Outgoing? Billy Sharp

From what I have seen and heard, Sharp has risen to the challenge of more competition (if and when it eventually arrives) by returning to pre season leaner and, ahem, Sharper than ever.

It will be more than interesting to see how the season pans out. If we get the extra 2 in, he may be reduced to infrequent sub appearances which I am quite sure, will lead to a January exit.

And so the rumours of an exit this window should not be dismissed out of hand.

I think reducing his role to impact sub would be a huge error of judgement on Wilders part.

You will have to drag Billy kicking and screaming out of Bramall Lane.

He ain't going to a glue factory anytime soon.

And after being quickly outed then confirms it was for likely for Wyke.

When local journos are spending time trolling on social media is there any wonder they're hardly held up in high esteem on here.

For the benefit of James Shields check your facts first. If HITC are more up to date then he's got problems. Sunderland owner tweeted he wasn't in for Sharp and Sharp's other half also rubbished rumours he had spoken about his future.

He didn't actually say that though Addison.

Steward Donald said "We have made no offer on Sharp". Poor English aside.....That doesn't mean they are not interested, it simply means they haven't made an offer.........yet..........

If we sign 3 new strikers, is Sharp really likely to hang around?

A situation could easily develop where he's left out of the squad. Which I think he'd take very badly.

If Waghorn or Marriott sign, I wouldn't be surprised if he requests a transfer.

Billy Sharp scored 13 goals and got 4 assists last season, he's our captain, he looks fit as fook, he's dropped some weight and he's played well in preseason so far.

He'll be playing for us regularly, high up the heirarchy, and scoring for us. I'd put money on it.

Don't know what everyone's seeing that makes them write him off so quick. Like "oh, obviously Billy will be left to rot on the bench". He's in the position of power in our team compared to anyone coming in.

It's up to them to displace him with form not age or fee.

Wilder is clear on this – the existing strikers know that we want to add quality in this area, it’s hardly a secret, and they’ve responded well and understand this. Sharp will, inevitably I think, not be a regular starter if we get our targets in. He’s also made it fairly clear that he thinks he still has value here and doesn’t want to leave. The reality of what happens may be different, but there’s nothing in what’s been addressed publicly to suggest there’s a problem here. Frankly if there would have been one it would have been when the likes of Wilson and Donaldson were being played ahead of him in the derby. It didn’t result in a transfer request.

Personally I'd rather have Billy than Waghorn next season, not sure after that. Problem with either of them is in the second half of last season we didn't get enough early good balls into a forwards area and went back to this slow fanny about stuff. If we fix that Billy could do a good job, not sure Waghorn would. Check out what the Rangers fans think, not impressive.

I can see him accepting being 3rd choice but not 4th or 5th. He's (thankfully) one of those footballers desperate to play every minute. I'm guessing it depends on who we sign.

Exactly. Couldn’t have said it better.

I’d rather have Billy than ANY of the forwards we’ve been linked with. Waghorn, Gallagher, Hogan, Winnall - what’s so special about them that puts them higher in the pecking order? I’m not saying don’t sign any of them, but for me if any of them come in, they start the season on the bench behind Billy Sharp and Leon Clarke.

Right here, right now, BS is still a good Championship level forward. IF we could bring in someone that would genuinely improve us and fire us on towards promotion then fine, drop him if the new lad proves his worth.

All I’m saying though, is that the names mentioned, for me, are unlikely to do that for us, based on their records/levels they’ve played at.

Some people are just desperate to bring new players in, assuming that means they’re better than what we have already. That isn’t always the case though, and I haven’t heard a name mentioned YET who I would stick straight in ahead of BS or LC.

Waghorn for £5million + would be a signing that comes in and has to start. You cannot sign a player for that and say maybe we start him on the bench.

IF the signing comes off it will be Billy dropping to bench. Then Billy has to fight with Mcgoldrick (possibly) for the first sub on.

Me personally I can see Billy leaving at his own choice. At his stage of his career he will want to play and get himself a new big contract somewhere.

It’s all If buts and maybes at the moment.

You're probably correct in what you say but the age Billy and Leon are at means we have to start phasing someone else in and this is not an overnight process. It would be irresponsible for CW to just let it ride and hope for the best.

Yeah....just like Wilder to act irresponsibly. He'll pay no attention to what the team's doing and then we'll be up shit creek won't we?

Just listening to Wilder's comments surrounding Waghorn, the type of person, not just the type of player, is central to whether we pursue someone. In Waghorn's case, his current employer seem to have a very different valuation to the amount Wilder's willing to pay, which is exactly what I'd expect from our manager.

After far too many years where we've had to try and pick up decent players from the lower rungs of the Football League, is it any wonder that now that he's able to spend what might be called average amounts for decent players at this level, that he employs healthy caution on the club's behalf? It's not as if we can buy a player, for say £6-8 million, and then expect them to sit on the bench? Egan will, if he performs well, be expected to play alongside the likes of JOC and whoever else Wilder considers the best mix to defend our keeper. Nothing complicated about that, but in buying Egan Wilder has viewed him for a few season's, so he'll know what we're buying, and apart from a steady, fearless, and decent defender, we're also getting a potential captain.....and no team can have too many leaders, can they?

Wtf are you on about. I was just giving my opinion on why Wilder won't be over relying on Billy and Leon for the coming season and will be bringing someone else in. Go and make yourself a cup of tea or summat and calm down.

Your comment about someone, presumably the manager, acting irresponsibly, warranted a response. Don't know why you're vexed about this, so in the spirit of generosity I'll allow you to take my place in the queue so that you can make a delicious cup of camomile tea, which I hear acts a treat when irritable behaviour is obvious.

To quote myself, I said "it would be irresponsible" which is hypothetical and not in the present so it's you who was vexed, not me.

By the way I prefer Rooibos. Try it sometime, there's no caffeine in it and it makes you less irritable.
