Update from OS:

Pre-season plans
Posted on: Mon 09 Jun 2008

The Blades will embark on a European tour next month to kick-off the pre-season preparations.

Kevin Blackwell takes his squad to Hungary, Belgium and the Netherlands as he gears up for a Championship challenge.

United will again face Hungarian sister club Ferencvaros in Budapest on Monday 14th July before nipping over the border to Belgium to face RKC Genk on Wednesday 16th July.

Before returning to British shores, United travel to the Netherlands to take on Helmond Sport on Saturday 19th July. Helmond currently play in the second tier of the Dutch League.

The Blades have also confirmed the remainder of the pre-season matches, as boss Blackwell looks to ready his side ahead of the Championship season, which starts on Saturday 9th August.

United also face three testing away fixtures within a week against two sides from League One and one from League Two in the shape of Scunthorpe United, Huddersfield Town and Bury.

Some first-team players will then play in games against local non-league sides with Stocksbridge Park Steels, Sheffield FC, Mansfield Town and Alfreton Town being the respective opposition.

A youthful Blades second string have lined up three matches against Hall Road Rangers, Stamford, Matlock Town and Bradford Park Avenue, all of the aforementioned fixtures are away from Bramall Lane.

Hungary and Belgium are out for being on holiday and lack of holidays left.

Holland is doable if we can find a cost effective way of getting there that doesn't mean we have to travel through the night and sleep in the car :D

Ferries = nope. Travelling out the Friday night is fine but we wouldn't get back until 08:00 on Monday morning coming back. No good.

Eurotunnel = Travelling South to go North. It would mean staying either down South on the Friday night or checking in late somewhere in France.

Flying = Only Stanstead have flights to Eindhoven. Next nearest airport is Dusseldorf... but how do we then get into Holland?

Racing Genk and Helmond Sport

In Spain at the moment, and did read that the Blades will play in Belgium (july 16th) and the Netherlands )july 19th).
The place I live is around 40 miles from both places, so lucky me...
If anyone wants to come over and want some things arranged or need some information just sent me an email (use my website) or let it know here...

Up the Blades

(will be back at june 18th)

I'm sure some members would be pleased to have your advice :)

Like I said HERE the match in Helmond is the only one we could make but we're having real difficulties with the timing of transport :)

You enjoy your holidays!

you putting up lodging blades fans for a few nights then :D

It s possible to go in Holland by train, there is a good connection between dusseldorf and venlo. For me it s possible to host some people at my appartment. When I go to Sheffield I always fly from Eindhoven to Stansted and take National Express to Sheffield. Will write more about possibillities when I am home wednesdaynight.

Thread to cover on-topic discussion of the matches in:

14/07/2008 – Ferencváros, Hungary
16/07/2008 – KRC Genk, Belgium
19/07/2008 – Helmond Sport, The Netherlands

Got my Genk trip sorted :D

We expect a report back then young Daz :D

If any, Holland will be the one we get to.

So... anyone fancying the trip to Hungary and we've got all three covered? :D

Will try my best for you... will be taking loads of photo's of the ground and the match report depends how pissed I am at the time! :o

Staying in Brussels the night after too which should be a laugh, hoping to visit a couple of other grounds during ther day there (Anderlecht and the Belgian national stadium will be amazing!)

Wanted to go to Hungary but as with Holland, work holidays suggest otherwise :(

Grand Place! Grand Place! So many bars, so many beers, so few memories of what happened that night :D

Aye, Belgium would've been my first choice but being midweek, I've got no more hols left at work.

Been looking at flights to Dusseldorf this afternoon... they range from £300 - £1500 return for the two of us!

Will be back tomorrownight....think it s better to fly to Amsterdam and then use a special railway discountcard, can give you more detail when I am back home, tomorrownight. Amsterdam Airport to Eindhoven/Helmond or my place is around 2.30 hours by train, you can sleep at my place or I can have a look for reasonable priced hotels...

Cheers dutchblade :) I shall investigate that alternative.

Will do the best I can. I've always wanted to report United matches so it will be a bit of fun from a personal point of view too :D

I've heard it's excellent, I'm really looking forward to it.

I would've preferred work wise to do the two weekend games, but I figured that we will go to Hungary again and I have actually been to Holland before so I thought Belgium would be the best for a change of scenery.

Christ  I'm on the Eurostar from St Pancras to Brussels is £90 and takes 2 hours. Bargain really.

Do we know the KO time for the 19th july game?

Also any cheap flights to said destination?

Thanks

No :)

Also any cheap flights to said destination?

And again, no :)

It took me a lot of looking round to find flights at about £300. I'd suggest you sit and go through all the "cheap" ones and find the best option for you (i.e. Leeds/Manchester/East Midlands to Schipol/Dusseldorf)

i can get the week off. just need someone to go to all 3 with me :D

sounds like you have been playing with baby cows too much.

But Sheff United will play against another Belgian team at july 16th, KSV Tienen, second division Belgium, kick off 7:30 PM (belgian time)

There you go Daz, all is not lost :)

Does anyone know in what hotel Sheffield United will stay and where they train during their stay in Belgium/Holland? Would like to visit both and make some interviews/pictures and still have to hand Morgs his Dutchblades Player of the Year 2007 award.....
