Wilder to Sunderland?

I would say the risk would be unimaginable, if you don't tie down your biggest asset when you get the opportunity. Do not complain when they walk out the door.
 

See it's just been reported that Garry Monk's resigned at Leeds. Sunderland bound? (... Wilder inevitably gets linked with the Leeds job.)

Yeah, you're right. Just that whenever there's even a possibility of Leeds coming calling, then there's an inevitable queasy feeling deep in the gut.

I know what you mean mate. But if he went there, he'd be back out of work in about 18 months, they are a big club yes but a car crash too.

Wilder was on record saying about a player last summer (I think it was George Long).. "if a player wants to drive up the motorway for a few extra quid, there's the door"

CW won't leave for money. He'll leave if he thinks it will further his career. Sunderland is rotten and has been for years. SUFC are on their way back AND he supports us. If say an Everton or a top 6 club etc. Came in then he would leave.. he'd be silly not too
 
Haven't Sunderland been making loads of backroom staff redundant i.e. the Tea lady because they are that skint!

If that's the case I can't see them shelling out a million a year for a mananger

The 5-1 favourite was on the first day of betting.
Wilder is currently 33 to 1.

Our ex managers Clough, Warnock and even Nigel Adkins are bigger favourites.
Believe it or not, even ex Blade Nyron Nosworthy is a bigger favourite than Wilder for the Suderland job.

Wilder is not even in the top 30 favourites and the Sunderland fans laugh that we think they might take a risk on our manager, someone who has spent his whole career in the lower divisions..

Hate to tell a few home truths but in the football world Wilder is still a bit of a nobody (relatively speaking).
Next season at Championship level gives him the opportunity to get some publicity and raise his profile.

Although I accept people (Chairmen) ARE watching and if Wilder impresses (like I expect) in the Championship then after Xmas we may feel some pressure to keep him but he might think he can get PL football with us if everything goes well.

Huddersfield managed to keep there wit kid Wagner so I don't think we will have trouble keeping .Mr Wilder.He's got his dream job,not saying he won't get poached at some point but he will get well paid to take us back to the Prem..That's when keeping him might be a problem if he's ambitious to reach the very top.
 
Wilder won't leave SUFC for another Championship side. He may be interested should a Premiership team come calling but he will be a long way down the wish list, they are after far bigger/more exotic names.

I really wouldn't worry.

I'd also point out that if McCabe stuck Wilder on a longer contract with double or triple wages then certain elements of the fan base would have a field day with that should we lose a few at the start of the season and they decide that Wilder is 'out of his depth' .

Bang on the nail there with all your points, good post.

The last point actually made me laugh.
It would be typical of modern day football fans.
After 10 matches we find ourselves hovering around the relegation zone with Ched and Nathan Thomas looking really poor.

The cry on here would then be "I knew all along that Wilder was overrated. He's totally out of his depth in the Championship and should stick to league 2, Ger rid etc and "Why did McCabe give him a massive pay rise when he'd not managed a single game in the Championship. When will McCabe ever learn?"

Personally I think Wilder is the best thing to happen to this club since Bassett
and I'm quietly confident we'll be close to playoffs places but if I'm wrong then I'll admit it.
To be fair even if Wilder struggles he's already won plenty of support and patience from me.
 
I hope all the local press are just trying to piece anything together to make news, but Wilder is getting mentioned more and more for the Sunderland job
 

It's simply not going to happen so I'm not concerned in the absolute slightest.

There are many many years to go until Wilder leaves the club.
 
Comments like "no chance" and "he won't leave us for Sunderland" are defensive and illogical. His fantastic achievements at Northampton and United will generate a lot of interest. No reason to think a lucrative offer wouldn't see him gone.

No, there's some logic there. If McInnes turned them down (and turned down a very lucrative contract) then it's quite possible Wilder will turn them down also, if he sees the job in the same way McInnes has; a poisoned chalice.

If a better club comes in for him, he may go.

I don't think a lot of the responses are based on logic like that though. I think some genuinely believe he would turn Madrid down based on his loyalty to us.

Problem is, when you build someone up to be superhuman it's always going to be a disappointment when you find out they're only human.

Dunno about that. His work in the transfer market and comments about players following the money have painted him to be more about integrity and honour than the buoyancy of his bank balance...

Often these media sources actually quote another source. However Sky doesn't and when Sky report on something it carries more weight than HITC and the Daily Star. I'm not running round my house screaming don't panic, I'm just saying this is worrying because an approach may well happen now and we can do without this, at the very least.
