CONFIRMED David McGoldrick Signs

He’s a different player to anything we have. He’s the kind of clever player who may just be able to unlock a defence and provide some spark coming off the bench with 15-20 mins to go.

Provided we have protected ourselves financially with some form of low based salary, with performance driven incentives, then I don’t see any problem with it. To me, provided the numbers are ok, this signing is a fairly low risk, (potentially) high reward scenario.

We just have to manage our expectations with him. Hope for 20-30 appearances, probably mostly from the bench, and never playing twice within the week. Somewhere amongst that batch of games, if he has a couple of purple patches that provide some points we can probably consider the signing a successful one.

His commute has been dramatically cut, he’ll be back at home amongst family and friends. If he’s a normal bloke like the rest of us, this should contribute dramatically to his general well-being and enthusiasm.

One huge success of Wilder’s has been his ability to manage and protect his older players - Duffy in particular. Fingers crossed he can do the same for McGoldrick. All of these factors combined, have me feeling fairly good about this signing.

Crikey, I didn't realise he was this old! No wonder he's always injured..

Wilder's shrewd signing.

One year deal. Sensible. I hope he doesn't have a Hammond/Wallace option to extend (I suspect he won't).

Hard to see him featuring for more than 25 or so games, but you never know. Pretty low risk signing with possible upside. If he can replicate what Donaldson did that's not bad going.

If he can stay fit it would be an excellent signing, but all the evidence would suggest he can't and will be lucky to play 50% of games this season.

He only missed games last season through a gash in his thigh, sustained after playing Wednesday. Could’ve happened to anyone

Great post mate :)

Won us enough points to make all the difference

Legend status for a freebie

Just as important is the fact he has won the trust and respect of the fans.

Know he has a missed a few chances along the way but I always love watching him play. Skills to die for and now getting the goals too.

Been a fantastic signing for us.

No ambition this club, fucking stocking filler at best, alway injured, maybe a squad player at best, Is he the best we can get?

WRONG - PLAYER OF THE SEASON BAR NONE.
Absolute 100%. The way he has dragged us through these last few games (Bristol to Forest) which let’s be honest, weren’t amazing, except for his performances. MOTM for the last 6 games, unfortunately not voted for it at home due to the fact it is only voted for by under 14s depending on who’s scored. Very good all season but absolutely immense when it has really mattered.

To be fair all the players deserve the player of the season award. They've all been fantastic and those that don't play often have come in and done a job. It's a team game as Wilder says and all have played their part .
I don't think anyone thought we'd be in the position we are now at the start of the season. No we're not promoted yet, but we are so, so close.
All the players deserve the accolade to have put us in such a fantastic position.

They have all been
Christ on the cross. Saw this and thought he'd had a night out in Rhyl.
Now come on , who the fuck would be daft enough to do that and ruin not only his career but his clubs chance of going up , I mean come on , Doh !

How lucky have we been that he's stayed fit all season? Without him, who knows where we would be.

Player of the season taking everything into account has to be McGoldrick.
Remember he’s not just a goal scorer, but links midfield with the attack, he drops deep, controlling the ball making good passes.
He’s almost more like an attacking midfielder than a striker and he works so hard.
It’s hard to believe that’s he’s over 30 and hard to believe he had such a poor injury record before joining us.

Honourable mentions to Stevens, Sharp, Basham and Norwood.
