New training ground.

I doubt you'd get a GB&I bid. Possibly a UK bid but more likely England and Wales. Russia 2018 used 16 stadia and the plan is to move from 32 to 48 teams from 2026 onwards so I'd say 16 is a minimum.. I've based the below on the failed bid for the 2018 tournament.

London:
Wembley
The Taxpayers' Olympic Bowl
White Hart Lane

Wales:
Millennium Stadium

South West
Ashton Gate
Plymouth's Home Park

South East
Amex

Midlands:
Villa Park
City Ground
MK Dons

North West
Anfield
Old Trafford
Etihad

Yorkshire/North East
St James' Park
Elland Road
Sheffield x1

A Sheffield ground would be in the bid for the "birthplace of football" story alone. We all know it will be Hillsborough despite overwhelming evidence that it should be the Lane.

I really do think they’d include hampden and croke park but either way we’ve got better exsisting stadia than Qatar[/QUOTE]

There has recently been reports in the press that a World Cup bid would cone from North England.....with Bramall Lane the worlds oldest stadium, specifically mentioned.

Makes a lot of sense this, much better location too. remember being confused as to peoples affinity with Shirecliffe. when Prince won the court case there were people complaining about him selling off the training ground and all I could think was, So?
Exactly, it’s at “our” end of the city, the same end as abbeydale, ball inn and Warminster road training grounds. I know Shirecliffe has produced some talent over the years but to carry on doing plus attracting top talent then I think we need to have something state of the art. It’s the academy and first team players place of work (if you can call it work) so we need to tempt players in.

And the majority went ape shit when the Prince mentioned selling Shirecliffe, when this is what he meant all along! And CW has repeatedly mentioned leaving a legacy- this would be his

Nawty boys from Newfield Gray, Hurlfield always over rated, while playing local football we had training twice a week with two sports teachers, Martin was one the other was Pete Radford who played for Norton Woodseats, I ended up playing football and cricket with him some years later, may have been there when you attended?
Newfield lad eh BB? 👏 I was living in Gleadless back then and had to option of moving to the new Gleadless Valley school when it opened but I’d sort of settled at Hurlfield by then so despite the bus ride I stayed there.

I think I do remember Pete Radford. Hurlfield pushed rugby or cricket in my time, we had the beg the teachers for a game of football. The guy who took me most of my first 3 years was Bill Machin, a real swine and he hated football so we never played it even though there was a school team. A guy called Jack Dowswell arrived when I was in my 4th year who was an ex semi-pro and he helped introduced more football to the curriculum for all classes. It was a bit late for me although I did eventually play a few games for the school team in the 5th year. It wasn’t hard to get a game mind, O levels had only just been introduced so only about 80 lads stayed on. I’d have got a game with a wooden leg. 😉

Out if interest I got into boxing in my 5th year and after I left school used to train up at Lol’s gym on the Arbourthorne. Some really good boxers there...unfortunately I wasn’t one of them. 😂

Any world cup bid won't involve either of us now anyway, as it'll be a GB or even more likely GB&I bid.
If you look at the most recent World cups you're looking at 12-13 stadia max so there will not be room for a Sheffield location.
Even if Yorkshire was an area where they wanted a base, you could safely assume Elland Road would be far ahead of ourselves.
Why on earth would you say Elland Road would be far in front of us?

I've lived by the aerodrome for 20 years and there have been various developers look at the site for housing etc over that time. The latest application was a few years ago when an environmental company applied to build a bio-power plant which got rejected due to residential lash back, but was built at Blackburn Meadows. The main reason for non development of this Sheffield City Council site (not RAF) is the cost of clearing the site of the asbestos in the old hangers, buildings and contaminated land. Last Saturday morning the site was visited by an entourage from SUFC with plans in hand, including the prince in 2 very nice Range Rovers and a top notch Mercedes Mini bus, which were parked round the corner from me about 9am. Another Blade pal of mine posted a photo on Twitter as they came back from visiting the site where the current football pitches are off Bowman Drive, where mainly under 18's 16's etc play on them but only on Sundays. Would be fantastic for this site to be put to good use at last and is a far cry from Shirecliffe which is too close to the 'dark side'.. having checked the Sheff Council planning dept site, there is currently no application submitted as yet.. If I see owt else I'll keep you posted.

Largest stadium especially with their plans to expand it to 50,000 if promoted, why would you pick a 32,000 ground when the larger ground is in a satisfactory state of repair. What does BL have over it if you are choosing it as a neutral who is only putting on the best tournament to the most fans?

There's always a few 'smaller' regional stadia. Nobody wants to spoil the illusion by having 20,000 empty seats as a backdrop to Morocco v Senegal.

In a world cup of 60-90,000 stadia, 50,000 will be the smaller regional stadia. It will also sell out as there won't be that many alternate games in the region if you want to enjoy a World Cup match. Personally I don't really care about us holding a world cup match which is good for me as I can't see it happening.
Unless someone throws a hell of a lot of money at the Sty, which they won't, it'll not be there, but it won't be in S2 either, unless we've a 50,000 ground by then, which is also doubtful.

Imagine if they trained in Herdings Park?

"Any injury worries ahead of Saturday's game Chris?"

"Yes, Flecky picked up an injury in training. He slipped on a dog-egg, banged his head on a house brick and got a syringe in his arse"
Think Mousset would have to leave his Lambo at home. More likely to see a unicorn than a Lamborghini in Herdings Park

Stadia for a WC aren’t judged on their current state.....they are judged on what they can become....designed to exact specifications requested by FIFA.
So our current 32K capacity is irrelevant. Leeds satisfactory state of repair is also irrelevant.

Usually the tournament leaves behind a legacy....so they tend to choose a few run down old stadiums and then transform them into something special.

In which case we won't win it either. You can get your hopes up if you like, but you'll be disappointed.

Thanks for the info. Nice to hear that the club are looking to grow the facilities, can only be a good thing if we’ve got the dough to do it.

As a kid I used to go down to the training ground off Abbeydale Road (? I think). Last time I went Bruce was manager, I’d have been about 14 and was running round fetching balls from over the fence (one of which I snuckinto a bush to take home after).

I’ve also taken the kids down to Shirecliffe. The main building is ok where the car park is, but there’s not so much room considering everything that goes on there.

I agree about Shirecliffe, when I started this thread I said that I couldn’t see what’s wrong with Shirecliffe but the more I think about it the more this move would make sense, larger area to work with more pitches, bigger building’s, larger car park,a more “homely” location. It’s got everything really. Hoping the rumours are true and we do everything to get it.

That’s it, the name of the road rings a bell now you’ve said it. I only nicked one. I felt it was owed to me after running round after wayward shots from Laurent D’Jaffo.

We got chased by a young Curtis Woodhouse who was an apprentice at the time, then when he saw a few more of us over the road he started running back again 🤣
