Possible Summer Targets - Premier League

Tomas Kalas - RCB/RWB. Time for him to leave Chelsea. His age, athleticism and versatility appeals.

Ben Davies - CB/LCB. 23 years old. Had a good season for Preston. Decent physically and technically.

Ben Osborn - LWB/CM. A bit like Stephen Quinn but more athletic. Would take him but not for a huge fee.

James McCarthy - CM. Has come back from a broken leg. Decent all rounder. Might be available. Irish!

John Swift - CM/AM. Only if his injury problems aren't likely to be continuous. Wilder rates him.

Leroy Fer - CM. As above. Could be a massive player with a sustained run of fitness. Free transfer.

Robert Skov - AM. Highly sought after Danish winger at Copenhagen. Great left foot. Free kick specialist. 26 goals in 30 this season. *

Alexander Sorloth - CF. Target man alternative. Mobile and left footed. Only 23. Palace paid £9m for him from Midtjylland.

Lukas Nmecha - CF. If we're in for Kasey Palmer permanently, could we go for him too? Preston loan will have done him good.

Britt Assombalonga - CF. Boro will sell. Could he do it for us? Has the physicality we lack. Needs to be more clinical though.

Said Benrahma - AM/CF. Might be the time to get him before he has a second season similar to Maupay's.

Connor Wickham - CF. Now back from a knee injury. Good all round centre forward.

* Nicolaus_Copernicus first posted about him a while ago. https://www.s24su.com/forum/index.php?threads/robert-skov.65133/

A friend of mine asked me hypothetically who we should sign this summer and you've given the same list as me, but I think Abraham may go to someone like Wolves, Everton, Leicester or Palace.

According to the Sun, we can buy Deano for £7m. Sounds reasonable.

No brainer. Especially if there's no buy back clause.
Agreed. Even if there is a BBC, I think I'd still do it. The issue might arise that Deano may not want to come if no BBC?

Tomas Kalas - RCB/RWB. Time for him to leave Chelsea. His age, athleticism and versatility appeals.

Yep. Like that. Good player.

John Obi Mikel - Best defensive midfielder I've seen play against us in a long time when he came here with Boro. Premiership experience, Champions League WINNING experience, World cup experience. Quiet, unassuming model pro.

Mateusz Klich - Brilliant all round midfielder. Technically sublime. Will have interest but might stay with Leeds regardless if Bielsa does.

Lukas Jutkiewicz - Fits our 'something to prove' narrative after a not so fruitful time of it at Burnley. Superb header of the ball, big, strong. We'll need a targetman and if we don't go with Madine he's perfect. Will thrive on the quality of Norwood's whipped balls into the box.

I’ve always thought Ben Pearson was a decent player.

I’d be very pleased with business in the range of:

Pearson
Mcburrie (largest outlay)
Freeman
Hendo
And a couple of good loans signing

Reece James for example seems tailor made for our system.

If I was picking myself Phil biling, Ryan woods and Leroy Fer would be on my list.

Think madine May well sign as a target / plan b option. That said we need to target people who are comfortable on the ball

Don't know if anyone's said this already but Shane Long? Christ.

Give me Scotty Hogan any day, Shane Long couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo, think he's on 7 goals scored in 2 seasons.

Hogan can't have scored many to be fair but he also knows the club and has achieved something with us, better for team spirit innit.

I didn’t think a burrito from McDonald’s would cost that much to be fair

Shane Long...

Experienced
Fast
Hardworking
Versatile
Permanent
Low fee
Knows Egan and Stevens
Nominated for player of month!

If Southampton want to sell he'd be a good one to pick up for sure. He'd be like McGoldrick last summer - a cheap signing who can play with any strike partner, given a fresh start with something to prove, also helping reduce the need to spend big on that area of the pitch.

Shane Long is 31 and on 60 grand a week according to this website.

100% agree....always a handful, stays on his feet and is as good on the deck as he is in the air....(unlike Gazbo).... would be reasonably cheap too.

Fucking hell these suggestions. People don't want Madine to sign because he isn't good enough but people want Jutkiewicz,Assambolonga and Wickham!
For a start - yes they do. I wouldn’t mind Madine at all, he is a good player.

But Jutkiewicz is also very good one. Naive to think otherwise. He’d do a similar job and do it well, he’s been the perfect foil for Adams and helped himself to 15 goals to boot with 10 assists. If that’s not impressive I don’t know what is.

The best header of the ball in this division.

I'll say 'no' to all of those.

My list of wanteds is 2 from;
Mitrovic (subject to affordability)
Carroll (subject to being fit)
Abraham (would obviously be a loan)
McBurnie

Bowen looks like being way too expensive for an untested player.
Maupay looks way too expensive.

Failing that I'll let Mitchell have a pop given he's probably spent a bit more time looking around than I have, I hope his choise doesn't include any of the 4 mentioned by Adam though.

I'll just leave this here. Sky Sports power rankings. Not a fool proof system but is pretty in depth with the stats they use.

That top 20 says it all. Anyone turning their nose up at Juke wants to get real. Matured into a really really good player and an absolute beast in the air.

I'd be tempted to see what Brum wanted for Juke and Adams. Both would improve our forward line.

I've always liked Jutkiewicz. Strong, mobile target man capable of the spectacular. It's strange that he's never sustained periods of form, he's barely strung two seasons together. Might be one who peaks late. He's not too old either, he only turned 30 last month. Seeing the likes of Glenn Murray must inspire guys like him. It's impressive what he's done in that Birmingham team, with Adams dominating the goals.

I've also got plenty of time for the Sky Sports rankings because it's evident from the names on the list that it has a strong basis.

He's into the last year of his contract too.

So I'd definitely add him to the list of possibles...... if I didn't feel we were nailed on to sign Madine.

Great source and difficult to argue. I've always liked Hernandez pity he's too old now. Worryingly, apart from Vaulks and Webster, there's no one in the top 20 who we could a) afford and b) fits into our system. I must admit, I'm amazed Jutkiewicz is that much in front, he's one up on Madine at least.

Not sure he’s been mentioned as I can’t be bothered to look through 8 pages, but I think Eddie nketiah is a great shout on loan, pace trickery and works extremely hard. Rated highly at arsenal but limited to the bench and a few sub appearances, think he’s 19/20

He will surely go out on loan next season but you would have to think it may be to the Championship..?

Charlie Austin is on his way out of Southampton, wouldn't be surprised if we made an enquiry but expect his wages may be an issue. Having said that, I can't see him going to existing lower end Prem teams, (maybe Palace and possibly Brighton/Cardiff if they stay up) so a promoted team is probably his only option of remaining in the top flight.

Last year of contracts

Jack Robinson
Harlee Dean
Amari Bell
Ben Osborn
Jack Colback
James McCarthy
Andre Dozzell
Mateusz Klich
Romaine Sawyers
Kemar Roofe
Callum Robinson
Lukas Jutkiewicz
Connor Wickham
Shane Long
Kenneth Zohore

That's certainly of interest.

Thanks for pulling all this and all the other info together Ricky - very good of you and an interesting read.

If CW, either through his tight@rse Yorkshire DNA or budgetary constraints, is looking at bargains, then I'm sure some of these names will be on the list, particularly Sawyers, Roofe, Robinson, Jutkiewicz and probably Long, although he is one I must admit I don't get. Non-scoring strikers is not an area I think needs recruiting to.
