Oldham fans impressed with Peck in replies:

I think Unsworth has brought a lot of players in this season and it’s taken a while for them to bed in and gel. It’s not the easiest situation to go into and it’s good that he’s starting to impress.

The Gordon loan is getting ridiculous now. Can't get a start in non league. We seem to be dropping the ball with some of these loans. Brunt as well seems to be now more of a bench player. Remember when he was the next big thing and has now had two loan moves as a sub? Not sure how some of these deals are progressing players.
Looking at the team and their bench yesterday it looks like we either didn’t want him to be cup tied or he’s injured. They didn’t even name a full bench.

This is a very good move for him. Thought he may have to drop to L2. Be interesting to see if he makes a mark there.
Why would he have to drop to league 2 playing every match in league 1?

I know they're bottom but hes not going to be the reason for that.

No, but has by all accounts struggled a bit. Let’s not forget he jumped from conference last year to L1 this so it was quite a step up. He may well fair better in a better side of course.

Not sure if he has struggled looking at a few of the comments from FGR that have been posted on here.

I wonder if we can expect more to go out? I guess Brooks and Arblaster are possible candidates, but both are around the first team at the moment and have looked comfortable when called upon. I suppose we may well not risk it, if our injuries continue/we don't bring any cover in.

Interesting that Gordon is back playing with our reserves/u21s today. Possibly just to give him to match sharpness given he's not made the Boreham team for the past few games?

Coulibaly and Osula also turning out.

Mysterious trialist as well!

Just noticed that.

Looks like the right back slot and possibly one we're a little short on at reserve level with Starbuck out at the moment. Would be a big and unnecessary jump for Waldron from the u18s right now.
The secrecy of the trialist may be the reason, but a shame they don't stream games like these. Very interesting line up. Couldn't watch Millwall live, nor the replay of it on SUTV. Then this fixture comes up and they don't bother with a live stream today either. I think it's good that they've got the SUTV people making training videos, etc, but U21 streams should be given for people paying SUTV subscription.

Couldn't agree more. I've asked them numerous times but apparently it's not something they're considering.

The venue changes have made it extremely difficult to get to this season so a stream would be the next best thing but it seems too much effort for them.

Surprised with having Sachdev, Sekiri and Starbuck that we have a trialist at RB.
Maybe today's #2 trialist wasn't trialing for us!!!

Academy moves are a complicated eco system of favours called in and backscratching.

Sheffield United owe Team A a big big favour on account of previous player & loan movements between the two clubs.

Team A would really like to shift Player #2, and quickly, to free up space and money and opportunities as a complicated chain of moves unfurls.

They have Preston, Bolton, Blackpool, Carlisle and Tranmere, etc interested in Player #2. But, no good shop window game to put Player #2 in. No upcoming games, postponements because of the weather, etc. But, they need that shop window. Quickly.

Hey, Sheffield United, you know those things we did and you said you'd help us out somewhere down the track? Well. Now. We see you've got an U21 game Tuesday, stick Player #2 in for us & we'll get ten clubs to come and look at him. Cheers. Nice doing business with you....

I admire your knowledge but really???

I mean I was there today. And I put the yards in. But, I don't know who today's trialist was, nor where he was from, nor who was looking at him. So, not specifically today. But, yes, of course that scenario happens.

More usual is Sheffield United are managed by Manager A. Player #2 is in his 30s, coming back from long term injury and used to play for Manager A. Player #2 and his club want to test him out at a particular level.

If that's true its scandalous.
Would you feel less scandalised if I just pitched it in the abstract?

Scouts from many clubs watch each Academy game. Every player on the pitch is being watched by a host of clubs, including their own. Any player named as a trialist is likely to particularly attract the attention of watching scouts. Because of the suggestion of availability.

Either Utd have ASKED to have a look at him. Or he/his club/his agent have ASKED for him to be looked at. Or some combination thereof. Any player/club/agent will waste no time in explaining to every club in the land ... Player #2 is at York this afts.

Okay I don’t doubt you but what if we said to x club fuck off we don’t owe you any favours. All is fair in love and war and all that

Of course, I'm sure that happens as well. I "believe" the Utd Scout who recommended and championed Iliman (and Ta'shae Andell-Gibbons as well) had a tough time convincing the Utd hierarchy. As Iliman didn't fit the model - background, club history, development path, etc. He had to press Iliman into a number of games & teams & trials so that the Utd hierarchy could look at him around their own busy schedules. He was trialing FOR United, but not playing in a United team at the time. That's just normal...

Didnt it come down to deciding who to keep on, Iliman or TAG, and they eventually went with Iliman? TAG appears to have dropped down to local London leagues iirc

Manchester City have a kid who won't make it. But, they understandably want to maintain a reputation for looking after their not quite kids. They think he might have a shot at an Academy at a L1/L2 club. They get their guy who got the McAtee & Doyle loans over the line to phone The Lane and say - look it's ALL GOOD, I see McAtee is really finding his stride - but, can you help us out and stick Player #2 in at York, by all means have a look at him yourself, but we've got some others who want a look, that McAtee hey, good player for you. That's not a scandal is it?

JOC? Wishful thinking.
JOC wouldn’t be a trialist and those in attendance would’ve outed him so to speak in a heartbeat everyone’s going to know who he is when he’s warming up.

Also why would the club keep it a secret I’d imagine the clubs social media would be all over a much beloved player returning to competitive action.

Carrier Bag Firm been up all night with the facial recognition software and the photos taken at the game. Likelihood and consensus is it's probably a right back we're having a look at with the possibility of signing.
