This is an aside but talk of academy and all that...wonder if Brooks is earning more than Fleck & Norwood will next season.

Suspect it is probably close -

In fairness the move has worked out all round. Brooks will get a new contract and or a move to a top side and be on say 80k plus soon enough and we will pick up a chunky sell on. We brought in Norwood and Egan with the proceeds and the rest is history.

However, I do wonder if he will regret not hanging fire for a season and playing in a promotion winning side - not many players have the chance to be part of something like that in their careers. We would have sold him this offseason if we hadn’t gone up for sure.

Same with the likes of Adams. He swapped 2 promotions in 3 years for mid table nothingness with Birmingham.... The grass isn’t always greener.

Brooks recently signed a new, improved contract at Bournemouth so will be on way more than Utd's players, even with an uplift on their salaries.

At least JoC stayed rather than join Brighton, hopefully we can ease past them next season.

Just found the article, supposedly on 50k/ week but won't be surprised if he gets offers in summer from a big 6 club.

In the past, we've sold every fucker thats come out of there.

I asked who's coming through now so we don't have to buy in, thought that was what its for.
One of the most important players the Academy has produced in recent years was Danny Cockerline. Because David Brooks plays Association Football. 11 a side. David Brooks needed a goalkeeper in the team he played in. And some midfielders & a striker like Danny Cockerline to win balls for him, hold it up, and run channels. No Cockerline. No Brooks. No £12m. No cash for Wilder. No promotion.

All Academies correctly coach hundreds of players at all age levels. So that when a Walker, a Maguire, a Calvert-Lewin, a Brooks comes along they have a team to play in & teammates to help them develop. Not all Academy Players make it, but they're all needed, so that others can.

I don’t think there’s anyone who is at the required level, unfortunately. As far as I know, there’s no one in the academy who’s close to Championship level, let alone PL level. The nearest, I believe, are Regan Slater, Rhys Norrington Davies and Tyler Smith...and maybe Harvey Gilmour but I don’t think any of them are ready for the step up to the first team squad yet..I could be wrong... Ball_Sup (Phil) knows most about them, maybe he can put us straight.
Harvey Gilmour was "sold" in the January Window. Slater, Smith, Norrington-Davies are currently nowhere near Top End Championship quality. The first team have progressed very quickly. (Of course, they are 100% Academy Graduates themselves). We've sort of moved past many of our best Academy players who were recruited when we were a League One side.

Peter Etebo - Not many have stood out against us like he did in that first half yesterday. Signed for Stoke £6m with big expectations. He's started to live up to them. Had a good end to the season after settling in to what is a very hard division for imports to adapt, but hasn't had a good enough season overall to be in high demand. So he could be in our range. If he continues this form for another 6 months then he'd likely be unattainable.

Now appears the optimal time to sign him, balancing risk and cost - although that is still likely to be more than what Stoke paid.

He has excellent attributes. Very athletic, versatile, good with the ball and drives forward, on either side of the pitch. And he's only 23.

A player like him would jump at the chance of moving to the PL.

He would properly cover every midfield position, and probably become a starter and big asset.

Josh Dasilva - Yet another one at Brentford. 20 year old left footed central midfielder. Caught my eye in the highlights of their win over Preston. Looks like a true all rounder with real potential. Maybe we could nip in before he grows in value, although I'd expect Brentford to be wise to that. And I'm not sure he'd want to leave London.

Amari Bell - I've already named him here but he's the best option I can see to offer specialist LWB cover. Younger than I thought having today turned 25, and has a lot of time to improve. Has really established himself at Championship level and only has a year left on his Blackburn contract.

I'm gonna throw in axel tuanzebe for the Rcb role. Possibly loan, maybe permanent if he or man u decide he's not going to get many opportunities. Especially if they spend big on a new cb and rb which I think they will. Also assuming villa don't go up and he stays there.

They sell there best players for 12m it’s the going rate from champ to prem. At 12 I would be interested

Depends if he can make the step up though. If he can score 10-15 goals yeh. If he’s going to be like Huddersfield’s and Cardiff’s strikers I wouldn’t be interested at £1m.

With coutts and cranie gone

And Carruthers, lagferty, henegan, Thomas, wright, Evans, Clark and Holmes all available.

Not to mention, dowell, madine, hogan and henoo (for now) now longer

We going to have to make some serious additions this summer to flesh out the squad even if not all are first team starters.

1 Keeper

3 marquee signings

3 backup / competition signings

2 loans

That’s the minimum required after publication of the released and transfer list. Big summer coming up.

With Freeman not being listed i imagine RWB is probably the only position we aren’t looking to bring somebody in

I didn't even know the list had been announced... I shall take a look :) If freeman is staying then fair enough we don't need Simpson.

The retained list has no surprises apart from possibly Cranie.

We were always going to need at least 8 signings.

I'd add Joe Hart (free) as a alternative to deano. Would free up another Prem loan

Why does everyone rattle on about Joe Hart? Burnley have 3 great keepers and their 3rd choice Nick Pope has proven premier league experience and international recognition and would be in our wage bracket if we were gonna buy one. Most of the Burnley team would fit our wage structure so having a chat about Robbie Brady for the 10 position might be a good shout too

Maybe because he wouldn't cost a transfer fee, whereas pope would probably be at least £10m. Brady would be good for Lwb, but he's never played 10 before.

"We want to invest in young players," Wilder continued. "Young players who can step up to this level and fit in with the core of the group who have got us here."

That probably rules out anyone age 30+ coming in.

Arsenal apparently want to sell Calum Chambers.

Signed a contract last summer until 2022, for some reason. What wages will he be on? 50k?

At around £10m I think he'd be a very smart, low risk signing who we could develop and build around.

Who would you personally prefer him to play ahead of?

10m could well be half the transfer budget!

Whichever of Basham and Norwood are struggling most. I think we'll need his type in midfield, ultimately.

I feel he's equally suited to RCB or RCM which would make him a very ideal fit for us.

I'd prefer Reece James, though if Chelsea want to keep him around I reckon Chambers would be a good 2nd option.

I could see Everton being open to selling Holgate, I think he could be a better option than Chambers, though he's not as versatile.

I'd prefer both.

Sign James and Chambers, then the right side of the team will definitely be strong.

And it's that right side that we need to strengthen. The left side is already very strong.

If Everton will sell Holgate I'd be interested but I don't think they will.

If signing both is an (affordable) option then I'd be all for it.

As for Holgate, at 22, he's at an age where he's probably going to be pestering for 1st team football. If Everton sign any more defenders and he's pushed further down the pecking order, there could be potential for a permanent deal. (All speculation on my part I'd point out)
