We complain when the police treat our fanbase like thugs who can't be trusted, complain about the cordoning off of seats, then there'll be fans running onto the pitch against the wishes of the club, players, football authorities, police, and probably before the final whistle.
We are worried about the effect on our enjoyment that increased security measures might have - searches, restrictions on taking things in*, rows of stewards in front of the stands - and wish we could be trusted with standing areas again. But the mistrust all seems justified when fans run onto the pitch. It's only a few weeks since a player got attacked by someone running on, it's not just our players on the pitch.
At some point the authorities are going to make an example of a club. Can you imagine a 3 point deduction for out of control fans that got the game called off 10 minutes before time? If they're going to pick on anyone, we've got to be up there as chief candidates.
It's not even that spontaneous anymore - it's being talked about the week before. It always looks like kids, tossers and numpties. Is it really worth it?
*some people have all but given up smuggling cats in.
