Flat atmosphere on the Kop

Not enough care enough.

As for the club, they're completely oblivious. It's a non subject for them.

The current situation on the Kop is horrendous. It's broken.

Need to get that upper tier on the south stand built to house the Kop's army of pensioners...

And yes, the younger ones are fucking useless as well.
I sit behind the goal on the kop. I sit where I stood 40 years ago. It was the centre of the noise, and when they seated it, those like me got seats there.

You’re right, 20 years later it’s the same people who’ve grown old, the majority of which no longer make any noise.

Home matches are like your wife who you've been married to for 20 years.

You still love her, but there's just not that burning passion inside you anymore to go for ninety minutes.

An away match is like trying to satisfy twenty beautiful women whilst overdosed on viagra.

The Hair gets greyer, the todger gets limper.

Nothing will get done until the club give a shit. Some clubs are noticing that their atmosphere is important, others it's just not on the radar at all at the moment.

I have to admit I'm at times a bit embarrassed at how quiet it is, though there are worse places than the Lane, but I completely understand that we're just not set up to be noisy at the moment. As has been said over and over, the Kop is a mess, sitting, standing, singing, whinging, old, young, good knees, bad knees innit.

The only way to resolve that is for the club to do some kind of ticket amnesty/incentive "Why not try the South Stand?"

Or knock it down and rebuild it and do a middle block safe standing.

Until that happens they should do some more work pre game. It's like being in the waiting room at the dentist at the moment, pleasant Radio 2 music, everyone reading their programmes or on their phones.

How about getting everyone shouting? Install some microphones in the ground and have the Blades Superroar, the loudest section after a game, the season ticket holders get put in a prize draw.

Or would everyone hate shit like that?

Tldr, it's not the worst around but sort it aaaaat United.

I don’t think you are a married man Steve. I’ve been married for over 20 years and I can tell you it’s not like that.

I can still go for 90 minutes with her. Admittedly I sometimes go down and feign injury for a few minutes in between. I roll around on the bed clutching my injured part. I go off for a drink when there’s a break in play. And I need a pie and a Bovril half way through. I can compete well for 55-60 minutes. But then I sit back and let her come on to me. At this point she’s begging for a change of formation. A fresh pair of legs. A bit more thrust up front. But, to my great credit, she’s never subbed me off.

I’ve been married over 20 years and would opt for a wank every time. :)

I can still go for 90 minutes at the match though.

It’s been dead for 12 months now, to be fair I’ve always said need to change music at start but don’t see it changing.

Think the negative fans put a real downer on the place to be honest.

Don't change the music, just switch it off. Let us hear the away fans and that will soon get us going. Rather than we all popping along to the Love Parade.

Since when was the consensus of opinion that playing a bunch of shite music at the start of a match in some way entertaining?

Atmosphere has been awful since we got promoted. Hard to explain why.

Can't say I agree with that, I think it's just that our turnaround under Wilder and our rise from the ashes in the L1 promotion season was pretty amazing and the atmosphere that season was a bit special. That doesn't come along very often, and if you think back it was really shit the season before that (with good reason).

I’m one of those non dead men from the 1970’s btw. There are loads of us from that era who still go to the matches and aren’t dead yet. I’m struggling to see what that’s got to do with the atmosphere tbh? It’s not like there aren’t new generations of fans coming through.

Maybe us older ones are more noisy than the younger generation because we aren’t cut off from the world around us by wearing headphones or being preoccupied texting into a phone? That could be a factor.

I think the atmosphere is directly related to how we are performing. Against Villa it was raucous. Against Brum and Preston it was like a library.

Of bigger concern to me is why have our home gates dropped by over 3,000 compared to last season?

I think it's football in general. Too much televised stuff/red button has taken away that 'exclusivity' that football used to have. That, insane ticket prices, all the hoops you've got to go through to actually get to a game etc. is killing the game. Leave the ground via Bramall Lane and you're confronted with coppers (who you'll never see normally) in full riot gear, with yapping German shepherd dogs just waiting for you to look at them in the wrong way. It's not a pleasant experience any more.

The 'great prize' of getting to the PL just sees you getting tonked by Man. City and Liverpool or playing dull shite like Watford, Palace, Burnley etc. etc.

^ This, especially as the quality of the football has increased. Last/this season, the same games were:

Norwich: 26,218 (23,850)
Villa: 27,427 (26,030)
Birmingham: 27,427 (23,525)
Preston: 28,568 (23,857)

Haven't we sold more season tickets this season? Or was that one of those "at this point we've sold more" things?

Probably a combination of some disappointment from the back end of last season, novelty wearing off, POTG price/ Category issues.

Not saying slash ticket prices, but there are too few low category games.

It seems to be BLUT missing the most to me, hardly anyone up there this season.

I've also a gut feeling (and it's a big gut), that there's been a lot fewer away fans so far this season, but I can't find the stats ont' internet to prove/disprove my theory. Villa being the exception, because i think they sold out last season & this. :)

Was the likes of Predtin Catehory A last season? One of the dullest fixtures and one of the highest prices.

I think we’ve upped the number of Cat A games, catapulting the increased POTG prices to a new level.,

Fuckin too right ...

Tho' I was sat in an Air Conditioned Car, listening to RS on DAB, suckin on an Extra Strong Mint .....

Knowing I had mi Smart Phone handy if suddenly forgot who I was and where I was going ..... :)

Football atmospheres will continue to get worse and worse.

A lot of the men who went to matches in the 70s, 80s, and 90s are now dead or too old to attend.

Football is now a sanitised family event like going to the cinema.
Hey I am not dead yet !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But your right , sitting killed it for me , standing on the kop is and always will be the best atmosphere I have ever experienced at a football match . But times change and things move on , I personally yearn for those days again .

Get a singing section like palace? Bottom corner of the kop it’s much much easier to get a song gin if your all goin to sing and are together.
Atmosphere breads atmosphere

I get that the Kop isn't as vocal as earlier years and there's a few factors for that that have already been mentioned. I think that all clubs are the same though I don't think that we're alone in this. I think we all would agree that the Kop would be better standing and hopefully by the time we decide to extend and refurb the Kop that the safe standing law will have been changed.

In the meantime I think that the Singing Section is a decent suggestion but on the other hand if all those that want to sing are in one oatch then the rest of the Kop might not join in as currently you have several pockets of people that sing that then catch on the a larger part of the Kop and then the whole Kop. If all the singers are together (presumably at the back of the Kop in the Centre) then I'm not sure the rest of the Kop would join in anymore than it does now.

But I think all teams have similar problems on singing and those that do well on this are teams like Palace who are mainly the underdog and that always helps to have a good atmosphere and of course they're in the PL with full attendances. I dare say if they were in the Championship with 18,000 there playing Ipswich and the like that their atmosphere would be nowhere near as good.

Well if you will persist in sitting in the football equivalent of an old folks home,:), what can you expect. ?

Surely the global decline in atmosphere in English football is due to all seater stadiums. It’s unnatural, to sit at football. You sit in libraries, theatres, cinemas, with the caveat of age and disability you SHOULd stand at football.

There is’nothing wrong with the atmosphere at the back’of the kop. One of the liveliest and loudest fans who regularly gets the crowd going is a 50 + guy.

Football is or should be an exciting exhilarating spectacle. WHY or how can people sit through it ?

Alcoblade you could always ask’the people sat round you to rattle their zimmer frames, to paraphrase John Lennon.

UTB

People are just cobbled together in random places with no specific area for noise etc. You might expect it to be like that at Wembley, but it shouldn't be like that for your home games.

If only we could clear out just 10 rows of the useless fuckers at the back of gangway D/E and have a properly publicised campaign to get the vocal fans together there.

It would transform it overnight.
