Colours & colour blindness

Not a fan of the pink shirt but for this season at least it's staying put, I like the green one but cannot come to get my head & heart around the home shirt. I am a believer in red & white stirpes front & back and, I wish you could buy a shirt minus all the adverts like they used to be in days gone by.

Really....? We wore the green at Liverpool, Arsenal & Southampton.....my eyes must be different to yours, pink is a lot closer to red than green....
There’s nowt wrong with your eyes....Green has always been opposite to red on the colour spectrum whilst pink is very closely related to red.

Best player in the Best Pink Kit. Non of that Madrid shite.

One light, one dark - it’s not that fucking difficult. If you can’t tell the difference on a black and white tv (not that you’ll find one of those!) then they won’t be easily differentiated between for those with defective colour vision.

If the figures are correct then it’s approx 1/12 that struggle. I don’t see that it’s ok to exclude that many fans from what’s a relatively easy thing to sort. To put that into context it’s 2,500 of our average home gate that would be struggling with a red v green scenario. You certainly wouldn’t make it so difficult for other disadvantaged groups when there’s a reasonable adjustment to hand - I don’t know how clubs get away with it every year.

As a colourblind person (and therefore, a tireless campaigner for the oppressed) I had no trouble seeing the contrast at all.
The shirts look grayish and I have no idea what the shorts are.

Another terrible kit choice - light pink against light blue. FFS.

What on earth is wrong with the home kit against light blue???
That was my first thought when I saw we were playing in pink again. I am not colour blind but it was fairly obvious to me that both would be a similar light grey.
Being as the idea of away colours is to avoid a clash, a) why are they worn when there is no clash and b) why is a colour blindness clash not a part of the consideration? It's a bit bizarre in this day and age, considering the efforts that are made generally to be inclusive.
I think there needs to be a concerted effort to raise awareness with the clubs and football authorities. It surely can't be difficult to sort.

In five minutes I could send a list for the ENTIRE SEASON of kits we shouldn’t wear against other teams. Problem solved.

I have offered to do this but the club just aren’t interested.
Is today one where the green kit would have worked?
It does seem pretty obvious even to me, a non colourblind person, that these two kits are both a light shade.

Green would a lot better for me, but not necessarily for everyone. I don’t see why the home kit wouldn’t work. Different colour AND pattern.

This shade of pink doesn’t clash with red at all. I thought it would, but I was wrong. Even Deadbat moaned about it slightly less than he did his yellow vs green goalie kit rant. So given the old red/green colourblindness issue, I’d say you’re better off catering to people with a real visual problem than people with homophobic eyes.

As an aside, I think the pink shirt is brilliant, even the shade of shorts is good and something a bit different. If we’d had a good season (and with fans in grounds), it could have been one of our most fondly remembered kits. Mind you, if we pull off the most unlikely escape in sporting history with some good away performances, it could yet be iconic.

Yes, light v dark. It’s really that simple.

Tbf, even the home shirt would’ve been better.

Yesterday wasn’t too bad for me but it was the worst option of the 3 shirts to wear.

Thought the colours were fine yesterday. Could tell them apart easily...no issue distinguishing grey and blue at all.

Too many moaning about kit clashes these days. Players can tell the difference by the faces and cologne they wear. Gerron wi it.

I knew that'd rattle some cages. Firstly, to counter your first point, do you really want me to list the games where we've played in pink and lost? Secondly, if you really believe that pink is not associated with femininity in any way, shape or form, you've created your own little PC bubble that exists outside reality.
Oh you’re so edgy in your non-PC bubble.

Amazing how different colours affect different people, I was fine with yesterday’s colours, Actually think that the pink is better than our home shirt as it’s a practically a white shirt.

Speaking of which, the Adkins season when we had the white shirt, we were shite, think it’s a theme.

Generally I’ve not struggled as much with the pink as I did with the green v red

Here is the club’s response to my question on the bad combination of colours across our three kits...

“With regards to the choice of the kits for the 20/21 season, upon the designs being produced by Adidas, these are then sent to the Premier League who will provide approval on the design. Upon receiving approval from the Premier League, the kit is then produced and worn as required throughout the remainder of the season. Unfortunately, at the time of design and approval, concerns regarding the colour of the kits were not raised by the Premier League. As noted, where Clubs come to have kits which are similar (such as both teams sporting red and white stripes), then an alternate kit must be selected.

We are now aware of the difficulties that may be experienced from certain colour combinations, and having received such feedback will ensure that this is reflected upon ahead of the kit selection for 21/22 season.”
So...

I replied to this email during the game against Man City basically pointing out that they repeatedly make the same mistake - despite there being no need whatsoever - and this is the response I got...

“We fully appreciate and have taken on board the feedback put forth within your initial email following the Southampton v SUFC fixture on 13th December 2020, and have responded proactively in our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Manager contacting a representative from the organisation Colour Blind Awareness to set up a meeting and discuss what we can do as a Club to continue to improve our accessibility; the meeting is scheduled to take place this week.

We plan to continue to work with Colour Blind Awareness moving forward regarding various features of the Club. As previously noted, we really value any feedback which can assist our Club in continuing our efforts to ensure that the Club is one which is inclusive.”

So that’s a start. Nothing happens anywhere these days without meetings.

I still think though that all it really takes is to ask a couple of colour blind fans at the start of each season which kit clashes to avoid and that is the problem solved.

Progress though!

Well done fella! Thats a good start, perhaps that will be the outcome, ask colour blind folk what they can and can't see on TV...

If the Army and airforces were able to use Colour Blind folks in WW1 and Vietnam to spot camoflague in amongst the jungle, i am sure that Clubs, the prem, the EFL and TV broadcasters can try to use colour blind people to check kit clashes

This is what I am going to send the club regarding away kit choices for the remainder of the season...

A lot of the problem here seems to be the home kit having a white back, rather than colour blindness issues. Maybe that makes a good case for stripes on both sides, which we'd all prefer anyway.
