments from the club ,interpret them.in the most negative way humanly possible then post twenty times a day in every thread as if your interpretation is fact

He doesn't fit the profile of what the club has stated they're looking for.
Why wouldn't I respond to say as much?

The only way I could see this happening is if we for some reason (god forbid) decide to let Anel or Egan go in the summer.

Coady would be ideal in the middle of the three or on the right, but you're then pushing out one of our most consistent performers over the course of the last season.

I get that it's always great to have healthy competition for places, but if we're looking at a CB, we need to prioritise the left side for me and that wont be cheap. If this 20 mil budget is to be believed, I'd rather not spend a quarter of it plus wages on a position we don't need to fill.

It qualifies my opinion as more important than yourS NateDogg Double g
Ya see, I'm trying to start a normal conversation because I'm interested. Is it because you need it for your job? You keep mentioning it so I thought you might like to tell us more.

Im new to posting on here but I notice you get a lot of stick, which I'm not really a fan of because you're as entitled to your opinion as much as anyone else but you do bring a lot of it on yourself with your slightly arrogant attitude.

I don't particularly fancy getting Ampadu back but I'm happy to let you try to convince me. I just think if you want to keep telling everyone else they are wrong 'because you have a European Scouting Badge' the least you can do is explain why you got it. Surely it's not just to argue with people on here?

People might value your opinion slightly higher then, rather than treating you like some kind of parody.

The point about needing cover for Anel is a good one

I'm sure he'll insist on missing at least 10 games

And for what it's worth I'd prefer Ampadu over Coady as a permanent signing. It's funny how so many seem to see him as some sort of joke player, but it won't be the case much longer

If he's so bad

Get out. He's played nearly 300 games for wolves and 10 games as a defender for England. He might not be the long term answer but for probably less than he's be touted to Everton, who else is available with that experience an quality. Let's not forget, Jags and Bash started as midfielders and pulled up no trees before moving backwards.

Is he the best defender in the country-no
Is he capable of doing a job and affordable-yes

I understand your thought process, but for £4m and about £20k per week who would you suggest?

A defender who’s left footed would be a start

No it's literally what the Prince has come out and said. It's not twisting anything 🤷‍♂️ more established names will likely be loans with fees spent on young players who are willing to potentially be a top championship players next year. No chance Coady will be willing to risk it with us in the championship

It's just common sense.

I respect your right to free speech and I've even stood up for you on this platform, but this is just a big fat fucking lie and you need to be called out on it.

So consider yourself called out.

cant understand the negativity on here regarding coady if we can afford him get him in for a start hes better than egan and robinson and for me would go straight in to our back 3 all these posters saying we can get better where we aint got the money to bring anybody better in

He didn't join us on loan from Wolves mate. He joined us on loan from Liverpool. Was then loaned out to Hudderfield....I think 🤔
