Wilders PL signings

Wilder's signings haven't been exactly ground-breaking this year, but they have generally played their part at some point. Yes he's spent up to 25m on a single player, but comparatively speaking 25m doesn't get you much nowadays in terms of PL quality.

1. This is unknown territory to us but Wilder's task of recruitment is far more difficult than for pretty much any other side as he has a smaller market to shop in, and we can't afford to buy a 25m player and cut our losses; so the pressure is on for every signing to be a success.

2. This is Wilder's first experience of having more than a few bob to spend, he's not going to become an expert on multi million pound signings overnight.

3. We play a very specific and particular style. Each cog in the finely tuned machine is as important as the next. A new component generally takes time to bed in to a machine.

I trust Wilder. He's earned that.

I agree with all that. But it may be time to tinker with how we play. We can't rely on conceding less than a goal a game every season. We need to be aiming to score 45+ in 38 games to compensate for the fact that sometimes good teams will score good goals

Just a quick question,have we been improved as a "team" with all the signings,i would say no we have'nt,the "squad" has been improved by them tho,but thats not quite the same.

I would have preferred it if we had signed at least a couple of players who when signed went straight into the team and cemented their position and improved us on the pitch

Agreed. People slating our strikers movement etc but what good is running round like a maniac and tiring yourself out going to change? Fact is unless they're a Ronaldo or Aguero they need service to score which they haven't been getting.

I noticed a couple of times in the past 2 games where a player had been in a good position to have a crack from 20/25 yards but didn't. That's not a criticism of the player because I know Wilder instructs them to fashion a high quality chance and not squander possession. Sometimes though it pays to just have a go. We haven't scored many long rangers under Wilder.

That's fine. Pretty much everyone on here said they would happy with 17th by the end of the season.

Agreed. People slating our strikers movement etc but what good is running round like a maniac and tiring yourself out going to change? Fact is unless they're a Ronaldo or Aguero they need service to score which they haven't been getting.

We've had an amazing season but unless we have Mousset and Didzy playing well we struggle to create much. So we have to manufacture new and creative ways of creating because we can't afford to just buy ready made superstars.

It's not easy but you have to back Wilder to figure it out

The signings have made everyone raise their performance levels but expected something special from our two most expensive players,maybe they need a little more time maybe it's not quite worked out but ffs we've had a dodgy restart - disappointing as the position we are in but ...

I prefer the same too but given how unique we are that is very hard. Some positions are harder than others but even just fitness wise it's a big jump.

Because he thought Lundstram would be better, which is reasonable as he's been great this season.

Without hindsight, Lundstram could've been awful at prem level. Be good if you actually tried dealing with my argument: players need cover, the cover isn't a failure just because they cost money and don't play.

Apparently the transfer budget for next season will be lower than this.

So you want to get rid of 4 players, for less than what was paid, and then replace them with cheaper players?

Cheaper doesn't equal worse though..... recruitment needs working on, unearth some gems in Europe for peanuts ala Kanye, Marhez etc

Don't get why that rings alarm bells, the 4mill we paid for him is nothing at this level. Man city have a £60mill cover right back.

We can’t afford the quality that even clubs like Brighton & Bournemouth can attract.

That’s why it was imperative we stayed up and continue to do so to accumulate cash from TV deals and better exposure.

Everybody played fantastically tonight, absolute star performance from them all, so proud, we're back!!

Berge will be a real player for us, McBurnie is a great player imo and still only a kid, Moose is potentially a top player but needs to keep his fitness levels high, Osborn is decent player and worth what we paid, still got high hopes for Robinson.... maybe only Freeman wasn't a decent buy, and even then I've not really seen too much of him and the bits I have, he looks OK.

For the money we have paid out, I still think CW has bought really well. Maybe I'm in the minority though. We have to remember that whilst it's big money by United's standards, it's not a great deal by PL fee standards.

I can see 4 of those moving on in the next window. Wilder has not done great with the money forwarded to him and I would argue none of them are any better than we already had. Wilder has done miracles with the squad he built up from L1 but these signings have not taken us any further forward.

I think this is now a huge failure.

Bogle: Unused

Wilder has had plenty of funds and opportunities to rebuild the squad but has completely failed. It was plainly obvious the team needed rebuilding with Prem standard players to have any chance of survival.
