McGODrick as he is now known

The defence has been outstanding though,I mean JOC and Egan = magic

Player of the season taking everything into account has to be McGoldrick.
Remember he’s not just a goal scorer, but links midfield with the attack, he drops deep, controlling the ball making good passes.
He’s almost more like an attacking midfielder than a striker and he works so hard.
It’s hard to believe that’s he’s over 30 and hard to believe he had such a poor injury record before joining us.

Honourable mentions to Stevens, Sharp, Basham and Norwood.
over 30 means very little these days in terms of players ability to run and run. The physio support they get now and the sports science means that players can easily stretch their careers into mid to late 30s compared with even 20 years ago when they were out on the piss all the time and the physio was a retired ex pro who owned a sponge.

As you say the key to players his age is not get injured and we've probably had a slice of luck there given his recent record. for me POTY ranking is as follows

Sharp, Stevens, Mcgoldrick Norwood Egan....but that leaves out so many who deserve very high praise. Blooy amazing season

You could make reasons why half the team deserve to win POTY. My stand out players are Sharp, McGoldrick and Stevens. Sharp scores goals, McGoldrick for his all round game he really is a clever footballer, Stevens the most improved player from last season I challenge anyone to name a better LWB in the championship. Who ever wins wouldn't be there if it wasn't for the rest of the team, special mentions to for the players who haven't played many games when needed they have stepped in and never let us down.
It is a squad game today more than ever and while we may not have the greatest players like Woodward and Currie this squad on the whole has been fantastic playing the best football seen since the Harris team promoted in 1971.

Some of the replies here when he signed just goes to show, Wilder knows best.

Contender for player of the season. Absolute master stroke bringing this guy in for absolutely nowt!

He's been arguably our best player for the last few months. Talk about value for money!

''.... the best player we’ve had in the last ten years. But I was happy to see him leave. His injury record primarily but also it just felt time for him to move on. As it’s turned out he had plenty to offer, but clearly not for us. He has had a brilliant season and the move has been great for him.''

''...I’ve always said it - the most gifted player we’ve had over the past 10 years. Whenever you’d ask the players about him, they’d say he was the best player on the books. Even Chambers said publicly last spring that you should never allow a player of his quality to have his contract wind down. He should never have been allowed to leave, simple as that.''

''...Just a lovely "proper" footballer. Can control, pass, dribble and shoot. Not sure the current strikers on our books have that ability when combined.''

''...good luck to him and the Blunts. Not so long ago they were in League 1.''

Blunts :)

And that's a big part of the reason why us going up is the right thing to happen for football.

Pound for pound, nobody can touch us.

Long way to go but Imagine wilder with even a vaguely premier league budget!!!

He’s a different player to anything we have. He’s the kind of clever player who may just be able to unlock a defence and provide some spark coming off the bench with 15-20 mins to go.

Provided we have protected ourselves financially with some form of low based salary, with performance driven incentives, then I don’t see any problem with it. To me, provided the numbers are ok, this signing is a fairly low risk, (potentially) high reward scenario.

We just have to manage our expectations with him. Hope for 20-30 appearances, probably mostly from the bench, and never playing twice within the week. Somewhere amongst that batch of games, if he has a couple of purple patches that provide some points we can probably consider the signing a successful one.

His commute has been dramatically cut, he’ll be back at home amongst family and friends. If he’s a normal bloke like the rest of us, this should contribute dramatically to his general well-being and enthusiasm.

One huge success of Wilder’s has been his ability to manage and protect his older players - Duffy in particular. Fingers crossed he can do the same for McGoldrick. All of these factors combined, have me feeling fairly good about this signing.

I’ve been referring back to this post in my head over recent weeks, I couldn’t remember exactly what I said so I’m glad you’ve resurrected the thread.

I knew I was one of the ones who had been quite positive about him coming in as I had always liked him as a player. I knew about his skills and ability to create something in the final third, but I always had an impression of him as being a bit languid, often not involved in games, a bit of a confidence player etc. I hadn’t realised (but maybe it’s a new thing) that he has phenomenal work rate and some of the best movement I’ve seen at this level.

My criteria for success was that he contribute to some points and appear 20-30 times, largely from the bench. Well I believe he’s scored more match winners than any other player in the division this season and has appeared in just about every match we’ve played. He’s now scored 15 goals and probably has half a dozen assists to his name. An entire season of excellence goes beyond a couple of purple patches. He’s a contender for POTY. He’s dragging us over the line and leading from the front. What a signing.

Before anybody writes him off it should be remembered that he is actually a decent player, more than decent actually. Yes he has had his injuries but (partly for that reason) he won't cost a fortune and he does bring several years of championship experience.
On the excitement scale, for me, he's on a par with Stearman. Not a world beater but he knows the league inside out and will run through walls.
Shame he missed half of last season because Piggy Louvens decide to rake his studs down his groin in a pretence of a tackle. What a horrible cunt he was.

Anyway I digress. GLTTL, if he signs.

Fair play Stretch, you called this spot on!

One of our best signings ever, when you consider the cost and the effect he's had.

I'm just amazed at his fitness. I always liked him as a player, but I couldn't imagine that he'd stay fit all season and end up playing 40-odd games for us. Not sure what Ipswich's medical staff were playing at, because he never seemed fit for them.

What I've seen from this lad since the start is a real hunger and a player that's been told to just go and express himself(credit to the gaffer and Co). In the last few games though, the lad has really stepped it up and I think he's taken a bit more responsibility due to the absence of Billy and he's been on a bit of a one man mission.

A proper Bladesman!

That is all.

If anyone was commuting Nottingham to Ipswich every day then you might be excused the odd bad back and stay at home. So the fitness record might not be as bad as made out.

This is the most games he's ever played in a season. Huge bonus, he's a Don

I read (possibly on here) that he used to commute from Nottingham. If that's true, it can't have helped his injury situation.

Mcgoldrick would be a clever signing if he can prove his fitness. He is a silky player who can unlock a defence and as done it consistently at championship level. Always rated him.

As for the panic on here by some. Chill the fuk out. Its probably going to be as game of brinksmanship with agents and selling clubs. It's expected. CW knows who He wants and he will sort it shortly.

I have total confidence in CW and that we will have a very competitive championship squad at kick off on day 1.

How right you were...

Nottingham to Sheffield 37 mile, Nottingham to Ipswich 37 tractors, must have been a nightmare (seriously).
