Solid backs to striped kits..

With UEFA banning it, I wonder if having a solid back but striped front has anything to do with confusing the opposition. I might be reading into it too much, but I was thinking on Saturday that it's hard to get used to, almost like having two strips depending on whether the players is facing you or has his back turned.

So although it's not a big hit with fans, it might well be for performance gain rather than to sell shirts.

Did Villa think there were double the players on the pitch because of this? I imagine they were looking for Claret shirts and anything that wasn't Claret, was clearly not their teammate

Check out the UEFA equipment regulations, page 18 article 8. It mentions colours not being too distinctive from the main theme of the kit

So 8.03 suggests that our back should be red, not white ? It all seems a bit contradictory. The drawings suggest stripes must continue but 8.03 says..

"The colours used to create a hooped, banded, striped or checked shirt on the
front must both be clearly visible on the back of the playing attire if the same
pattern (e.g. stripes) is not used on the back of the playing shirt."

Either that, or red numbers should've been used?!?!

I imagine Olympiakos having white numbers ticks this box.

It's clearly a load of contradictory, beaurachratic tripe, but it does state visibility and distinctiveness as needing to be consistent. Which says to me that it's about not using kit to confuse the opposition. They're not handing rules out for fans opinions of whether they like a plain back or not

TBF it did look at times that we had more players on the pitch than them, but I put this down to our excellent movement around the ball.

Sabella had a much fatter stripe. Fact! Hammond had a very thin one.

The moral of this story is medium stripes are probably best.
