It is certainly not a bad win percentage, particularly as it is over a fairly lengthy period - almost 250 games.

It's not as good as Wilder's but not much difference in terms of last couple of clubs before us.

He's not who I'd want but I think the harsh reaction towards it is ridiculous.

How you know that?
To be fair, it’s just from the Twattersphere. I can’t find any serious backing for it, having just looked.

And I really hope I’m wrong, as if there was no lead on to Howe, this would be the mother of all fuck ups of manager swaps.

To be honest he's not someone that I'd even thought about. However, I agree with you about his record. It's certainly not a bad record.

Sven Goran Erikkson has just been in for a Toblerone and a can of fanta

My Lincoln supporting mate made reference to it, and blamed us for them losing at home to Rochdale.

However, when Wilder was in charge he ran a tight ship, and apart from Richard Cadette hardly anyone on here was ITK (at least in real time). With a Saudi Arabian Prince in charge along with his son, I'd have thought the ship just got tighter still. Add to this the fact we have an interim manager to the end of the season, so the club have reached a short term decision, and we may as well close the rumour mill down until almost the end of the season for managers and players alike.

Going to be an interesting summer though.

If we got Appleton it shows the ambition of the club

TBH - if the club is targeting a young (ish), English, up & coming manager, Appleton would be near the top of the list (along with Cooper) - he did a very good job at OUFC, resulting in him being poached to become #2 at Leicester (on £500k/year) and has also done a very good job at Lincoln. However, going to a club just relegated from the Prem with expectations to be challenging for an immediate is a big step-up.

Personally, given the current circumstances, I feel the club need to make a statement of ambition with the appointment of CW's successor. It will obviously be far more difficult to recruit as a Champ club rather than a Prem one but someone with the profile of someone like Benitez, might be what's required to appease large sections of the fanbase. If that, as would probably be expected, prove impossible, then I'd be minded to go for Gerrard with the acceptance that barring a disastrous reign, Utd would be a stepping stone for him to eventually become Liverpool's next coach.

He’s a poor mans wilder - similar career / clubs however with literally ZERO tangible success!

it’s a no from me!

that said he’s picked some shitty chairman to work for....

You really think we have the clover to go for Benitez? Just can’t see it happening. Likewise Gerrard, it’s a sideways step for him. Someone will give him a PL job after a few more seasons at Rangers.

No, I think Benitez is well beyond Utd tbh unless they were going to offer him mega $$$, which they won't. Gerrard I think could be more likely. He's had a successful start at Rangers but has already reached the ceiling with them - they simply don't have the clout to make a dent in Europe. If given assurances about budget, I could see Utd appealing to him, to showcase his talents and act as a stepping stone to his ultimate job. I could certainly imagine his contacts at Liverpool facilitating some kind loans - Harvey Elliott, Neco Williams, van den Berg etc. would all improve Utd's squad significantly.

Regardless of the actual name, my point was more a tactical one for the Board. Appointing a proven, high profile 'name' may be a good start to getting supporters back on board and of course may also help with the corporate side.

That pig saying they like to use against us, somat about always following in their shadow, could actually have a bit of truth in it if we are now in this sort of market for a manager

Thing is, when looking around for suitable candidates, having been spoilt somewhat over the last few years, it’s difficult to put a positive spin on anyone that might be available. This season apart, we’ve been well and truly spoilt.

We’ve had our day in the sun it seems, back to oblivion for the next 10 years

Didn't Oxford fans used to think he was better than Wilder?
Don't know enough about Wilders situation on leaving yous - But he left us (Ox) as felt board wearnt backing him and left us in the lurch mid promotion push. Appleton come in and gave us our best years but was very well backed. seeing Mixed reviews on the CW feeling on here & twitter, I guess the fairy tale was always going to come to an end.
