First of all, I am fully behind Mr Clough and hope he turns things around BUT I was asking myself the question earlier - which manager would have had the bigger impact if we hadn't fired him, Warnock or Wilson?

Would Warnock have got us back to the prem and established us there or would we have been languishing mid-Championship? Would Wilson have taken us up that season or last and if so would the climb have continued or would he have had us languishing mid-table in the Championship or worse still battling relegation like those from S6?

I remember at the times that the firing of Warnock was welcomed as the thought was he'd taken us as far as he could but disbelief at the sacking of Wilson at that time.

It wasn't Wilson who should have been sacked but the players. Until Collins and Doyle plus a few others have gone I won't be spending my money on watching Utd.

Wilson signed or signed on all the players we had when he left, including Collins and Doyle.

Weren't they Adams players? Wilson may have extended contracts etc of course. Although if you read Swiss post somewhere else its all done by committee now.

I think the mistake wasn't not renewing Warnocks contract but his replacement was an abject failure. Had Warnock been given the funds Robson was given he would have certainly made a better job of it. However, I believe my cat could have done a better job than Robson.

Warnock wasted the January Transfer Window by spending money signing the likes of Fahti, Shelton etc and his tactics in away Prem games contributed to our relegation (Aston Villa away for example)
We had no cover for Hulse and paid for it !
Likewise Wilson had no options after Ched got sent down and paid for it !
It's no good looking back - Realistically McCabe is to blame for our ills !

Warnock did have cover for Hulse: Stead came in and did a decent job (and rammed my words down my throat, as I thought it was a terrible signing). The wasting of the rest of the money was the problem.

As for the Ched thing, I don't see what more the club could have done. Sure, they brought in the usual useless loanee in O'Halloran, but they also had Hoskins - signed for the express purpose of covering Evans - and Beattie. Unfortunately:

- Hoskins got injured
- Beattie was injured and suspended and his form cratered
- Cresswell was also only half fit at the end of the season.

McCabe deserves much of the criticism that goes his way, but deserves none for 2011-2. He kept the good players, appointed a good manager, and spent money when needed, only to be denied promotion in the cruellest of circumstances.

The only thing I would have liked to see done differently? Have Ched's trial in the close season. Chelsea managed to arrange it for John Terry, but I do not know how easy this was to arrange. Perhaps it was not possible.

Both would have been out of contract in June this year if Wilson hadn't extended them.

What about:

which manager would have the longest hair if he became a Rasta and didn't cut it for 5 years? Harry Bassett for me.

which manager could produce the longest turd given a week of only high fibre food? Probably go for Billy McKewan myself.

which manager would make the best ballroom dancer if they went on Strictly? Twinkle toes John Harris (might struggle in the Latin though).
