LEGAL ACTION MUST BE TAKEN NOW

Bit tinpot taking legal action.

It'd be nice, just once, if the powers that be would see the wrongness of what's gone on and justice would be swiftly delivered.

Just seems like once again Sheffield United will have to wipe their chin and walk away.

If the same thing had happened to Villa that game, in their position, I bet they'd be making some phonecalls this evening.

I don’t think we should go down the legal route, but we’ve got to give the Premier League and Hawkeye a round of fucks. An apology simply isn’t good enough.

I can accept certain mistakes and refs having different opinions on decisions to my own, but it’s totally unacceptable for Hawkeye to fail and then VAR to not correct the error. Someone has to be held accountable for this, it’s a mistake which could cost us tens of millions.

I agree entirely. The scale of failure is unfathomable:

The Hawkeye technology failure (they have admitted this).

Oliver's decision to not consult the pitchside monitors.

VAR's decision to abrogate their duty to monitor the goal (they have admitted this).

The failure to rectify this at half time.

United should co opt as many interested parties as possible in a class action. Right now - it would look like rank opportunism at the season's end.

If they couldnt be bothered to go to VAR they are not going to take any notice of legal action :)

Now if it was Man U or Liverpool would be a different matter. Bet they would have got their 2 points !

"There is precedent for the invalidation of such results. In 2005, the bureau of the Fifa World Cup organising committee reached a decision to invalidate the result of a World Cup qualification match between Uzbekistan and Bahrain on the basis of a 'technical error by the referee of the match''. BBC

Does anyone here know the regulations for the Premier League? It seems like the above was specific to the 2006 World Cup.

Can we take it to FIFA? Before anyone laughs, similar to my previous thread I don't want us to let this go and be too nice and polite about it. We have waited years to be in with a shout of European football, I hope put and keep pressure on whoever necessary to get a satisfactory outcome.
This is not a matter of subjective interpretation of technology which was working properly. There is always going to be controversy about marginal “toenail” decisions - you win some, you lose some.

In today’s case the technology was not working when it should have been. Someone has not done their job properly. This negligence could cause financial damage not only to us but also to all the clubs alongside Villa which are threatened with relegation.

More work for the lawyers methinks.

Could you imagine Wimbledon starting without Hawkeye, no they would not start! Did the company tell the Premier League it wasn’t working? where Sheff U and Villa told? that’s not even going into why VAR did not check?

Seriously?? Legal action?? We would get laughed out of court, we would say we were robbed, at best the outcome would be match replayed, and the chances of that are about 1 percent, and then I expect we would lose said rearranged match

And finish 9th on goal difference

We had a decision go against us, just as we have had plenty go for us

It shouldn't have happened, but it has, we take the point and move on to Saudi United

If you paid a security company to operate cctv and alarms on your premises and someone at the company forgot to turn them on whilst you were being burgled, would you be laughed out of court if you sued them ?

As much as I think Sean Bean, Uncle Kev and a few fans turning up in London to protest West Ham was embarrassing, I think there’s genuine grounds for taking this further.

We’ve been told as fans that Goal Line Technology is unquestionable. It’s always correct, no matter what.

What if we miss out on Europe due to two points? What if Villa stay up by one point? Where is the integrity of the game if something as black and white as a ball crossing a line or not can’t be 100% correct, given the amount of technology we’ve allowed into the game to ensure we arrive at the correct decision?

If there is any sense and morality we will be awarded 3 points for the game.

If not the whole system falls down.

The thing is it is impossible to prove the decision stopped us from winning the game, yes we were wronged but no amount of legal action will change the result, if that goal was given we could have lost 5-1 who. Knows, be nice if we just got our heads down, keep doing what we're doing, and still finish in Europe even with shite like this

You cannot award points for something that happened, but was not given, in the middle of a match.

Surely! Surely?

Come on, I can't be the only person who thinks this? I know people are emotional, but by God surely the system falls down if points are handed out at the end of a match in defiance of the final score, rather than the other way around?

We were fucked over, it happens. But people want to tear down the entire fabric of established football reality to get us two more points? In the words of Major Clipton, 'Madness...madness'.

The problem is you couldn't prove in court that we would have won 1-0 if that goal is given

To be honest, at this point I can’t see it happening, there’s no precedent for it. We’re not one of your traditional glamorous Top 6 teams, so this will get swept under the rug.

Only way we’ll get anything close to justice is if Dean Smith pulls a Wenger and offers a replay, which again won’t happen.

But I do think we have an obligation to push this further, with the aim of rule changes that VAR can overrule Hawkeye. As football fans we need to ensure the fair and correct decision is arrived at in all football games.

Embarrassing?

There has never been a precedent set for anything until someone makes one.

I didnt mean with var, I just meant in general, sometimes stuff goes for you sometimes against, we only ever remember the times it goes against us though
Peschisolido was offside against Crystal Palace in 02/03.
Danny Webber was offside at Watford in 06/07.
Balloon-gate.

Really struggling to think of anything else in the last 20 years. Coventry probably had the ball over the line in 15/16 but we don’t know for sure.

We’ve had more go against us this season alone, with the most technology available that we’ve ever had.

The balloons was 'lucky' but perfectly legal. And it was City's fault anyway.

One the other hand, Carruthers and Fleck have favoured us with some choice dives for penalties in recent years.

Agree with you.

I am as livid as anyone, but calling for legal action or 'give us 3 points' is ludicrous. If we'd been given the goal, Villa's subs, tactics and the whole flow of the game would have changed, you can't reinvent history.

What's the end game of this lawsuit idea? We get to replay a game where we could come away with a worse result, at a time where fixtures are coming thick and fast while injuries are more likely to occur?

Might want to sleep on this one and see what information comes out in the morning.

No I agree with you, I don’t want us to go to court to overturn the decision of a football game.

My point is that we were told Hawkeye was correct, no matter what, and VAR cannot overrule it.

Tonight proved that Hawkeye can be wrong, and us being us, it’ll get swept under the carpet. We owe it to the integrity of football to not keep quiet, to kick up a massive fuss, and make sure the rules are changed so this kind of event doesn’t happen again

Thousands of legal cases Sean Thornton would tell you are based on compensation based on hypothetical.

Middlesborough had to pay millions in compensation when one of their youth players injured an opponent based on potential.

This is purely my opinion.

The world is changing right now, equality, fairness and consistency being the hot topic. I agree with all that, life should be fair to all.

So when a system is introduced in football that is proclaimed to be 100% fair fails there should be justice to the victim.

Fair is fair across all spectrums or it doesn't work.
