Wilder would be our best ever manager in the play-offs

You failed to include 2 fa cup semi finals between the losses to wednesday and hull Newcastle 98 and arsenal 2003 , just to make it worse
I was just adding the Play Off semis to Sheffsteels list , he’d already got them listed in there , fk me it doesn’t make for good reading & I was at them all … maybe I’m the fkg Jonah ?? 😀

A question regarding 97.. was Spackman really the best CM we had to partner Hutchison? I liked him as a manager but was not a fan of him as a player for us. What were the alternatives?
Nic Henry played at Ipswich in the semi final second leg but I think got a red card so was suspended , Mark Patterson was a good ball winning centre midfielder at the time but I think he was injured?

Fair to say we didn't have a wealth of talent in CM!

It does make you wonder who from that team would get a game with us today?

Holdsworth, Hutchison & Fjortoft deffo..
Ward maybe? Katchouro.. he was good that season so maybe.. shame he kinda dropped off after that season.

Here is our "big game" record since our last trophy in 1925.
Regard play-off finals and cup semi finals we're currently on an incredibly bad run of 16 (yes SIXTEEN) games without a win.
No wonder many Blades....just accept we've already lost whenever we reach a semi final or play-off final.

FA cup semis and final (run of 10 games without a win)
1928 Lost semi 0-1 to Huddersfield after 2 previous draws
1936 Lost final 0-1 to Arsenal
1961 Lost semi 0-2 to Leicester after 2 previous draws
1993 Lost semi 1-2 to Sheff Wed
2014 Lost semi 3-5 to Hull City (probably the most joyous semifinal in living memory, we were leading at halftime playing really well).
2023 Lost semi 0-3 to Man City

Note: Just before our last cup final win we can so close to taking part in one of the most famous Wembley finals in history.
1923 was the year of the 1st ever cup final played at Wembley with an unofficial crowd of over 150K.
We lost 0-1 to Bolton Wanders in the semi final.

League cup semis and final (2 defeats)
2003 Lost semi 1-2 to Liverpool over 2 legs (conceding a very late goal)
2015 Lost semi 2-3 to Spurs over 2 legs (conceding a very late goal)

Play-off finals (4 defeats and not scoring a goal, even struggling to score penalties)
1997 Lost 0-1 to Crystal Palace (conceding a last minute goal)
2003 Lost 0-3 to Wolves (beat them home and away that season and we missed a penalty)
2009 Lost 0-1 to Burnley
2012 Drew 0-0 to Huddersfield, lost on PENS
AND 0-1 V NEWCASTLE AT OLD TRAFFORD FA CUP

WHEN YOU LOOK IN THE FIRST 25 YEARS OF THIS CENTURY

we have reached 8 big game semis or play off finals and 4 automatic promotions , with the possibility of a 5 th this season
so either 12 or 13 involvments in 25 years 1 in 2 year average

plus several play off semis v yeovil swindon forest
