I hope someone bookmarks this thread and throws it back at me, and I would be delighted to be proved wrong and humiliated on what I'm about to say....

.....I just don't think he's up to it. He seems like the type of luxury player who needs high quality around him to make him shine, and if he's not getting the games (quite rightly) I can see him returning to Liverpool in January.

I do fear he will become the next Stefan Scougall. Ridiculously early days I know, nothing personal no agenda no scapegoating etc, it's just based on what I've seen

I've never been more excited by a signing in years yet he just doesn't seem cut out for this level as of yet, and I don't think we have the time to develop him.

As I said, tin hat on, and would love to regret this thread....

I don’t know where he fits into our system.. possibly Duffy’s role?

Dunno how ya expect him to have an impact in 10 mins, in a game we were getting absolutely dicked on.
What's the point of having subs if they can't make a positive impact when we're not playing well?
He looks like a boy lost in a man's game at the moment and unfortunately a pointless signing.

I thought he was signed to have an impact. Certainly did naff all against Norwich when he started.

At the very least, I can't see how he can be justified playing at this moment in time, just doesn't seem ready in the same way players from OUR academy are.

Exactly. He’s only ever been brought on when games are won or when we are under the cosh and he can’t get in the game.

It’s obvious that the lad is crying out for game time but he’s just not getting it. He shows glimpses but he’s not had long enough on the pitch to have an impact.

For me he’s the man to play the Duffy role when Duffy is brought off but we’re jist not utilising him effectively at the minute

If you're expecting us to loan an 18 year old to have major game changing impacts then you're massively deluded.

Saviour Brooks rarely had an impact coming on as sub, in fact save 3/4 games he had zero impact, but he's lauded as Maradona on here....and he's 3 years older.

Then what's he here for? He's a CAM , that's their job.

Certainly not good enough to start, haven't seen any glimpses thus far.

Surely we should only be looking to acquire players capable of having an impact otherwise why else would we sign them?

1: Ball was hardly up that end of the pitch when he came on.
2: The balls played up with aerial, I don't think he's a target man.
3: He's 18, if he was seriously that much of a game changer, do you think he'd be here?

Too early to chuck him under the bus just yet but the early signs are a little underwhelming. He needs to provide a spark when he comes on and make us all sit up and notice, it's not happening at the moment but he has plenty of time yet.
Duffy and McG are also in decent form so no panick either.

I was really excited when he signed, but so far looks off the pace, can only hope he will improve fast

Washington had more time, signed to make more than an impact being a striker. Did nothing.

But let's make a thread slating an 18 year old that had 10 mins in our worse performance of the season.

Really don't like what I've seen of him so far.

He looks like your typical player who's been plucked out of the PL development league.

Very poor to only have him as backup for Duffy.

Washington is no where near the standard we need upfront. I actually felt sorry for him.

Woodburn has looked totally out of his depth so far. As for Scougall, he wasn't that bad for us!

I’m glad someone has the exact same thoughts as me on this thread.

It means I can get to bed and provide the argument

Woodburn reminds me of Scoogs at the moment. That said Scoogs waded in with the odd goal and good play.

No-one is above criticism. This thread is not just based on tonight, also his very poor showing against Norwich.

We paid decent money for him, we should expect some return for our investment. I predict we won't, and that he will be back at Liverpool in January then off for a loan to Sunderland in League One.

He's been poor all season. Maybe he'll come good but for someone looking to make his way in the game and already with a reputation he's been massively disappointing.
James Wilson had a similar reputation when he came through at Man Utd and where's he now. Sheffield United don't exist for the benefit of Ben Woodburn, it's up to him what he wants to achieve.
Agree that Washington also looks a poor signing so far. A slightly souped-up Lavery who looks like he'll have a similar impact.

That's end of the debate for me, ridiculous.

So an 18 year old gets 45 minutes against a good Championship team set up to frustrate away from home and 10 minutes against another decent team, when all his team mates are having an off day.

I'd say that is more than enough 'evidence' to hang draw and quarter him.

Get the pitchforks!

He would have won us the game if McGoldrick hadn't fucked up that that easy pass on the left side of the box. He was clean through.

I think our players were having a competition to see who could play the worse final ball tonight.

Given that he was rated (by many) above Brooks, that’s surely a hindsight post.
