I'd hate this to be the start of the end of Wilder. It's not like we didn't know it wasn't going to last forever.

Hopefully it is just a blip. And hopefully we won't become United of old and sack managers because of a few blips. In 4 years this is Wilder's worst period... But we are in the Premier League, it is almost expected at some point you'll have a rough patch. Not having fans there giving lads a boost feels like the key to me. No one to give them a verbal kick up the backside other than Wilder, so of course he's stressed.

Wilder is not the problem it is the players especially our midfield and strikers it is just not good enough.

Pissed off, frustrated, dejected, feeling a bit cheated, fucking officials again, players making stupid mistakes, missed fucking penalty............................................ I'd be worried if Chris came out all Madkins and mugged us off (to use one of his phrases) that all's well and we move on etc etc.

He knows what's needed and is working flat out to achieve it. I for one have no other hopes apart from finishing 17th or above this season. We are work in progress and last season we over achieved in that journey.

As much as I admire Wilder taking a stance against some bizarre and inconsistent decisions, the fact is that Mings hoofed a ball and we got caught square. Egan isn't fast enough to leave 1 v 1 against Watkins so why have we done it? We've then won a penalty completely against the run of play and contrived to miss it. We've compounded these 2 acts of stupidity by letting them score from a corner.

I've said it numerous times but you look at our play towards the back end of last season and then in the first 2 games and we aren't that good at defending when it's at the back. Why we are good at defending is that that we press as a whole team and keep the opposition at bay this way. If our defence is isolated against most forward lines in the PL then we are fucked. Last ditch defending with 10 men is different to being good in defence when we are playing our normal game. It needs to be tightened up a lot if we are to stay up this season. Tin hat on.

I also really don't understand why we can't at least attempt to play the ball out from the back, we started last season doing this and might have got caught 2 or 3 times, however our ball retention when going long is non-existent, granted I am only judging on the first 15 mins last night, but the ball just kept coming back because our forwards aren't Andy Carroll. When we went down to 10 it was needs must so I'll excuse that.

There is a lot of work to be done to get into a safe position with this team. What worries me at the moment is that we have abandoned a lot of the things that we were doing well at the start of last season.

Problem is we missed out on Morpey and settled for McB and although he shows some quality he ain’t stepped up. DD conviction, lairy crowd behaviour, upsetting Scottish fans not a good egg.
Tried reviving Ravel Morrison’s career that went south pretty quick. Taken Burke on as a project might be something there based on last night but not oven ready and McG career revived, that’s worked out well but not as a goal scorer.
Point I’m waffling about is we’ve spunked time and money and not got one goal scoring end product so conclusion is doing it ont cheap has been a big mistake.
Are we about to do the same re Brewster, Dennis, Buendia, Balogun by taking another cheap project if we miss out. 5 losses ont trot so I’m not surprised Wilders getting twitchy, board might take a grim view and bring in Dick Van Dyke.

As much as I really try to look at glass half full, to be fair, that is a very good post mate. Lot's of work to be done, but we'll get there! 17th will do for me this season.

This is what's annoying me more than anything.
We've turned into Stoke-lite since Xmas in some games without the players to do it.

We're becoming the type of team we used to piss ourselves at the critics saying we were. It's annoying as fuck.

More money spent is not necessarily the answer, at this level [cf with the top 8-10 clubs level, who have the money to gamble & swallow the hit if it fails].

Last nights teams spent around £300 million since May 2019, & how many of those players who have been bought have made an impact?

The reality is in all probability the first names down on the team sheets are those from the Championship, our back 5 + Didzy possibly, McGinn, JG & Mings [was on loan at the time] for AV.

Bearing in mind AV have just spent £80 million [Ok 1 could not play yesterday], I saw no discernible improvement from last season.

I cannot help but think this needs some tactical tweaking as much as anything else [the change to 4 4 1 last night nullified their attacking intent], but being on equal terms after 20 minutes would help. This alongside either a creative no 10 or striker is about the best I think we can hope for.

of course wilder is peed off but it does feel like the sport is against us. 2 goals in 1st 6 mins did throw us off in 1st game & the ludicrous red card which every CB ive seen is guilty of & all of a sudden now its a red card. we arent playing badly as since the 2nd half of wolves there are many positives. but as i feel every week this losing run wouldnt have been bad as out of the last 4 games this & last season if we could learn to take advantage & kill off games as we had huge chances we couldve won 3 of them

This is the first really bad spell since then as well. Keep the faith. Personally I'd hang on to Wilder even if we do bomb out of the division this season, not that I expect that to happen.

I have a slight concern about Berge's future, in that he was brought in when we were challenging for Europe and is good enough to play in at least the Europa League (in my opinion, and that of many of the big clubs across Europe apparently whom we pipped to the post for his signing). If we're not showing commitment to improving our quality in the final third, and as a result we finish lower than last season without even a hint that we can compete in the top 7, there's a good chance I think that one of the big clubs will take him off our hands. And he's exactly the kind of player we need to be building the team around if we're to push on to the next level.

It's difficult to say with certainty about were we currently are.

However we can say that we definitely need at LEAST 1 new striker in before the end of the window.

I honestly don't see the point in playing Lundstram either. He obviously doesn't want to agree the terms on offer so why should he be played? I suppose CW is choosing him because there are not many other options at RCM?

Maybe in that case we should change formation to something more suited to the players that do want to be here.

Yes, the point is that if you don't put yourself in that position to start with then it's irrelevant whether it is or isn't a red. Egan had a chunk of Watkins' shirt, Watkins had hold of his arm. It could have gone either way but the ref gave it. Learn from it by not isolating our slowest defender 1v1 against a quick forward.

you name a Centre back of the last 30 years, ill tell you they are guilty of the exact same offense. the Argentinan defender in 1998 when owen scored was guilty, but no-one saying if owen goes down the argentinan needs sending off. these tussle happen numerous times every week. & that effect us all of sudden we are going to struggle as everything we've worked on has gone

the penalty ive said is absymal. perfect place & height for keeper. i dont blame the defence at all. we cant be expecting perfection from the defence every week because we are so wasteful at the other end. but we are not in trouble & we have more than enough quality to get out

Like you said, ours is a different system. In that phase of play, we were pressing Villa high in their half. Leaving Egan one on one with a striker is something we do constantly under Wilder whilst pressing. We pressed as a team and got caught out (only just though, Egan was level with Watkins and it wasn't a foul imo).
