Will we send Wednesday down?

It’s been 10years of complete dominance over them - it’s the best time in my lifetime of lording it over them. If it was roles reversed I’d be sick, sick of it all. As much as they say they dont care - they do. It’s fantastic.
Ive spent my peak years completely pissing on them. All of my twenties, couldnt have been timed better for me.

The Let's-Send-Them-Down requirements
  1. As it stands, they are 39 points from safety with 48 to play for

  2. They will need to go into the match on the 22nd between 40 and 42 points from safety. Fewer than 40 and they could mathematically stay up after the Derby, more than 42 and they will already be down

  3. The side fourth from bottom therefore needs to end the day on February 21st on a minimum of 33 points plus however many Wednesday gain in their next two and a maximum of 35 plus Wednesday's points from next two matches

  4. This means that, assuming Wednesday lose at Swansea and at home against Millwall:
    1. Charlton (35 points) need to lose their next four or
    2. Portsmouth (33) pick up a maximum of one point from their next 4 and/or
    3. Norwich (33) pick up a maximum of one point from their next 3 and/or
    4. Blackburn & West Brom (both 32) can pick up a maximum of 3 points from their next 3 and/or
    5. Oxford (27) can pick up a maximum of 7 points from their next 3
  5. Charlton play Portsmouth in a rearranged fixture on Feb 17th. 1) and 2) are therefore mutually exclusive, it's either-or if Wednesday lose their next two

  6. Norwich play Blackburn, Oxford and West Brom in their three fixtures so will have a big say in this

  7. If four of the six teams meet those criteria then we will be able to relegate them

  8. Add Wednesday's points from next two matches to the requirement above - although two wins for Wednesday would mean we couldn't relegate them because of those matches between the teams reducing the points they could get
Also worth noting that Blackburn (4th bottom 32 points) also have to play WBA (3rd bottom, 32 points) later this season. So the absolute best case scenario for SWFC (1990) is a draw in that match.

So 4th bottom is effectively on 33 points right now. Meaning SWFC (1990) are effectively 40 points from safety with 48 to play for.

In fact there are lot of games between Norwich, Portsmouth, Blackburn and WBA which means that some of them have to pick up points.

They can`t be relegated this weekend and I don`t think they can be relegated over the weekend of the 14th - they might be able to be relegated midweek on the 17th, and they could be relegated the day before we play them.

As the games get done between now and the derby - some of the scenarios will start to solidify - the question mark over a Leicester points deduction may end up being the biggest variable by the time we get to the derby,

If we do send them down, will be interesting which song is selected.

A few suggestions…

Status Quo - Down Down (as you’ve already mentioned)
Men At Work - Land Down Under
Kool and the Gang - Get Down On It
Arctic Monkeys - When The Sun (pigs) Goes Down
James - Sit Down
ELO - Don’t Bring Me Down
Elton John - Don’t Let The Sun Go Down on Me
There are a disappointing lack of songs with the word "relegate" in the title...

It is such a unique set of circumstances to most likely never be repeated.

Either their captain sends them down on Valentines Day or we do immediately afterwards.
It's a great 'would you rather' question for any owls fans you happen to be talking to...

If Leicester lose their next two matches I can imagine this scenario on 14th February

Millwall beat Wendy to send Wendy down.

In the next few days the EFL dock Leicester 6 points for FFP giving Wendy a short reprieve giving us the chance to relegate Wendy on the 22nd!
🎶First team to be relegated twice in the same season you’ll never sing that🎶

Relegated twice in a week, that's one for the ages.

Love it!

So this has been a shit season for us, we’re just a couple of defeats away from it ending prematurely in February with no more parachute money coming in and all our best players potentially leaving the club in the summer.…Yet, some fans on here will be doing delirious cartwheels in the street if we send an already relegated, League One standard club down to errr…League One.

The fact it will almost certainly be a non entity of a season, is all the more reason to take what crumbs of comfort are on offer.

Those who just want to enjoy their hair shirts, presumably do not live or Sheffield, or do not know any of the Deluded

And it gets better idiot pig next-door just said " don't care if we don't win another game this season if it means we beat you wankers to stop you getting top 6" , don't about the rest of you guys on here but I'd take a loss if it meant promotion, they really are the most weird people on the planet.
Maybe just me 🤷

Honestly until the week of it it's something I don't particularly care about. More interested as to if we can make the gap between us and the play offs smaller by then

I never take it for granted that we will win derby matches , not even this one .

As others have said , they may already be relegated by then which I suppose gives them a nothing to lose mentality .

Ill still be happy with a 1-0 win

Aye, maybe.
