It has too many knock on effects. A bigger, stronger squad is needed, and that would mean club form, leading to more players selected for national teams. Money set aside for the academy or ground improvements diverted to playing staff
The priority is to maintain PL status first and foremost. We don’t need to see big transfers blowing the wage structure, just to end the season fighting relegation with a knackered squad?
I realise that is the worse case scenario, but I’ve been a blades fan way too long to have this special time spoiled by too much ambition too soon.
Like the ground improvements, the next level of footballing excellence will have to take a back seat to keeping our PL status.
Five years from now? Maybe.
