Assuming we don’t pull off a miracle and actually get into the playoffs and win them, it’s safe to say that our budget for transfers/wages will be pretty limited this summer.

Is that necessarily a bad thing though?

CW best team was arguably one crafted from a modest budget. Perhaps it’s where he is at his best, in terms of squad building.

Having less money as a club is definitely a bad thing. Last time Bettis spoke, he effectively said the new training ground is on hold until PL money is likely.

I get your point about transfers and with less money, there are much worse people we could have as manager, but as with all transfers, there is an element of luck in terms of how they contribute and perform. We have also lent heavily on the loan market whilst we have had parachute payments, not sure if we are likely to be quite so active in this area.

If we can keep out academy products for another year, there is a really talented group of players to build a team around. We just need to make sure we have some experienced heads in there. Leadership looks a bit light this year.

Mid table and targeting a cup run would be an enjoyable season I think, but not sure the accountants would be happy with that.

Three teams coming down might be stronger, better organised and prepared than us.

Other teams above us in our league are becoming stronger.

Us with Wilder + minimal money is a utopia that too many cling on to, desperate that he finally finds the 2016+ method again.

Don't hold your breath on that.

All were available in summer for free. There's a good market every year, if you can be competitive with wages.

As its no surprise that we're not getting promoted , avoided relegation and the parachute payments stop there will already be a budget .
I'd imagine some of that will assume player sales for both income and lowering of the wage bill , matchday revenue will be predictable as are other costs .

Its a well trodden cycle when it happens to clubs and I doubt there's any panic amongst the Board or the club.

As for what that looks like on the pitch who knows but time for a few to step up , some to move on, some to replace and loan a few, pretty much like most summers .

In this league all you have to do is be competitive, hold mid table and decide if its possible to make a push for the second half of the season or to reinforce for safety.
