Please don't take this as antagonism as you have always been decent when posting on here.
Not at all, mate.
I don't blame you for still boiling.
What's the most important thing in a football match? The only thing that really counts? Goals.
If 'they' can't get those right, why are any of us bothering?
TWO forms of tech to help them & they STILL fuck it up.
I suspect the bastard thing wasn't switched on.

I think its his first full game, JOC has been doing it 4 years-ish, and JOC was far fuckin worse that Robinson in his first few games

Give him a little slack, probably nervous as fuck all game, lets see after a few more games

It wasn't a criticism of him, just a fact that the time he may require, may put us out of the Europe picture. I also think Sander Berge needs some time and I'm convinced he will be a great player for us in the near future.

Technology cannot be 100% but if it was not turned on or someone knew during the game that there was an error than that is different. The system constantly pings the operator to show that is is working, I am guessing they thought 'oh shit, its not working, dare I stop the match, or do I wing it? Whatever the events, the only compensation that is not questionable is the loss of prize money for any drop in position at the end of the season. By the same argument around what effect the goal would have had on Villa or us, the same has to be said for a position in Europe.
I feel robbed but the Hawk-eye lawyers will already have been all over this and have calculated the loss to us and will no doubt make a good will payment to our chosen charity. The bastards.

We all know nothing will change what happened, just be more weasel words.

I’d like to know which ref was in charge at Stockley Park and if he could explain why these “unique set of circumstances” stopped him from acting on what his fucking eyes showed him.

The result has to stand for obvious reasons but let’s hold to account anyone responsible for this shambles.

Not having a go at you or anyone else here, but why do so many assume that the result has to stand and nothing can be done?

Surely the Uzbekistan Bahrain game from 2005 shows otherwise?

And this is an equally if not worse situation.

Also find the attitude of being good sports commendable from some but don't really understand it, I want other fans to hate our club.

No successful club is ever liked. Let's not be too nice.

* In addition Ireland appealed over the Henry handball incident. Granted they didn't win but FIFA did give a payout...

I think Stevens may be used as LWB in some games as he is aware of the requirement of the role.

A replay, or two more points?

I’m far from being a good sport, still angry and gutted but managed not to wet myself.

I want to see the Hawkeye coverage and hear Oliver and the gormless twat at Stockley Park explain what’s exactly happened and to explain the rule about var being used for incidents. Not Mike Riley dodging questions.

The only compo could be is the positional monies, to give us what we’d have got with two extra points. Highly unlikely though. The PL will be hoping we flounder and don’t now just fall short. Now there’s a conspiracy to theorise over.......

Seriously?? Legal action?? We would get laughed out of court, we would say we were robbed, at best the outcome would be match replayed, and the chances of that are about 1 percent, and then I expect we would lose said rearranged match

And finish 9th on goal difference

We had a decision go against us, just as we have had plenty go for us

It shouldn't have happened, but it has, we take the point and move on to Saudi United

Agreed.

Also, if the goal had been awarded the game could have taken a completely different course. We may have gone on to win comfortably, but on the other hand it may have galvanized Villa (who were actually better than us for the majority of that game). There is no way of knowing whether or not they might have upped their game further and turned it around.

When a mistake like that is made you cannot simply just add one goal to our scoreline and say with certainty that that would have been the outcome. It's not as simple as that.

As far as Sheffield United are concerned it is called "Shit Happens".....

Hawkeye have some serious explaining to do and should be put under considerable pressure to answer the following;

  1. Can they categorically confirm and evidence that the system was working as it should during the first half, (at the beginning of the second half the Sky commentator said, "we are assured it is now working" which inferres it wasn't.
  2. Can they categorically confirm and evidence Michael Olivers watch was switched on and working correctly during the first half
  3. Why did Michael Oliver allegedly get a "goal" signal sent to him during half time, was this as either the Hawk-eye system or his watch were switched back on?
  4. Why have there been no pictures or graphics at all...., is it because it wasn't switched on?
  5. How can the reason for the goal not being given be due to "occlusion" by players and the post when Hawkeye technology boasts it clearly has the ability to remove all said occlusions.
In my opinion unless Hawkeye can answer and evidence the above 5 points satisfactorily then they have been professionally negligent and just like any other company that has been professionally negligent they can be sued. If we miss out on European Football due to those 2 points dropped then we have a right to consider legal action.

Erm, have a replay from 43 minutes with us 1-0 up?

There have been plenty of examples of that happening:

Sheffield United are better than that.
The result is unlikely to change, and based on relative performances, a point for us was a decent result.
The subject of GLT, Var and referees decisions needs to be the subject of a PL inquiry, in order to prevent this happening again. The system systems failed. The clubs did not.
Clubs might want to challenge the system, but the result will still stand. The legal recourse may be possible, but to what end?
We’ve seen the unholy mess caused by Kev and co going down that route.
Let the PL investigate, and deal with any shortcomings. The clubs were the subject of a systems failure, not the cause of it.
Move on and let our football do the talking. Taking this to court is petty and small minded. We are a proper football club first and foremost, not a business enterprise in this case.

Any legal action would go down in certain circles - Porktalk, Martin Samuel etc. - as the usual 'whiny Sheffield United', 'bad losers' blah, blah. But some good could come out of this (but won't).

We were led to believe that goal-line technology was infallible - a black and white, binary situation where there would be nothing to dispute. Move on folks, nothing to see here.

Now we know it can be fiddled - and I don't think that's too strong a word. If the 'goal' was in Villa's favour and 6/7/8 cameras 'failed' to spot it, the ref's watch 'failed' to pick it up etc. we all know the ref would have dislocated his shoulder in pointing to the centre spot.

So a multi-million pound system has been proved unreliable. Let's review it or maybe scrap it. After all, glt only occurs in an infinitasimal number of cases throughout a season.

What is known to be unreliable, costs certain teams points and leads to more discussion on MoTD than the actual football is VAR. There are no hiding places left now. Scrap it from the start of next season so every team really does start on a level playing field.

But I bet they won't...

I’m not wanting the evidence for a court case which for me is a no no, just so we can have an honest explanation for it all. If someone comes out of it looking like a twat so be it. The PL need to be whiter than white over this even if someone has to be thrown under a bus.

The only people who may consider legal action are the teams at the bottom come the end of the year if Villa stay up on GD or by a point. Now if that could just be West Ham, I would be very, very happy

I've got a feeling we havent heard the end of this. If Villa dont get relegated by 1 point and say it causes West Ham or Bournemouth or Brighton to go down there will be uproar in their camp/fans. Just look how vocal they were about trying to get the PL scrapped !

How about we refuse to play any more games, citing health concerns or what ever.

Then they would take notice of little old gutsy Sheffield United.

I don't for one minute think we should look at legal action irrespective of how this ultimately affects us. It would be embarrassing imho.

However, should Villa stay up by a point at the expense of someone like West Ham, it might be Interesting to see what occurs.

Again I ask, why should we care about whether it is embarrassing or not?

If you get mugged you don't refuse to go to the police out of embarrassment.... do you?

Teams have suffered due to human error every week of every year.

Until clear evidence comes to light of deliberate corruption or wilful negligence with intent, then all we have is human error to go at.

Yes it's bizarre that VAR didn't intervene but you can't go around threatening legal action against officials without evidence of something sinister.
