Did it get us a trophy?? 😂
Where did the money go - wages and transfer fees plus ground and training ground improvements.
If you want us to be sat now with lots of cash saved from the premier league days you are also talking against your own argument for success as it takes cash - lots of it that we don’t and probably never will have.

I’d lower your expectations or support another team mate as you are going to be disappointed if 2 promotions and a 9th place PL finish are not good enough.

This is exactly the kind of attitude that lets this club off the hook time and time again. Sheffielders have zero ambition, it’s like everyone has imposter syndrome (“oh it can’t happen to us, have to lower our expectations, we can’t possibly spend 10’s of millions and establish ourselves in the premier league). It’s bollocks, defeatist and holds us back.

I’ve just watched Ipswich spend £200m, I’ve watched Cov sign some very good players. I watched Sunderland last time round spend very well and have a go. Nah not us. Same old shite.

United aren't a club, under Wilder that invests a lot of time in coaching individuals (a point confirmed by Wilder).

The players from 16-20 were disciplined, tactically excellent, naturally fit and athletic and mature. The system they played showed that. The defensive rotations were excellent, everyone knew who and where they were to cover when someone else was pressing or was out of position. In short, the players were just better at those elements of the game and there was a much, much smaller requirement on the managerial team to improve it for them or work on it individually.

The team of the last 3 years is pretty undisciplined, lacks natural fitness/athleticism and contains players who make the same stupid mistakes over and over with seemingly little mental ability to correct them. They need more coaching, more structure and to be guided through matches in a way the previous version didn't - you see this when one player is drawn out of position, the whole structure falls apart and looks a complete mess.

It appears that the way United have decided to compensate for this is, rather than work on individuals and structure, defensive rotations and deep understanding of your role, is to drop 20-30 yards deeper and hope defensive solidity can be found through strength in numbers.

I think it is very fair to say that the majority of players still like Wilder and are still 'playing for him'. But I don't think he trusts them, or his ability to improve them tactically and to install better discipline and maturity enough to give them more leeway. It's probably why he wants 'experience' in. But I think aptitude is the thing that is missing most, in all areas of the club

So what you're saying here (and im starting to think it also), is that wilder got prettt lucky with his purchases.

The height of of our ambition is just to be better than Sheffield Wednesday.

A football club that literally finished on zero points last season.

It's like running out of your house every morning to laugh at your disabled neighbour as they lower the ramp to their wheelchair accessible van.

is that birmingham team same as last season you could argue we had 2 chances to have all 3 if it wasn't for decent stops from there keeper i dont think cooper had anything to do apart from routine catches early days we will become more potent bamford is guarenteed goals at this level
We only had one shot on target.
Except for the good save Cooper did down too his right at the Kop end.
Birmingham where equally as poor, they probably shaded midfield but they looked just as woeful in attack as we were.
Both teams look mid to lower table.

It looks like we're heading for stormy waters. Wether you like Chris Wilder or not. At this moment in time, he is the best man for the job. My concern is that the owners will drive him into a corner and he will say enough is enough.

Wouldn't surprise me if he walks if we don't get any more players and this situation continues

or both teams had a good defense, that made little errors. early days its a clean sheet with a team with little signings, im a cup half full person me pal negativity only encourages negativity we take the positives for now. The team looks fitter i think players like Campbell can find there form again i would much prefer him playing up top with Bamford in a 442 if were going to play that formation again.

That’s what he’ll want you to think as he rides off into the sunset with a pouch of gold dabloons.

Disagree; realism and ambition are not mutually exclusive. The difference is that this can result in achievement, whereas unrealistic ambition generally ends in disaster (If a club has shed loads of money, they can realistically expect to achieve more, sooner - doesn't mean they will do so in the long run). If anyone has the money... come on down and I'll reassess.

Yes but didn’t Willder bring Hecky in?

Didnt Wilder bring in Hecky? - Look I know opinions differ but tell me when it’s gone well for us when we’ve tried to have a reset and change the DNA of the club? I’ve been watching us since the late 1970s and Apart from arguably Kendall and Spackman the best times have pretty much all come from resolute, up and at them, muck and brass football. It’s not always worked, the football under Blackwell was bloody awful but some of the good times under Harry, Warnock and Wilder have been the best.

Yet we seem to have thread after thread after thread attempting to undermine the club and divide the fan base. What do these fans want? jocanović back again or maybe Selles? Cos we won’t be bringing in any top guys, we can’t afford it. Surely Chris’ biggest critics have to accept he loves the club and I’d take that any day over some mediocre cliché ridden nonentity with no understanding of the soul of the club and no idea how to put a winning team together.
Agree, until we actually have an owner or owners that spend a fair bit on infrastructure and playing squad ie nearly throwing an open cheque book at it, it will not change. Jokanovic was the correct man to lead this but unfortunately, we didn't have the ownership that had the ££ to turn over the Wilder era DNA thus leading to his sacking and heckingbottom picking up where wilder left off

It a realistic attitude unless we get very rich owners, and unfortunately it’s unlikely a city like Sheffield or a club with a fan base like ours will attract such an individual.
I’ve got a lot of ambition for the club but if we think a 9th place PL finish isn’t good enough we are living in cloud cuckoo land.
Modern football is down to finances and little else. Yes you can improve with coaching, academy etc but to compete in the PL it’s cold hard cash and even that doesn’t guarantee you anything as Chelsea’s owners have found out.
Unless you know a billionaire willing to throw a few hundred million at it we are where we are.

The point being…”id lower your expectations….” - why should we lower our expectations? We’ve spent nigh on £220m since 2019 which has included 2 x promotions and 3 seasons in the PL.

My expectations are relatively high on that spend. The first season WAS all about momentum from the League One boys and they did well in a covid year to finish 8th - Wilder and Knill did well too. The second and third seasons were abysmal - bad spending, lack of decent scouting and a failure to adapt to the PL demands - we were relegated with a whimper. I expected more than that and Wilder was a majority constant in this bar Hecky’s 4 month PL stint.

We’ve spent more than Sunderland on buying players since 2019 (according to Transfemrkt) and they’re about to start their 2nd season in the prem with European football to boot. If that was us that went up instead of them in the PO Final, we’d be back where we are now….through lack of ambition and bad spending.

It’s small time thinking and planning and it’s fucking me off. I actually blame Bettis for some of this too, not just Wilder.

Probably the least of our concerns right now is Wilder, if we end up in some sort of worst case scenario with the EFL and ownership fuckiwttery then we will need him to try and keep the ship afloat.

IF YOU LOVE YOUR CLUB WILDER TELL YOUR PAYMASTERS TO FUCK OFF AND SHOWCASE THAT YOU, AND YOU ALONE HAVE THE PUNTERS HEARTS IN YOUR MIND. NAIL IT TO THE WALL. GERRIM GONE CHRISSY

And just how would that help ?

And just how would that help ?
Because then he’s a blade, a proper blade! an out of work blade . . . . . Hold on, but but but . . . . . . .

Tell your boss to fuck off and they’ll give you 5 mins (if you’re lucky) to grab your stuff on the way out. If he loves the club like he says (like I believe he does) he’ll stay where he can actually effect things and try and help us. It’s a childish view to suggest he should tell the owners to do one, that would be a cowards way out

What’s the hate on wanting Wilder to go? If anyone’s going to help us get out of this mess I wouldn’t want it to be anyone else but Wilder.

I think the game plan for Birmingham and Swansea wasn’t too bad, yes the performances weren’t great but with the squad we’ve got what do you expect?

He’s clearly looking for a solid defensive foundation and to nick a goal here and there which I really don’t mind, look at the situation we are in.

If Wilder goes, that’s League One confirmed.

how can you be blaming Wilder when were unbeaten 2 clean sheets and don't have any creative players in squad because we've had to sell em? please explain you numpty

come back into the real world and stop thinking footballs played on a computer
did you win champions league on football manager 3 years on trot now think your billy big bollox and know football
what would you do differently come on know it all
