We've only won Division Three...

I know where the OP is coming from, this is the first time I can remember us being lower than the Championship so it's more relief at getting out of this crap League than wild celebrations.

The other thing is that Coventry, Wimbledon, Portsmouth, Wigan, Luton, Forest, Wednesday, Leicester, Blackburn, Bolton, Middlesbrough, Birmingham and Swansea have all won either the Premier League, FA Cup or League Cup (some more than one) in the last 30 years. It's pretty pathetic that a club like ours can't even make a final!

We should be achieving more and at times we have a very small time attitude. Unfortunately the fans can be as guilty of having this attitude as those running the club.

You need lows to appreciate the highs.

Jeez we've had enough of them!

I'm 59. Never seen em win at Wembley, never won a cup FFS. But this season it has been outstanding. What really makes it for me 100 points, 100 frigging points

F A N T A S T I C !

We're coming for you, we're coming for you-ou
Sheffield Wednesday, we're coming for you.

At the risk of pissing on everyone's chips and making myself as popular as Jimmy Saville at a kids party, I'm starting to wonder when it will stop.

I'm mostly worried about the players (and Wilder) thinking they've achieved something insurmountable. It's Division Three. We should have been out of here a long time ago. If we rest on our laurels, we'll be back her in no time.

I'd like to see them coming out saying, the real work starts now etc

Right, I'm off to fire flares and smoke bombs into the local nursery school...

It's better than the 4th Division though, small steps.

You expecting to see Sheffield United lift a lot of trophies in your lifetime?

With regards to the op, hardly a w***ers post as some might be claiming. I hope this season isn't the height of SUFC's ambition. I've just heard Wilder on television and it sounded as though this is only the start as far as he's concerned.

Everything about this season has been brilliant, I've never known us boss a division like this before, even in the 4th and it's only right that we should all be celebrating, but at the end of the day it is only the 3rd tier. On Sunday Gary Sinclair waffled on about this being what we've all been waiting for, I hope he meant getting out of this tin pot division, a division SUFC should be embarrassed to be in for 6 seasons, but I suspect he meant winning the 3rd division title, winning any kind of pot. The Blades winning something like the FA Cup is something that we all should be waiting to celebrate.

We've all had a great season but this should only be classed as the start. We'll it should be for any Blades with any proper sense of ambition.

I'm nearly 44 and have been watching us since 1981.

With hand on heart I'm struggling to think of many seasons I've felt this good about us. 1988/89 to 93/94 will be hard to beat for me because I entered my teens genuinely believing we were just a big lower league team who I wouldn't see reach the top flight.

2003 was a great ride but ultimately fruitless and regretful.

My son was born 4 days after we clinched promotion to the Premiership in 2006 and whether that took some focus off our promotion in hindsight who knows. I certainly didn't think so at the time, it seemed like the best week I'd ever experience in my life.

It will remain so for becoming a father for the first time but I honestly think in Blades terms this season tops that promotion for sheer pride, passion and enjoyment.

Not only have we pissed the league but we've done it in a style I've not witnessed.

Wilder has shown that honesty respect and a belief in team spirit can take you places you didn't think were possible. Couple them with an ethos and desire to go forward, and a proactive tactical nouse and you've got a proper manager that now makes me feel much better about my criticism of Clough's lack of ambition, when I honestly thought we should be achieving get more quicker.

This team and staff deserve every beer and plaudits.

Sorry I've gone on but I fucking love this management and team for the way they've given us all our club back.

Part of celebrating is a way of showing appreciation for the effort made to achieve success. Doing it openly with the fans has just enhanced the bond between the two. Isn't there always more that wants doing no matter what league we're in?

Who amongst us doesn't feel that CW and AK will be focused and determined when the time comes?

Perhaps the OP is influenced by the much reported criticism of Leicester and how they went over the top with their celebrations at the end of last season. Many pundits have said that the excessive celebrations contributed to the players thinking they were Billy Big Bollocks and not turning up this season.

On the basis that our ultimate ambition is to get into the PL we've only achieved part one of that; we've passed our GCSEs, now we've got A levels and then a degree.

Once they get back for the pre-season, a line needs to be drawn under this season and the players have to forget about it and look ahead. I'm sure they're all aware of this.

We've only won Division Three...

yes , but man city didnt win it
neither did Leeds
or our massive neighbours, they didnt win it
or Southampton
Forest couldnt win it, 2 european cup finalists there couldnt win it
getting the gist
just saying its shit doesnt mean it is , some big clubs cant win it , but we did
and with 100 points

It isn't Chris Wilder's, Sharp's, Basham's, Duffy's etc. aim to get to the premiership.
They had one goal and they've absolutely smashed it with an excess of class, quality and team spirit that should make us all proud.
We will NEVER see a team like this again.

Being given charge of a club that just finished 11th in league 1 and having to bring in a squad full of players on a reduced budget, I'm sure he wasn't thinking about the Premier League.
His dream will have been promotion this season and being on the town hall balcony like he said in his pissed up ramble on radio sheff.

He's correct though in his summing up of the poster

And there's no need to stick your oar in, thank you very much. An infraction was issued for the original personal abuse before the post was edited - the original post shows in my quoting.

I assume you don't agree to the extent that you would like one too?

As for the rest of the thread, to put winning the third division into some context:

My Nannan first started going to games in 1948. In terms of the football pyramid, this is the best thing she has ever seen us win.

Otherwise it's a few County Cup wins and the fourth division title.

Much better put than my OP!!

This is just the start. No one dreams of leading Sheffield United to the third division title, we dream of winning a cup, playing in the PL, challenging for Europe. They're dreams.
CW will already have a plan to take us forward next season and beyond.

Accepting its the 3rd Tier........ we have actually won the respective league only 4 times in our history , on average once every 32 years ... on that basis worth celebrating

You can only beat what's in front of you, in our case, 23 shit clubs. Next season becomes more difficult when we have 23 (well 21) better clubs. Yes promotion to the Premier League is going to be better than promotion to the Championship but we've been in this league for so long now that we'd given up hope of it happening.

Does this mean if we win the title next season we shouldn't celebrate because we've not won the Premier League? o_O

We should be achieving more and at times we have a very small time attitude. Unfortunately the fans can be as guilty of having this attitude as those running the club.

We have over-achieved in terms of cup runs/success. Since 1993, we have played in 4 FA Cup Semi Finals and 2 League cup semi finals despite only being in the top flight for 3 years.

Go on then, name another club outside of the top flight to make 5 semi finals (not counting 1993 as we were top flight)?

I'd agree that in terms of league status, we have massively under-achieved given the size of the club, history, stadium and fan base. To languish in the 3rd tier for 6 years is disgraceful.

Sigh.

We've not just won it, we've absolutely murdered it and in the process given a glimpse of the ambition and desire in this current, hard working and committed team of players and staff.

For me the extended celebrations are 50% "Thank fuck we're finally out of this league" and 50% "Look how far we've come and can go in the space of one season. Have I got a stonk on? Yes, I certainly have."

I'd swap all those for a cup win or even a final to be honest! When you start talking cup finalist, you can add Cardiff, Millwall, Hull, Stoke, Southampton, Sunderland, Palace, Oldham, Bradford and Tranmere to that list. Again, some of them have reached more than 1!

Yes, cup Semi-Finals are great at the time, but let's be honest who remembers or cares about a Semi-Finalist? It's big achievement for a small club, it's nothing to brag about for a club of our size.

I tend to fire mine at the selfish fuckers who block the drive when picking their kids up ;)
