Robson: Absolute disaster. Biggest budget given to any manager we’ve had, completely screwed it up. Never looked or sounded bothered. I doubt he was.
Blackwell: Did well to mop up Robsons mess, turning a relegation scrap into an unlikely play off push. Fully deserved a crack full time. Then got cautious- still made the play off final. Should have walked after that. Had his squad torn apart and budget slashed and things went downhill (further). Should have gone in the summer. Sacked stupidly after a couple of games- it would have been awful to watch, but I still say we would've finished mid-table with him.
Speed: Wasnt in charge long enough to form a proper opinion. Think his contacts would have brought a couple of big loans (Andy Reid, etc) to stave of relegation.
Adams: Pathetic. The “Blade” brought in as Happy Shopper Warnock to add some fight and heart to a relegation fight. Look at that squad on paper- no way it should have gone down. Adams moped about like a mardy teenager and couldnt inspire a fart in a curry house.
Wilson: Very underwhelming appointment, for me due to his shit record, but previous pigginess didnt help him. Actually won me over- played great football (albeit with a squad better than most in the division) and was extremely unlucky in very cruel circumstances not to bounce us straight back. Unravelled after that, and should have gone the next summer, but was stupidly sacked before the play offs, leaving Morgan to be thrown under the bus.
Weir: Another disaster. Was actually preferable to some of the dinosaur names being bandied around at the time. I’ll actually give McCabe a bit of credit here; at least he tried something different.
Clough: Like Blackwell before him, had a fantastic impact; dragged us up the league and gave us a very enjoyable cup run. Really fancied us to kick on from tgere, but Clough spent the summer signing loads of squad players instead of the 3 or 4 quality additions we needed. Again like Blackwell, went way too cautious. Recieves top hindsight points for signing Coutts, Basham and Freeman.
Adkins: Another dire one. But lets be honest- who wasnt buzzing when we got him? I was. Started well by resigning Sharp. Then got walloped 4-0 by Gillingham and never recovered. Spent 12 months waffling bollocks, making excuses and basically being crap. Worst league finish than any of the men above. Thought he was a total busted flush, but to his credit, is doing alright at Hull despite them being a complete madhouse.
