Planning permission for the south stand

The kop redevelopment as planned is ideal. It will cost peanuts, improve the facilities and leave the ticket prices at an affordable level for those who do not wish to pay more or cannot pay more. Anyone not satisfied with the outcome can go business class and relocate to the new south stand. In the real world you get what you pay for, I cannot see where the issue is.

Given the political leanings demonstrated by some on here, I'm surprised that no-one has suggested that the South Stand patrons should be subject to a levy on their ticket prices to subsidise the construction of a brand new, singing and dancing kop for the "poor".

To answer Ghandi (sic.) Yes, I think it does make the ground lobsided - if it is intended to build the extension to the south stand before the Kop is built higher. All the renderings I have seen show the new South Stand adjacent the higher Kop roof with a great windscreen joining the two vertically.

Otherwise, it is unsophisticated lowbrow architecture, what can I say, there are architects about who can acheive much more useful and beautiful solutions?
The chunk taken out of the new extension because the hotel gets in the way is daft.-

-This is clear evidence of a lack of forward planning (masterplanning), 'we' built the hotel, now its a rod for 'our' backs. The façade of the back of the new stand doesn't make the carpark area any better, it makes no 'urbanistic' contribution as its a sheer wall (of overheating sheet glass facing due South btw).
I think the roof structure (often the trade-mark of a stadium reference my sketch scheme) is profoundly mundane and uninventive, I'd stick most of the façade glass in the roof to let the grass grow and prevent shadows on the pitch for televised games, I doubt that has even been borne in mind, some architects forget that sort of thing.

Oh and the office block in the corner just gets in the way, it could be built hard by Cherry Street.

I do think that a remolding of the John Street stand and moving it all nearer the South would be the better solution architectonically, but, as mentioned above, this would necessitate loss of some existing seats and Kevin is much opposed to any demolition.

Thereby lies the nub, to make a stadium really work, some demolition is needed but I think that goes against the grain ... after all, one of the owners is a Yorkshireman ;).

IF the kop extension is built as an entirely independent structure from the existing mound then said mound could be removed AFTER the new construction to enable its modernisation with up to date standards BUT, if, the new part of the Kop is built as it were contiguous with the back of the existing, then any enlargement of the steps to incorporate more leg room and better sight lines, would, necessarily involve fewer seats would it not? Like I say, that goes against the grain.

According to this article we actually have already obtained planning permission for the South Stand extension back in 2009, presumably for the World Cup failed bid? Maybe the permission lapsed? The article also states that we have planning permission for the Kop extension, which we know is still current. Was the Kop extension re-submitted?

Sorry if this has been mentioned before on the 16 pages, I've not read every article.

I think you mean 'anyone who isn't satisfied with the outcome should go to a business class and learn about how businesses remain solvent. Lesson 1. There's no fucking magic money tree. Lesson 2. Don't borrow more than you can afford to pay back.

I think Ricky is working hand in hand with the club. His plans tonight for the BLUT (good luck by the way) is the thin edge of the wedge by the club to move the supporters from the Kop onto the Bramall Lane end.

Away support will be given a section of the totally under utilised Family Stand and the kop will be closed, totally dismantled and re-built.

If this is not the club's intention then I suggest it should be.

Job's a good 'un.

I thought it had been established that the existing kop won't be completely dismantled but extended beyond the existing, with a new internal concourse to be constructed where the existing external concrete concourse is.

I imagine it shall be called something like

الملعب السعودي شيفيلد

I should have thought ? ;) after all, it's much more attractive than the letraset on the renderings.

The kop extension was resubmitted in 2015

Cheers for info. I reckon this will happen sooner rather than later, but probably will depend on how we are doing this season. McCabe did start the away end extension and roof refurbishment during the promotion season, when promotion was far from achieved.

It will cost peanuts,

That's all right then and we don't need to do any finacnial planning or worst case analyiss.

Just a quick rummage down the back of the Copthorne settees and we'll have enough. If we were a bit short, we could always give the money tree another shake....

For the "football" fans among you who look at other clubs.

Palace have just announced the building of a new main stand - cost is £100M - just ONE stand adding an extra 8K seats.

Doubt Palace have a massive prawn sandwich brigade, but if we have any intention of making and then staying in the Premier League, the SS needs doing first followed by giving our kopites more than just a bolted on lego extension on top of what is a bucket load of concrete on top of an existing earth mound.

Proper facilities to take the club forward - not backwards.

When proper finances are available - FFS, do it properly.

UTB
That’s Palace who get £100,000,000 a year in sky money alone?

Spending someone else’s millions under the guise of “forward planning” is very easy, isn’t it?

It's even easier spending it on infrastructure rather than players as you can chuck in words like 'payback'.

If you are spunking it on players you ALWAYS have to use the word 'investment', even though it is nothing like the dictionary definition. I suppose 'gamble' or 'punt' doesn't sound very well thought through.

Fans want modernised stadium

McCabe modernises stadium

McCabe puts rent up

Fans appalled and in uproar
You don’t need a crystal ball, do you?

I think the general idea is that someone else spends their millions, and in return fans call it “forward planning”.

Yes, payback. Imagine the untapped resource of 2,000 extra people and the chance that the will buy a pie, 23 time’s a year.

Just seen the plans united have submitted and the images on look north, it looks awesome.

Well with all the money he's made from us yadda yadda yadda....

That's the same as 'investing' in stocks and shares. Or paying into a pension scheme for 35 years and finding that a large chunk of the growth has been taken by the fund managers. 'Invest' is just a word that can mean anything you want.

Like 'I've invested a lot of time into this relationship' or 'I'm investing in a new car'. But it usually means some sort of gamble.

Also the corner building is where the media centre will be on match day.
Sky tv and the radio commenters, sports reporters etc will be sat in the warmth behind a glass panel with a fantastic view of the pitch. On non match days the media centre can be used for conference centres and office space.

Hope not
