Jags free to leave Everton at the end of the season?

If it's on a free with 'relatively' low wages would have him back in a heartbeat. Should be good enough to help us stay up for one season, and then move into coaching here if appropiate

That means dropping Jake Wright and that means dropping points. Jags will end up at somewhere like Bournemouth.

No need to drop anyone. Move James Wilson on (with thanks for his goal against Oxford which set things rolling) then Jags can take his place on the bench and work his way into the team like everyone else, happy days :)

The words that come to mind when thinking of Jags are consummate pro. Wouldn't necessarily call him a legend but he was an outstanding player for us for many seasons, formed the heart of the most successful team we've had in the past 20 years and scored some spectacular and important goals along the way, vs Leeds and Boro spring to mind.

How anyone could suggest he'd deliberately do anything to hurt The Blades whilst wearing the shirt is beyond me, it's just not in his character. Even the best players do silly things sometimes, his just sadly happened to be in the most important game of the season, being played out of position.

This is probably not even on the table but as long as his attitude was still bang on i'd have him back in a heartbeat.
I do think our general focus should be on young and talented up and coming players, but it never hurts to have some experience at the back, especially from someone with such close ties to the club.

^^^^ This ^^^

Certainly not alone in making a silly mistake like that...

foxy .. can we have a seperate section for 'ex players rejoining suggestions'.. ??

Put it this way, if he hadn't played for us before and was available for say around 7k a week on a one year contract would most of us want him now?

I suspect so. Not gagging for his return by any means but seems a bit short sighted to think he couldn't benefit us

Virtually every Blade was underwhelmed by the signing of Jake Wright and look at what he's done for us ! Are people seriously suggesting Jags isn't better than Jake ? He could perform exactly the same role next season as Wright has this and with JOC a year older and wiser it could be a good partnership if we play 4 at the back and if we play 3 he'd play he same role as Wright.

I don't doubt that Wilder could get a tune out of Jags but how much is he on at Everton? I would be amazed if it's less than 60k per week. Considering that our wage cap is unlikely to go much above 20 - 25k per week for a little while then he would be taking a huge pay cut. Players have done this for us recently but not by that much.
More likely he will end up somewhere like Burnley or a top end (high paying) Champ club.

This is ridiculous schoolboy fantasy ,he would be an ambitious Signing for a prem club

Some of you don't seem to be aware of the social commodity called money and its vast Importance in society and its evil hold over footbAll

Wake up

Would he fit in a 3? If so with whom?
Wages would be crucial,Wilder will not break ceilings and create resentment or cliques.
Personally I would look for a young, pacy, ambitious defender to smooth the way for one or two of the very, very promising defenders we already have in the academy.

As if people would genuinely not take him back....

Model pro and still in the top 5 English centre backs in the prem and playing for a top 10 side. madness to suggest you'd not take him - Who better for O'Connell to learn from?

It's not that his ability wouldn't add something - it's that it will cost us way over the odds. John Brayford being another example.

We've had a decade of buying overpaid falling stars, kickstarted by Bryan Robson and continued by everyone since until Wilder arrived. Cue a turn around in our fortunes.

To be fair, we have had people who'd not long since won the European Cup playing for us in the second tier so nothing is entirely impossible :)

I don't nessecarily disagree and would quite like a young promising prospect to come through. Bit that I think we've s chance of signing him

But he could provide some vital experience at championship level. Like McGrath or ehiogh

Currently still good enough for top 10 premiership and fans saying no? You having a laugh? Get steadies on and don't let promotion go to your head, we just got out of league 1, the championship is a different beast. Yes please and go back to tradition with a captain centre half leading the team. Sharp has done nothing wrong as captain but won't finish that many games next season.

McGrath's an interesting case in point. Flattered for a short while, which is all everyone remembers. Earned a huge contract, and barely played again. Nobody remembers that, or any of the low paid shit players we signed as a result.

Have you read any of the comments as to why some don't want to sign him?

Was it a huge contract? I thought it was a modest month-to-month deal given he came to us with fitness issues, so we didn't lose out financially when he had to call it a day. If anything I thought that was one of the ones we handled more sensibly.

My memory is that he was on a month to month, and won a longer one as a result.

You may be right – I don't recall the part where it was extended. As I don't think he made it to December it would have had to have been a very early extension, though he'd probably been ever-present till his injury.

Bournemouth are not that desperate .
Bournemouth have Blades legend Simon Francis as their captain and gave Liverpool £15m for bang average Jordon Ibe and £6m for useless left back Brad Smith who was about to be released on a free. Signing Jagielka would hardly be a desperate move by their standards of poor signings.

I'd imagine he'd stay in the Premier League somewhere anyway.
