On the George Long note: I really don't understand what the morons who ironically cheer him claiming the ball are hoping to achieve. I've said it before and I'll say it again that my personal view is that GL will make a very good goalkeeper but I'm not sure that can happen at the Lane.

You're absolutely right there. He's a decent keeper, but when your own fans are taking the piss it makes you wonder why he even bothers staying around... especially when he Neil Collins in front of him

Aaron was training yesterday and knew nothing about Bournemouth until knilly called him into the office and said sheffield have accepted an offer from Bournemouth. At that point everything changed. Aaron has loved every minute at sheffield! I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone at united on his behalf and to all who have spoken on s24su about him. UTB!!

So this means Ramsdale did not ask for a transfer but United accepted a bid for him and then told him he could go.

I find that disappointing on the club's part as the player was apparently putting no pressure on them for a move.

Whatever people's personal views of a goalkeeper are (and I'm not a fan of Long), they are the last players on the pitch that a fan should jeer if they want their team to get something out of a game. They have more time than other players to consider the crowd's mood, and know that one mistake will often lead to a goal.

Do they really think it'll settle them down and they'll start catching the ball cleaner and up their game? Talk about cutting your throat to spite your face, it makes me cringe!

It's desperately disappointing news, this is.
It just consolidates the view that United will swim around in the lower leagues for some time yet.
Not simply because of Ramsdale....he wouldn't be dislodging Moores any time soon but it just reinforces the selling strategy United have.

He doesn't have to "put pressure on for a move".

His agent simply has to say "we're not signing another contract now, we'll look at our options in the summer".

You can't tie every promising youngster, because that's all he is, to a long contract in the hope that they'll become good.

Nowt to do with the club, the board or the manager, it's just the way it is in real life.

As I've already said Bolton gave him away before we picked him up.

Maybe someone at the club should be getting credit for having better judgement than Bolton.

What happens next? Only time will tell but we are a professional football club, not a professional gambling business.

Its a tough one. DCL, Che Adams and now Ramsdale weren't putting pressure on the club to move, but with interest, the club will have a value for NOW. Its not to say that we couldn't get more in the summer, but it frees up positions and money with the summer in mind.

Selling young, fringe players is a little bit daft on one hand, but on the other it means that we earn money fairly easily.

I hope that this policy of selling young talent is not something we'll continue if we go up, but if its relatively good money for a fringe player, is it a bad thing? Not sure myself.

we have to think more short term to get out of this poxy division. it is a shame ramsdale was forced to leave but if we put the money to good use and achieve promotion then it would be worth it. however considering our clubs recent history it's a big if!
on the upside, when the bubble finally bursts at bournemouth (as it always does with these kind of clubs) we can always buy him back again

I see your point.

Essentially the club decided the money would be good now, and the only downside is if Moore is injured.

Still a bit disappointed. 3 good young players sold off in six months. I hope we have bought well.

I can't see this as anything other than a bad thing. Money should not come into it - if you have a good prospect you should keep him.

Of course booing George Long is wrong. Booing any of your own players is wrong. I've never booed any of our players, ever. Sure. I've slagged them off amongst friends, fellow fans and on forums but never at the game.

However, this doesn't change one thing about Long. He's rubbish. He has cost us goals and cost us points. In his his case though he's never been solely responsible as half the rest of the team was rubbish too, so you could never put the blame entirely upon him.

But think about this. During that season, Simmonson cost us at least 10 points by my reckoning, entirely by himself. We had a good team that season and would have gone up with or without Evans for those last few games. We would have been well clear with Charlton. The reason we didn't was because we had a shit goalie. Evans going down was purely a smokescreen.

Think about this. Don't let sentiment cloud your judgement regarding Long.

Good luck to the lad. How many on here would love to sign for a Premiership club?

We might see an upturn in form from Moore now that Aaron isn't here pushing for his spot. It is also VERY important that fans get off Moore's back now. The last thing we need is to shatter his confidence like we succeeded in doing with George Long.

And when your Billions are propping up the club, i'll agree.

If it means that we were able to manoeuvre to say, bring Harry Chapman back, then its not a bad deal.

The club have to think long term, but also for today.... which when you look at this season, we're in the middle of promotion push and George Long is a perfectly decent back up for Moore.

Are you sure the club didn't offer him a good contract recently?

So signing first teamers from our L1 rivals and loans from the division above and selling a young reserve keeper who has only played one game consolidates our position in the lower leagues? Can't see it. Our strategy in this window is to get out of this division and finish the job we've started. Can't see Ramsdale staying or going affecting that manifestly.

well said gray some of our fans really are idiotic morons weve so many apathectic followers just get behind all the players or we will be in this shit pub league for years

Which source has 800k come from? Sky sports said at least 1mill with add ons?

My point is that some are upset at the fee received not being enough but no one outside the clubs knows the fee. How many "rumours and leaks" on here have any substance? Has Ched come back or have we signed Morsey or Dan Burn yet.
Fair point, but surely sky suggesting it is 1mill plus add ons is (however slightly) more reputable than me just saying it is 800k?

We may as well close the academy. Complete waste of time and money

Didn't we signed him after being released by Bolton 18 months ago? Does that class as coming through the academy?

At the end of the day, if its allowed us to keep our 1st team players and add 1 or 2 more to help get out of this chuffin division, I'm all for the sale.
