Will we send Wednesday down?

It's just a bit odd that you don't post like one.

I'll give you the benefit of my doubt, on this occassion, but some of your posts have a definite whiff of porcine about them.
Absolutely a Blade but very pragmatic about the state of football on both sides of the city and beyond
It is possible to be a Blade and have opinions that are different to others on here

But, for many, that makes me an S6 fan. Bit juvenile really.

But you’re not responding to my factual point that they forced him out because he would only just cover the absolutely minimum after funding their losses year after year. They were in a much better position with him than they are now and didn’t sell their players to cover those losses.
The guy was an idiot but the fans wanted admin and to be available to new owners. They have got what they wanted and campaigned for but are still whining about how unfair it is. What did they think would happen when they removed someone who is covering the multi million pound overspend year on year?
Given the above, how can you honestly claim this season is solely on an owner who was keeping them afloat year on year and is no longer here? It’s nonsense and you’ve fallen for their entitlement bullshit.

No. Chansiri and his associates sent them down before a ball was kicked this season.

Relegating a team of kids and desperate loan signings, which was absolutely inevitable, is a hollow victory, if that.

I'll not celebrate sending their crap team down if they promise to stop banging on about winning the League cup with a team better than ours.
Circumstances count for sod all when it comes to city rivalry.
If it does, I'm wiping out Boxing Day '79 because, had Mickey Speight not gone off injured, it would never have happened!

Of course that is possible, it is just strange that you don't seem to see anything positive.

I'm very much glass half empty, so normally I'd be very sympathetic to different opions, but yours seem very oddly motivated.

'Pragmatic'?
Pigmatic perhaps.

100% wrong
Sorry to disappoint

Our upcoming result against them will be as valid as they were when chansiri was throwing the readies around. Their situation is the result of years of negligent management. It’s feeble of them to cry “it’s not valid”, or “it doesn’t count against a team of kids.” Well, I’m afraid it does!

I don't want to get ahead of myself, but if, if the stars align and everything goes as hoped, I'd love it, love it, if Gary Sinclair gave U2 a rest at the final whistle and instead played The Laughing Policeman.

Acknowledge your sources man 😉

Last minute winner for us, Gary Sinclair plays the laughing policeman at full time. 🙏

Doesn't seem that long ago when the little piggies were laughing at us in the Prem getting battered every week. Laughing at us only getting 16 points in the Prem.

Meanwhile, in the Championship they are sat rock bottom, propping up the league on a grand total of -7 points and have only racked up 11 match points with 1 win and 8 draws.

Most likely will finish the season on minus points 💪

Must be the hardest Championship for years 🤔

Try not to laugh 🤣
It’s this for me. Don’t get me wrong, in a one to one conversation with my Wednesday mates I will acknowledge the futility and dismal nature of their predicament, but at a higher level I couldn’t care less what happens to them. As you say, it was hilarious to them when we took a water pistol to a nuclear war when we went up to the premier league, and they delighted in reminding us of the records we broke. And quite right too, that’s their job, and our job is to metaphorically grind our boot into them.

Updated from here with the weekend's results and Leicester's points deduction

The Let's-Send-Them-Down requirements
  1. As it stands, Wednesday (1990) are 39 points from safety with 45 to play for

  2. They will need to go into the match on the 22nd between 40 and 42 points from safety. Fewer than 40 and they could mathematically stay up after the Derby, more than 42 and they will already be down

  3. The side fourth from bottom therefore needs to end the day on February 21st on a minimum of 33 points plus however many Wednesday gain in their next two and a maximum of 35 plus Wednesday's points from next two matches

  4. Norwich's win on Saturday and Charlton's point means they are no directly longer part of this; Oxford's failure to beat Coventry means they can no longer influence whether or not Wednesday get relegated at the Lane

  5. This means that, assuming Wednesday lose against Millwall, the gap to the teams will be
    1. Oxford: minimum 35, maximum 41
    2. Leicester/Blackburn/Portsmouth/West Brom: minimum 40, maximum 46
  6. If more than three of the four sides currently on 32 or 33 points gain three or more points in their fixtures between tomorrow and Feb 21st, Wednesday will get relegated before they face us
    1. Portsmouth play United (H), Charlton (A) & Millwall (A)
    2. West Brom play Birmingham (A) & Coventry (H)
    3. Leicester play Southampton (H) & Stoke (A)
    4. Blackburn play QPR (A) & Preston (H)
  7. A win for Wednesday next weekend would mean we couldn't relegate them because of those matches between the teams reducing the points they could get

Not sure I agree.

If we assume SWFC (1990) win next weekend, but so do Blackburn, Leics, WBA and Portsmouth then they would be 39 behind with 42 to play for - an win for us then does relegate them (as they would be 39 behind Leics and Blackburn and they play on the last day.

I concur that if SWFC (1990) win, and the others don`t win one of the game between now and the derby, then we can`t relegate them.

We bicker and argue about alot of pointless shit on this forum but it truly is one very sad day when we can't all agree beating Wednesday and relegating them regardless of their issues and possision is anything other than a dream for Blades fans.

Shame.

Always been Eeyores 🙁

I can’t decide which I prefer, assuming they don’t score against Millwall:

A: 1-0 win and relegate them

B: 4-0 win, but they get the R later

Or, for Boxer Blade:

C: 6-1 (and they already gone?)

Obviously if Carling did derby days and the maths gods align there could be an option D 🙏.

Isn’t that what a football forum is all about?…whether it’s clappers v wetters, Wilder sceptics v Wilder fan boys or those who’s hatred of Wendy almost trumps their love of United. Personally I want to beat the “pigs” at every opportunity, but that’s only because I want the Blades to prosper…I don’t give a shit what happens to them.
But my original point is, we all love this club in many different ways, so it doesn’t really matter what people say on here so long as we all get behind team at BDTBL and beyond.

Its almost certain Wednesday will go down with either 14 or 13 games left to play. Would that be the earliest anyone has ever been relegated?

Almost certainly. I doubt very much that anyone has ever finished 30+ points away from safety.

In a 46 match season with 3 points for a win, these are the five lowest points totals and when those hopeless teams were relegated.
Doncaster 20, Division Three, 1997/98: relegated on April 11 with 4 matches to play (only 1 team relegated; they finished 30 points behind 4th-bottom Swansea)
Cambridge 21, Division 3 (old), 1984/85: relegated on April 16 with 7 matches to play (4 teams relegated; they finished 25 points behind 4th-bottom Burnley)
Rotherham 23, Championship, 2016/17: relegated on April 1 with 7 matches to play (finished 28 points behind 4th-bottom FOReST)
Newport 25, Division 4 (old), 1987/88: relegated on April 23 with 4 matches to go (only 1 team relegated; they finished 23 points behind 4th-bottom Rochdale)
Stockport 25, League One, 2009/10: relegated on April 10 with 5 matches to go (4 teams relegated; they finished 25 points behind 4th bottom Gillingham)

The Premier League earliest relegation is Southampton last season at 7 matches remaining.

Let's hope that Wednesday can do what Cambridge did in the 80s and crash through the second and third tiers in consecutive seasons with then-record low totals (the Us finished bottom of the 22-team Division 2 in 83/84 with 24 points).

Relegation was confirmed after we lost 6-0 at Spurs on 27th March 1976 with 6 games left.
