23 year old centre mid from Hibs had a very impressive season this past year and has been getting a bit of buzz that he could go to a lower prem side this summer but if he doesn’t then a Championship move would seem possible if teams are willing to pay up.

He’d be a very very good fit for us he profiles as an all round box to box type player not shy to make a tackle break up play and recover the ball but then he likes to drive forward with it and move his team up the pitch. It’s a role Wilder has previously favoured in his midfields here with Fleck, Lundstram and Berge all being deployed in that fashion at one time or another.

Experience and apparent leadership value aside this lad would be a much smarter investment the Kalvin Phillips let’s say and could really anchor a new look midfield for us.

I’ve been one of his admirers this season. He would be great in the Championship, with more development to come and a sell on value so, as you say, much more upside than taking on a very expensive gamble on Kalvin Phillips. He would also be a great replacement for Peck. Unfortunately, I don’t think this is the sort of direction we are currently headed in.

Yep CW is on record as saying w eneed more experience and have one of the youngest squads in the league. I suspect Hulls success last year isnt helping in that respect.

Im not saying we shouldn't be signing more experienced players, especially at centre back, but there is a danger that a midfield with the likes of Rothwell and Phillips in it isnt atheltic enough for the championship. On the face of it this lad has the right profile, especially ially if we sell Peck

I'd completely forgotten about Rothwell 🤦

It’s a really weird stance for Wilder to be taking in midfield when you look at his most successful squads here he’s prioritised athletes in his midfields outside of the holding player. Fleck, Lundstram, Berge were all energetic box to box players at their best.

Even signings which didn’t necessarily work out followed that same player profile Evans whilst not necessarily having the most consistent work rate was more than capable of going box to box for 90 minutes and Leonard was arguably the epitome of the technically limited but a plus athlete in centre mid.

Wilder would use those type player to help bind the team together getting up to add bodies in attack, create overloads and add genuine goal threat and also getting back to help cover his fullbacks. They’d also play a key role in when we pressed especially if teams tried to play it across to their fullbacks as the box to box midfielder on that side would be a key part of trying to close that player down and cut off outballs.

It’s very odd that he seems to be getting away from a player profile which was an important cog in his most successful sides.

Because of our tactical regression and general lack of athleticism we lack the ability to maintain a high press and I don’t see that changing next season.

This is not new.
We’ve needed bigger, faster, fitter, stronger players since at least 2020. Our lack of athleticism was one of the reasons we got relegated after our great season in the PL.
And nothing has changed since then.
It’s like someone doesn’t think it’s that important.

The priority now is neat, tidy, technically sound. His best teams had 5 athletic players behind the midfield and Fleck to ball carry.

Now, it's just Norwood style players without the passing range or personality
