Good point and Jags isn;t the only overated player we've had at BDTBL

Currie - soft southern wanker
Deane - bandy legged Leeds scum
Hodges - pie muncher
Pesch - dwarf married to a big nosed bitch
Brown - aggressive no talent toerag
Woodward - grey haired old man who could only just about cross a ball
Hockey - beardy weirdy
Cockerill - gangly loser
Whitehouse - local talentless ruffian
Bradshaw - ditto
Ward - ditto
Morgan - ditto
Walker - ditto
Salmons - ditto
Sharp - ditto plus glory hunting armband thief
Monty - ask Pinchy
Beagrie - talentless smoggie

Have I missed anybody?

Enough there to leave you dwelling in the third. :p

I cannot believe what I am reading from some so-called Blades.

Jagielka, a guy who played over 250 times for our club and was part of some of the most iconic moments in recent SUFC history, is being accused of deliberately giving away a penalty that would not only relegate the team that gave him his big chance in the game but also relegate his friends (Tonge, Montgomery, Morgan, Paddy) and would likely lead to the sacking of the man who gave him that break?

Jagielka, a guy who, whilst not a supporter of the club growing up, loved the club and has never ever said a bad word about it, deliberately cost us our chance of surivival just because it would make it easier for him to go to another team?

Jagielka, a guy so selfless that he was willing to go in goal and play anywhere on the pitch if needed, decided in the split second that ball came into the box - not even halfway through the game, I add - that he would gift Wigan a penalty because it would definitely relegate us?

Get a f*****g grip. Jagielka is one of the top five players we've had in the 30+ years I've followed United and he has gone on to do us proud since he moved on. He gave us moments like that Leeds wonder goal, the Middlesbrough goal, countless last-ditch blocks and tackles to save points and some of our supporters want to accuse him of deliberately relegating the club. FFS. There really are some people in the world bitter at people who go on and make a success of their lives aren't there? To suggest that Jags wasn't in despair at our relegation is downright stupid, to suggest he deliberately caused it to engineer a move is downright disrespectful and a disgrace. I never saw a less than 100% committed Jagielka and I didn't see one that day either.

For the record, I wouldn't sign him either but not for such idiotic reasons as some of those given on this thread.

I've not read comments saying he deliberately relegated us?

I supported the theory about intentional handball, what else could he have been up to?
So I thought what could it possibly have been and came up with this:
He jumped to clear the cross but realised he was badly out of position and the ball was way over his head, so instead of letting those behind him see the ball he puts his arms up to block their view with the intention of moving them before the ball gets here. A push from behind distracts him and sends him toward the ball -handball.
Are you Bergen Blade in disguise? all we need is some still shots;)

No, neither have I. But why miss the opportunity for pious Bladey claptrap about a fucking Everton player? Why has this topic appeared at all? He's nothing to do with us, hasn't given us a thought since the day he left, and (Please Pele) won't ever be seen at The Lane again. He's the disrespectful one, not least never once condescending to explain his stupidity.

Fuck the Everton player.

Apart from the time he turned up to the 125 Dinner at Ponds Forge.

Upon request. He's never been back voluntarily and never will. Everton player; nothing to do with our club. Fuck him.

You get players who do come back at watch the team or clearly have an affinity with the club after they leave. Bob Booker, Kevin Gage, Alan Kelly, Agana (loads more of Harrys lads).

I'm sure that Jags has a affinity with the club to be fair.

Not just Bassett's. Plenty of Harris lads, Len, Tony, Ted. Far better footballers but the Bassett generation aren't interested.

I'm going to say 'no' to this, he's 35 at the start of next season and a big feature of his game was his leg speed. Leave him as a happy(ish) memory.

Yes but a player that has played in a top 10 premiership team for the last 10yrs and captained his country on numerous occasions, is still better than most CBs in the championship.

Google 'Paul McGrath'

Like a lot of others leave him in the past let's move on.

He's no Paul McGrath.

I dont think we need any more ex players in returning to the club for one more last pay off bladey bladeness please.

Being fat was his claim to fame.
The list is closed.
I think he was also revered as the best keeper at the time, although being as charging a keeper was perfectly legitimate, I think his 'physique' certainly helped.

He is one of the 'icons' chosen on the S24SU wallpaper too!

Personally I think George Utley, Fred Priest and Fred Tunstall could also claim to be Blade Legends but I suppose Bert's got to draw the line somewhere.

Never miss the chance to get a dig in at 'Arry, eh Pinchy? Who'd have seen that coming, in a thread about Jags?

I'll give you Badger, but TC only comes back because he's paid. My daughter works for Compass and confirms he is a miserable old git and a right royal pain in the arse. 'Never meet your heroes' and all that.

I agree with that. I bet she can't tell you what the Everton player's like, though...

Rather depends which country you've captained. In his case it's third raters 'England'.

ave you heard yourselves he was a Blade through and through loved the club and the fans. Dont think it would be a good idea to come back but COME ON UTB

Upon request. He's never been back voluntarily and never will. Everton player; nothing to do with our club. Fuck him.

So am I right in thinking that regardless of the fact he was a very good player for us who had a massive hand in getting us to the Premier League, you’re not a fan because since his departure, he’s not been bladey enough?.........

You wouldn’t have caught Bassett’s lads upsetting you in this way. They’d crawl over broken glass to come back.

He also had a massive hand in getting us relegated.......

The likes of Currie, Woodward obviously. Before that Jones. Then McGrath because he was immense. Dane Whitehouse, probably my all time favourite. Dearden, Brown Badger, Colquhoun. Booker, to me Trusson, Edwards, Geary. Without thinking.

It's a time and place thing but for me, good as he was, not a legend. IMO
Have a like for Mick Trusson. As a kid he was my first Blades idol and I was gutted when I heard we'd flogged him to Rotheram.

Now correct me if I am wrong, but we have members with user names based on Bob Booker, Dane Whitehouse, Nade, Dellas, Peter Ndlovu, Bob Hatton, Alan Hodgkinson, Alan Woodward, Fatty Foulkes, Tony Agana.........I could go on. But no one has ever used Phil Jagielka - this is the correct me if I am wrong bit - what does that say about his legend status? It suggests we see him as someone who fucked off as soon as the going got tough. I do

I see him as a very good player for the blades but of an era where "legend" status is less likely to be achieved as clubs don't retain players the way they used to. Players go and make their millions at a high level when they can. I think the likes of Whitehouse, Le Tissier at Southampton etc. were the last of the breed who stuck with their club through thick and thin regardless of whether they were too good for the level their club was at.

IF we had a couple of young centre halves who could do the running but would learn and develop from him I could understand it. But his positioning and reading of the game were never his best traits, his ability to get back and 100% commitment to his role were.
I can't see what the benefit would be bringing him back it's just over sentimentality, or bladey bladeness whichever you want to call it.

I'd take him back all day long.

Don't buy this deliberate hand ball to get a move to Everton bollocks.

Real experienced player, many yrs in the top division. Leader, could be a future blades manager, who knows.

Fair enough if you wouldn't, but could be a good move. I remember Craig Short being a solid rock in the promotion season to the prem.
maybe this could be the same?
