In this day and age, when championships are spending £5mil + on average players, how do we only get £1 mil for a 19 year old with a lot of potential

We get a the footballing equivalent of a fiver for a player but as always "it's a great bit of business".

Probably the best we could've hoped for given the contractual situation. Just got to hope the clauses are all in order: sell on, PL appearances, England youth caps, England senior caps. This kid has the potential to go further than any Blades youth keeper I've seen. Lets hope the club learns from this situation and gets the good ones tied down. Sell when they have two or three years left, if needs must.
"Lets hope the club learns...". How many times has this been said before?

It is v difficult to see how good someone is going to be in 2 - 3 years time and subsequently difficult to award long term contracts unless we want too many players on our books.
Brooks was released by Man City as he was too small, yes he is a v good player with lots ofpotential, but his influence on matches had grown enormously as a result of him improving in stature and strength, if that were not to be the case he would not be as good as he is.
Life in retrospect is a doddle

I don't know but i'll bet my bottom dollar the actual fee will be £undisclosed p.

If its 1m than I think that's a very poor deal for a player of undoubted potential that may well have been our number one next season. That said, as you said we'll never know the real fee will we?

Doesn't seem that long ago when long was considered a good prospect, now? People want him out, Ramsdale in 18/24 months? Who knows, I certainly dont, however I will be disappointed if he gies.

If the club let a promising young English gaolkeeper (hard to find these days) go for £1m then they want fuckin'! Pocket change in the prem this day and age!

Big problem is that we spend X000's developing a player via the academy only to flog em at the first offer.

Why not close the stupid thing and spend the x000's on first team wages?

Worth noting that Kevin McCabe has publically stated that the academy has been a profit making venture, as of May 2016, at the meet the chairman night at Bramall Lane. Also worth noting that Mr Binnion and McCabe stated that the club was actively targeting older recruits who hadn't made it at other elite academies (see Ramsdale, Brookes, Whitemen etc) and were willing to pay fees (see Adams, Kirmani Smith, Horatio Hirst) to secure those who were signed on pro deals in non league etc. The sales of Adams and Ramsdale, I would suggest, show the continued profitability of the academy post Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP). I've been worried about this as some of you are possibly aware.
Oh, and we've also sold DCL, who came through the traditional pathway.

...that wage bill won't come down on its own :o

Don't let the contract situation get like that in the first place.

The sooner we get out of this shithole of a division and stop allowing other clubs to fuck us over for our players the better.

I'd agree with the second piece but it is really hard with the first, at that age, you don't know if their development will stall - you can't give our potential 3rd goalie a bumper deal and similarly, him and his agent won't tie themselves down anymore if they think there is chance of offers at a higher level. Especially difficult for a 'keeper where there is one place on the team and no opportunity from the bench.

Eastwood was on loan at Mickleover Sports, but doesn't seem to have played the last few games. Has he been brought back? How does he compare to the others mentioned above, Willis, Long, Ramsdale?
Their website has an article from mid January confirming they've brought in another keeper and Eastwood has returned to us.

Cannot believe we've let him go, he's clearly 2nd choice in front of long, fuckin awful business blades, my worry now is what if something happens to moore and we have to turn to good old george?

We get buggered on transfer deals regardless of who the player is and their contract situation.

Yet we look at Charlton get a good deal for one of their young players and we make excuses for it. We class our players as lesser and any shit deal will do that we should be thankful for.

Getting fucking sick of it to be honest.

£1.25m - that's our sale for this year done then. :)

Academies - what's the point in those things again?

Reserve goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has joined Premiership Bournemouth for an undisclosed fee.

Boss Chris Wilder explained: "There's been interest in Aaron for quite a while and despite rejecting smaller offers, this bid was too good to turn down. The bid exceeded the club's valuation.

"We are in the game of winning football matches and being a sustainable business - as we stand Aaron's transfer does not affect our challenge for promotion. Simon Moore is in possession of the goalkeeper's shirt at the moment and in George Long and Jake Eastwood we have adequate cover.

"A number of discussions have taken place since the substantial bid was submitted and we felt agreeing to the sale is the best decision for the club in terms of the initial fee and the associated add-ons. Also, it is opportunity for Aaron that we cannot deny him and we wish him well for the future."

Ramsdale, 18, who has progressed through United's U18s and U23s squads having joined the Blades from Bolton Wanderers, has featured twice this season, both appearances coming in the Emirates FA Cup.

It has been a productive and busy transfer window at Bramall Lane. Samir Carruthers, Daniel Lafferty and James Hanson have penned permanent contracts with United, whilst Ethan Ebanks-Landell, Joe Riley, Jay O'Shea and Harry Chapman will be with the club until the end of the season on loan deals. Meanwhile, Ramsdale's departure sees him join Ben Whiteman (loan) and James Wallace (contract terminated) in leaving the Lane.

I know what you are saying but by all accounts Eastwood has really come on this season. Could see him being a decent back up.
