Neal Maupay

Things he will factor in to come to a disscission are:
  • Salary - not as nice as the other prem teams in for him
  • Guaranteed starting place - basically yes, but no one is in a cw side
  • Location - furthest from london
  • League status - big club, but only a few seasons at premier league level in recent years
  • Club stability in the Prem - favourites to go down
  • Team style and tactics - best option by a mile imo

Apparently Maupay is motivated by football, not pay (no pun intended). Let’s hope he makes the right choice for him, either way it will be the right one for us too.

Agree 100%.

And I don’t get some of the Maupay hate that’s starting to show, although it’s probably jealousy. He’s a 22 year old from Versailles. I doubt he’s the faintest idea about Sheffield or Sheffield United until playing us 2 years ago. Shows more positives to his attitude that at 22 he’s enough about him to go away and weigh up his options as opposed to jumping at the highest wage.

I’d like to think he’ll have contacted Egan who’ll be able to sell Wilder. If he does choose us, it’s down to Wilder, not the club.

Maupay or mcburnie? Wait until one of them signs for someone else and then Ihe other will always have been the one we wanted and the other was always useless anyway, you wait and see

This "if he doesn't sign for us then he obviously wasn't right for us anyway" sentiment is embarrassing.
If he doesnt sign for us its because he wanted to go elsewhere.

There'd be no point in dwelling on it. We need 2 strikers, that should remain our focus.

McBurnie + A N Other preferably.

Know what you mean, but to be fair, one of Wilder's tick boxes is that a prospective signing must really want to sign for us, and for the right reasons, so in a way he might agree with the 'embarrassing sentiment'.

I know your 'but wages' stance,
But would really lose sleep over losing him if he picks Villa over us because they offer £10k a week more, would you hold that against us more than against the player?

Anyone but fucking Villa.

"I'm sorry, that's reserved for a Mrs Jones."

Going elsewhere for what in my opinion will be at least 60k p/w and 20k more than we'll offer and having a good chance of first team football wherever he goes is no slight on his character. He might not even have to move house.

If he 'wasn't right for us anyway' then the management, who know him better than us, wouldn't have been trying to make him our record signing for the last month.

The not right for us stuff is just a weak way of trying to make yourself feel better in preparation for him going elsewhere.

I think sometimes we need to take the rose tinted specs off. Wilders recruitment policy and strategy is more than admirable but put yourself in the place of effectively a young lad from another country with the big career move of his life facing him.

If he chooses someone else it doesn't automatically mean it's just about the money. And guess what, it might be if there's no other deal breakers.

What would you do if you couldnt decide or be sure which club was the best career move, but one was offering notably more wages?

It could also be that our exclusively British and Irish team is off-putting to anyone who isn't from those places. It might lead to feelings of isolation. That's not me slagging off our squad make-up, but it probably works both ways - great for togetherness if you're part of that group, not necessarily attractive if you're not.

Also I'm sure our lads would make anyone welcome wherever they're from, but it could be that a player from outside GB and Ireland would be more comfortable within a more multi-cultural squad.

Glad that I ain't got to choose for him.

I think that makes West Ham favourites then?

I dont think we'd have gone this far if there was no inclincling in Wilders mind he would be interested in us

It's not unfeasible to think his partnership with Benrahma worked so well because he is also French.

Very sensible of the lad, it’s a big move and he has a decision to make the fact he’s taking a considered view shows he has his head screwed on, I’d love it if he came to us, he was the one I was hoping we would sign! He’d Defo be a fan favourite his work rate as well as his current form is immense!

It's a good point. Other factors could be family and friends closer by if he stays down south; it can mean everything to a young lad playing his football in another country.

Or it could be that he's as thick as mince and won't do anything unless his agent says so ;)

I think that makes West Ham favourites then?

Not necessarily, as some of the conditions can be negotiated in a contract.

For example his main worry about joining United could be that his agent believed theres a 50/50 chance we’ll be back in the Championship next year.
So United might offer him a Jagielka type contract.

We could insert a buy out clause stating that if we are relegated next season,
then Maupay can be sold to any PL club offering 10 million.
With the transfer price being so low. Then Maupay could negotiate a massive pay rise with another PL club.

One would think Villa might be favourites as he’ll be re-United with his ex manager Smith and ex colleague Konsa.
But Villa fans are saying they only need a back up striker and 20 million is alot to pay for someone who is expected to be a sub.
Many say that the 20 milion could be spent in better areas, that are a bigger priority,
Will Maupay go to Villa if he’s starting down the pecking order and will struggle to start games?

Of course. But if staying in/near London is important and playing for a more established Prem club then West Ham would be favourites. They’d probably beat us on wages too (comfortably I think!).

From what we heard it sounds like we’d ticked all the boxes, in terms of fee, wages, agent, etc. So if it’s not concluded in the next 48 hours I’d guess he is being tempted by other options. We’ll know this week anyhow. Hope we get him. He’s just what we need (plus McBurnie!).

Is it just me that cant see someone like Wet Spam signing a player like Maupay? He's had one really good season in a mid table Championship team, surely they are more likely to go for someone from a "forrun" league who is proven at above Championship level (yes I know its La Liga but you know what I mean)

We think McBurnie might fancy us partly because we are in Yorkshire so it wouldn't be a total surprise if Maupay fancies a London club as hes only one train journey away from home.

They may surprise me but being West Ham and as always overestimating their level of importance, I would expect them to go for a bigger name, initially at least. They were linked with Diego Costa last week, who was always going to sack them off.

Villa may keep on spending although £15-20m is a lot for a reserve striker so I think the biggest dangers are Brighton (who are known to be looking for a striker) and Bournemouth.

They signed Jordan Hughill fairly recently.

11 followers. About as relevant as “my Nan’s milkman has a friend who spoke to someone when walking the dog who has a cousin that stayed in the copthorne 2 months ago and might, but might not have, seen Maupays wife”

I very much doubt Palace or West Ham were ever in for him.

This is getting on my nerves now...another club joining the race for Maupay. Listen: Maupay, if tha reading this, just tell these clubs who have come in late fo thi that tha not interested. Ask 'em, "if tha fancies me nah, why dint tha fancy me before?" and tell 'em to sod off. They're just messing thi abart and tha knows it. Get to Bramma Lane where tha'll be made welcome and given "legend" status in advance.
