What's unusual is Wilders apparent willingness to put this in the public domain. Not the normal "we are actively looking at situations with a view to getting bodies through the door of the right calibre / Until the player puts on the Blades shirt ........"

I have to ask myself why might this be ?

UTB

and what do you tell yourself

The more I think about this, the stranger it is.

I'm pretty sure we couldn't match his wages, so why are we bidding?

My current theory is to give Fleck a kick up the bum as he's been a bit off in pre-season.

He's told us he's made bids for Leanord and Holmes, nothing unusual in this.

I think it's highly unusual. Holmes and Leonard (and Lenny 2 at Blackburn) had already been announced at the other end. His usual response is "You can throw names at me Gidds but I'm saying nothing...". Odd that it's always Gidds...

You really can't be serious Robbie? Managers really haven't the time to fuck about like that and it just wouldn't be Tuftylike. People really ought to have a think about these "ulterior motive" theories. There was no magic bullet. The moon landing happened and Elvis is dead.

It's a genuine offer. The club are raising the bar, I think. We're in for a very interesting few weeks.

Nail on head.

Leaked at other clubs end. Why so keen to alert the world of our interest from our end ? It's a departure from the norm.

The Spanish accountant doesn't get everything right but I've a feeling we have an exciting run-in to Jim White Day ahead...

He plays centre half these days.

But are the club raising the wage structure, because I'd be shocked if a player Wolves paid £2.5 million for isn't earning more than we can currently pay him.

Me too, but it looks that way. Clubs do their homework before making offers (well certainly good clubs do, and Tufty and his team are no mugs) and have a very good idea of what's what. Agents make sure of that. You don't have to tap a player up personally these days to to know whether he's interested in the move and what sort of dosh he'd accept.

None of that means it will happen of course, but we can afford, in my view, to watch this space with interest rather than cynicism, however much the latter may have been justified in the past.

Maybe one of the reasons he wants out of Wolves? Wants to play midfield?

I think this would be our only chance of signing him, but it would mean us changing our system as he'd have to start.

Saying that, we've not got a guaranteed starter in the AMC role (between Carruthers, Duffy and Brooks). Could be an opportunity to push Coutts or Fleck further forward and be more solid in midfield.

My concern is that Wilder has made a point on several occasions that he didn't want some players way outside the pay scale as he thought it bred unrest (nods towards the Pork).

Apart from Brayford who is an historical anomaly that we're probably trying to rectify, I think only Sharp will be well above of the new pay scale and he justifies it by being a prolific goal scorer and club captain. Are the likes of Fleck and Coutts and other better player for instance going to just shrug it off if we bring in a player on 3 times their salary especially after we've banged on about not breaking our wage cap so many times? I understand that we may get around it by means of a signing on fee, but you can bet that it wouldn't be long before others found out.

Maybe I read it too deep, it's something that we will have to do at this level and it's great to see us showing ambition (if true), but I believe we've got something good going for us and wouldn't like to see it start to wain. UTB.

We know Tufty Fluffytail is nothing if not flexible. He has a remarkable instinct for knowing when to change players, formations and tactics. Not only from game to game but during matches. I can't think of many managers with that ability.

I think he won't rest until he has options all over the pitch and has players for all seasons and all situations.

We have, I think, to plug into a new way of thinking; beyond a rigid idea of "our formation" and "our best eleven". I'm beginning to realise that Tuftyball is an 18 man game...

Fascinating stuff.

Reeks of it mate!

Absolutely no doubt. It thinks it's clever with it's constant references to the Pigs and ex-Pigs and sliding in the odd (pork) "sausage".

It fails to realise that the vast majority on here have a brain cell or two more than it has. No great achievement, of course.

As Harry Enfield might say: "I saw you coming...".

I have. It's a Pig.

It's a Pig. A snorting, oinking, filthy, smelly Pig, on loan from the Rust Bucket.
You lot are laughable. Played football manager for a couple years and think you know what goes on behind closed doors. Even wilder would laugh at your pathetic reasoning behind decisions.

Batth played for us on loan before the pigs you clown! Shows what you know!

Pinch mate, have you been visited by 3 Christmas ghosts during the night or something?

It's just I find you speaking an abnormally high amount of sense lately...

Thank you very much. I'm trying my best...

We've had a good deal of common sense contributions lately, punctuated by agenda-fuelled bollocks but they "ain't going away no time soon". Also many Blades are realising they can finally shake off the BIC, contrary to all their natural instincts. We've got a bloody good team; an outstanding manager (I know...I know) and I believe (euphemism for think wishfully) that we're about to see the manager backed, not spectacularly but meaningfully.

Good times; Better to come.

❤️⚔️.

Should never consider playing Coutts further forward. Leave him where he is.

To me a midfield 3 of Coady, Fleck and Coutts would be too defensive, especially at the Lane. But it might be ok in certain away matches.

It would be better to pick between the 3 for the 2 starting places. I'd go with Coady and Fleck personally.

We're talking about an established Championship player who would likely cost a few million, he's obviously going to be on more money than players who have spent the last few years in League One. Surely players would understand that?

Unless we increase our wage bill, we will always struggle to attract players that are better than what we currently have.

More I think about this signing, the more hopeful I am that it doesn't come off.

Fleck & Coutts are superb in the middle of the park. Disrupting that would be bonkers and we have cover in Lundstrum.
