We have to stick with him for now because replacing him at this stage of the season would be suicide, but I do think we should replace him after the playoffs (whatever the result).

That obviously won't happen of course, it he wins the playoffs he'll be here next year. Assuming that happens (which is far from assured), next year will be a long, long season.

He still deserves a lot of credit for the rebuild and then having us in the auto race for 42 matches, so I won't be taking any of that away from him.

But I never wanted him back in the first place, I said that back in late 2023 when the rumours of him patching it up with PA and he was returning were strong.

Don’t take away what he’s done to get us here - however.

getting beers in and been one of lads can motivate players 💯

You then need the tactical nouse to get them over the line

Whatever happens I would like to see someone with a modicum of football intelligence appointed in June

He is a man manager and he rallies a team of lads together and no doubt the majority get on with him, but is that enough?

I think he is becoming a little exposed due to the quality of certain players that we have in this squad. There is no arguing that we should be doing better with the quality that we have, but we aren’t!

Where do you go now?
Stop playing Robinson

That was my thinking too but I wonder if bringing in someone now would give them a few games to get to know the players before we get to the Play Offs.

I won’t get into slagging Wilder off because he’s got a good history with us and did well with the rebuild this season, but I do think he’s taken us as far as he can. IMO the look on his face at the end seemed to say the same too.

Just drove past Lane, locksmiths van int car park.

Decision to bring him back was always wrong, he said what everyone wanted to hear about learning his lesson about being a control freak etc and promised to be more team than ‘me’ centric.

Love the guy as a player, loved him for lower leagues but he is not and never will be better than an average old school championship L1 manager.

Hands up anyone who would still give him a shot if we get to PL via play offs cause you’ve given the Wilder out bedwetters some lip this season.

It's -2 points that is the issue not the results. 😄

Has to go, relegation form, got zero belief in him now, doesn't help he criticised the fans too.
Get someone in with their focus on trying to get us through the playoffs, if the new manger succeeds give him an extension for the prem.

Let’s be right, the fans are currently split between those who saw the change of ownership as an opportunity to move the club forward in a progressive way and those who cling to a comfort blanket at all costs. A comfort blanket that is smeared with shit, but still a comfort blanket. That’s where we are today.

As long as he doesn’t start Mark Rankine.
We had a great first XI back then but the fact Rankine could justifiably get a game once McCall picked up a knock shows how little depth that squad had. At least if Souza or Peck get injured we have respectable options.

Our manager this season:
  • has had us in around the top three all season
  • has given us the double against our porcine cousins from across the city
  • is without a doubt, a Blade through and through and cares deeply about this club.

Yet, near enough 80% of us want him gone already. I'm not using the above as a defence of him, more an indication of just how utterly average we've been the majority of the time and arguably lucky we are to be where we are now.

This despite having some of best talent the club has ever had at this level. I still maintain there's no point in sacking him off now and I think he deserves the respect of having a go at the playoffs given what he's done for this club. But after that, and with the likelihood we don't even make the P/O final, it's time to say goodbye once and for all.

We were also led to believe Chris had humbled and changed. If anything he has got worse since his first spell.

No real tactics, no ideas.

Completely agree
The trouble is we've all been in love with the history with Chris we've all been looking at him with our hearts and through rose coloured glasses. (I'm as guilty of this as anyone)
Honestly thinking with the head he shouldn't have been left in charge after last season , some of the football this season has absolutely been turgid at times but he's got away with it because we've sneaked positive results, we've probably got the 3rd best squad in the championship but I just feel we could have played a bit more expansive football .
Yes souttar and ollie was a absolutely crippling loss but to bring in holding and not use him is criminal what moments he's had he's shown he's a good defender who does the job quietly and efficiently.
Wilder has a issue with players he hasn't signed his stubbornness will have cost us autos

Absolutely. And no identity.

The team, club and style of play in our run from League 1 to flirting with Europe had EVERYTHING. He will always have given us that. But it's a double edged sword as he'll always be judged against it too.

History should be left exactly where it is. In the past. And not all of us viewed the return through rose tinted glasses. In the poll on here at the time the majority didn’t want him back. He was tolerated, but never fully trusted, by many. The reaction over the last week was always going to happen at some point, which is why it was a huge mistake to bring him back.

I didn’t want him back at the time. For this exact reason, and so it has come to pass.

Hopefully the owners have someone already lined up, it's a large part of American business strategy that they have a "long " list of replacements ready for key staff

Bladey parochial bollocks wins out over logic every time with our supporters though. With the odd exception I’ve never known a more backwards looking fan base.

What kind of attendance for the home play off leg if we lose the 1st leg

Pointless sacking now. I don’t want to watch Wilders awful brand of football next season regardless of division but this deep into the season he may as well see it out IMO.

New manager and 100% new coaches and scouts.

For me Wilder has to stay until the end of the season although playoffs are looking more likely now there is still opportunities elsewhere. If he fails in playoffs under the new ownership it will be interesting to see where they take the club as I can see Wilder gone along with a clear out. Next season will be about rebuilding under whoever is brought in. Realistically if we go up this season we are down the following season and I fully expect Leeds and Burnley will be too, with whoever gets through in the playoffs. Although the Premier League is the “promised land” it’s not great for us as a low profile football club in that league in the international market.

On the whole I have defended Wilder this season. I felt that to rebuild and have us in the promotion picture for so long after the calamity of last season was an achievement of some note. After the Coventry prtformance and result I really thought we could do it. However, after the events of this week ~ ( and especially today) I am really not sure if Wilder is up to it. I didn't particularly approve of his antics after the Wednesday games. I want the person who represents our club to behave with dignity and class. But at the same time I told myself that it is good to have a manager who gets what tt is to support United. At the same time, Wilder seems to have had a go at supporters this week and lost self control after the match today. I had concerns about some performances but told myself results are all that matter. I also had doubts about some team selections but told myself it doesn't matter because we are winning games. Now this week we have imploded and Wilder seems to have lost it. I couldn't believe that he did not freshen the team up against Millwall after the Oxford game. His substitutions today left me scratching my head. I felt he was trying to hold on to a 1-0 win rather than going to finish the game off. I always had worries about spending so much money on Cannon. It would not be the first time a Wilder marquee signing has not paid off. I am hugely disappointed by this week but after over 50 years of being a Blade I am not in the least bit surprised. It's hard to see us succeeding in the play- offs if we maintain this form for the last few games. I have been telling myself for months that I am ambivalent about promotion given the almost impssible gulf now betewwen the Championship and the Premier League. But now we have buggered it up it feels like a massive wasted opportunity and I am afraid our Chris has to take a lot of responsibility for this. When we needed a calm head and clear thinking he has been found wanting. Maybe you could say he has still achieved a miracle this season and when the season is over and the dusr settles this may still be a valid opinion. But this week has been so much of a shit show that Wilder has lost a lot of credit he had the bank. Even for me. Sorry Chris, not good enough

Wilder has lost his head. I don't even see us beating Cardiff.
