I think acting like a twat has limited his first team chances.

Then that has to be a damning indictment of Blackwell doesn't it? Managers have to manage players. It hasn't stopped a fair old number of complete tossers (alledgedly) being pretty successful. The Blades alone have had a fair number of shall we say interesting characters over the years, in fact it was always one of Warnock's calls to try and find players who had lost their way somehow and get the best out of them on a last chance. You don't play a footballer because he's a nice boy with good table manners you play him because of ability.

too right !! what with throwing tantrums when he has travelled and not picked, to going on loan and stating he never wanted to wear the shirt again, to the last statement before the playoff final saying he was still unfit!! 2 year in to an expensiVe contract. the guy is a leech bleeding us dry.

Yes he has talent, but an attitude , as long as United pay him hes got a life style to envy. Private reg bentley, private reg jaguar and loads of cash.

ROLL ON THE END OF HIS CONTRACT!

Should we sign Joey Barton then???

only jokin!!!

My my Blades fans are split on Mr Hendrie.

I'm new to this forum and have found it interesting reading over Blades fans thoughts in this post.

My personal feeling is that i'd llike Hendrie to be given a chance. Yes he is a twat, but he is a very talented twat.

For me him returning from loan last season was a turning point. He came back and his attitude had obviosuly changed. I watched his body language at several away games and he was clearly interested in playing for the Blades. From what i gathered he knuckled down in training too. He deservedly got a chance in the team and looked like he would take it. Unfortunately he hobbled off in that Hull game and we didn't see him again.

Franlkly I think Blackwells under usage of Lee Hendrie in the latter stages was nothing short of criminal. Hendrie is calm, composed and creative. He is head and shoulder above all our other midfielders. I was jumping up and down shouting for Hendrie to be played along side Monty in the latter stages. With Quinn underperforming for a long time, it seemed only right.

However, Blackwell clearly does not like him. Maybe there is something we are missing (i.e. Hendrie doesn't perform well in teaining/doesn't care etc). The simple FACT is that KB will not pick him. He bought Dingle Howard and hence wants to stick with him. For reasons only known to himself, KB has picked and will keep picking Stephen Quinn. So unfortuantely, I doubt we'll see Hendrie unless it's forced.

To clear up a few facts. Hendrie has onloy started 12 games for United. Ever! Last season he started only 3 games. Personally I don't think that is enough. It does not consist of a decent run in the team or a chance to prove himself which a lot of Blades fans have called for.

Hendrie has by no means looked a world beater in red and white. However I do think he showed flashes of himself when coming off the bench at times last year. Burnley away sticks out for me. He came off the bench very, very late and looked by far our best player. Straight away he got the ball at his feet, skinned a couple of players and was taken out by a Burnley hatchet man. In that particular game Stephen Quinn had run around around a headless chicken for 70 minutes and contributed a big fat nothing.

Well plenty have;) Barton seems a complete psycho and he has run out of options at the moment I wouldn't want to see him in a Blades shirt any time soon. But Hendrie at worst comes across as a mouthy twat and this seems mostly out of frustration. Who wouldn't be frustrated sitting watching our central mid knowing you could do better?

Walking past the training ground on my lunch and he scored a belter! :D Seriously though, he looks like he works hard in training and seems to get along well with his team mates so I don't think it's his current attitude that stands in his way - more his previous attitude that Blackwell seems keen to keep making him pay for.

Its fair to say that Hendrie's stamina is his biggest let down along with his inability to mix it with the more physical midfielders in the division. I don't think anyone doubts his undoubted abilty to pick a pass and see openings quickly but unfortunately that isn't enough to warrant a start and do a 90 minutes

We have Monty to mix it with the more physical players.

We are crying out for a player that can pass in midfield and pick out openings- Howard has not don't it and neither has Quinn.

Seems that he might get a chance if he has been playing in the pre-season games.

I remember when he came on against QPR (I think might have been under Robson and scored), he totally changed the game.

The thing I like about him, is that when he has come on he tries to get the KOP going and give us something to shout about.

For me if things dont improve within the midfield, Hendrie should be given the chance.

If Blackwell is to stand by his words then there must be changes for Saturday.

what with throwing tantrums when he has travelled and not picked,

Any evidence to back this up?

Even if true, does this not show how much he wants to play?

to going on loan and stating he never wanted to wear the shirt again,

Let's not let the truth get in the way of a blatant lie hey?

I think you'll find he said he wanted to stay at Leicester.

But, why would anyone want to stay at a club he is clearly not wanted?

Yes he has talent, but an attitude , as long as United pay him hes got a life style to envy. Private reg bentley, private reg jaguar and loads of cash.

Like the majority of footballers. Should he not spend the money he is paid?

Of course not Robbie. Players should struggle to pay the rent and drive around in battered old Clio's like the fans, so that it doesn't offend them and just let their millions gain interest in the bank! ;)

Some fans bemuse me, if i'd have had the money Hendrie has in his career, i'd have a private reg Hummer and private reg Ferrari. If someone said to me you can't go around driving those, i'd tell them to sod off, and rightly so!
It's not as if Hednrie has bought all those items since being here, he was at very good Premier League club for years.

It's interesting that people are mentioning his attitude as a major pointer as to why he hasn't played.

If you look back through the forum, you'll notice that for some time i've been wanting him to be given a chance.

Having watching him in the reserves and his few first team flirtations, I have to say I think his attitude is spot on. He works hard, he talks a lot, he's confident on the ball and tries to create things. He's also gone out of the way to try and "bond" with the fans.

He's always had the reputation of being a bit of a twat, perhaps rightly so, but i've been very impressed with what i've seen of him recently. One of the big things that stuck out for me, was a reserve match I saw him play on the left wing, with a certain Kyle Naughton playing left back. The entire match, Mr Hendrie was encouraging Kyle, helping him with his positioning, geeing him up when Kyle perceived that he'd made a mistake etc. He was even sprinting the length of the field to cover at left back when Kyle got caught forward.

Contrast this with the rumors about him forcing the young 'uns to wash his car at Villa, or being cocky with fans. He's more than happy to talk to fans with a smile on his face and even a bit of banter.

If you attended the open day, you'll have noticed that after they'd had the squad photos, the only person to come across and sign things/have a chat with the fans on the way off the pitch was the evil pixie himself!

I think a lot of the comments thrown at him are currently very unfair, in the past, maybe justified, but I can't see what the bloke is doing wrong at present.

When his suspension is over, I'd like to see him in and around the squad, he offers a few things that we just don't have elsewhere in the squad.

My guess (and I have no inside knowledge of this) is that at some point Hendrie and KB fell out and KB won't choose him again to start unless it's a cup match or he's desperate.

Support for this comes from the treatment of Gillespie (never played again and contract bought out after allegedly throwing his toys out of the pram over non-selection at Norwich) and Carney (not played since he slagged KB off in that bizarre interview where he rated himself as a PL player).

Blackwell has had ample opportunity to start Hendrie in the league. He's simply never going to do it on a regular basis.

I started this thread and i'm baffled by the complete split on Hendrie, its like 50/50. I'm trying to think back to last season, he came on late as a sub and his first conribution was to take a free-kick into the back of the net! Thats one good feather in his hat since Beattie left, have we scored any free kicks?

His passing is head and shoulders above the rest, an by rest i'm not including Sir Nick of Montgomery (we can forgive him of this as he makes it up in other areas.) BUT Quinn & Howard we can't, what do they offer when they don't pass it well? Nothing. Hendrie, stick another feather in your hat.

His discipline has been questioned, a few rash challenges have lead him to be booked/sent off. I think this is him being over-enthusiastic when given 8 minutes to prove yourself. Give him a starting role and he'll ease his way in gently, get a feel for the game and figure out how to cut open the opposition. If KB told me, get warmed up lad you're going on for the last 5, i'd tell him to bollocks! But no, Lee Hendrie gets up, puts his kit on, runs his little legs off and gets booked, all because he's trying to prove his worth. Its the only way he can get into the game chase every loose ball. Give him an extended run in the team and he'll be different.

A player of his class can't just "lose it". He was a England international. A regular in one of the top clubs in England.

Come on Kev... Give him a chance.

P.S When does his suspension finish? did he get 3 or 4 games?

Think you've hit the nail on the head there matt. His passing ability in the middle is triple that of messer's Quinn and Howard and should start for that ability alone. I'd even be tempted to play him in the middle of diamond 5 with Evans up front and howard at the head of diamond. like this:

Monty
Little Hendrie Reid
Howard
Evans

Think he will be available for selection after Saturday.

BUT Quinn & Howard we can't, what do they offer when they don't pass it well? Nothing.

Whilst I don't disagree that Quinn has been poor for some time, it always amuses me to see his 7 goals dismissed as "nothing"....Some of the midfield 4s or 5s we could choose have no goals in them whatsoever.

This is what bothers me about this coming season. If Evans isn't a goalscorer, I just don't see us winning anywhere near as many games as we did last year.

The guy is a master of making it appear he is busting a gut to get the ball and is 110% committed to the cause. IMO he is only interested in his contract and wage packet. Sadly because of the stupidity of Robson and the board we are stuck with him.

Having said all that we are desperately short in midfield. Monty has a place every time for me, but Quinn and Howard??? Is Hendrie really that bad that he's behind these 2?

As I have said on another thread, my prediction for Ward is around 5 goals.

I think a lot of people forget about Jamie Ward, i really think he could get us around 15 goals this season

Not many people seem to be talking about him, it all depends ont he football we play.

If we keep it on the deck and try to get in behind teams I wouldn't be shocked if he is out top scorer.

But if we do the usual high ball he wont get anywhere near as many.

On the scorer poll, i voted Ward. He's got a lot to offer now he's acclimatised his self into the championship. Unlike other players we've got, he's not afraid to shoot. Even if it does go high and wide.

The tantrum , was thrown last season at an away match, he had travelled but was not picked, stormed out demanding the nearest steward called him a taxi.

In my opinion the guy is a leech on the wage bill at the lane. your view differs, ha ho !!:p

He can spend his money however he wants, just wish it was not our money !!

He stated he had finished with united when he went out on loan, i shall trool the net to find yout proof! but not today , am off to the match. :hello:

I liked the look of him when he came on last season,

What happened at wembley?
Twas too busy shouting at those pricks :D.

And they're losing :)

Comparing what Keef did for United to what the evil pixie has done could only give one sensible answer and it isn't the one above.
Hendrie has taken hundreds of thousands of pounds out of United and contributed virtually nothing at all.
Keef was likely paid less and contributed a whole lot more even if it did turn out sour in the end.

Just wondering if you're sticking with that prediction?

Oh yes.

Just wondering if you're sticking with that prediction?

Oh yes.

I can only hope that you will having those words rammed down your throat in a matter of weeks.

I think he should get around 10 goals this season, he has a real eye for goal, has the pace and trickery to frighten opposition defenders, and is not frightened to have a shot.

In fact i remember him having more attempts on goal after he joined last season than i can ever remember Billy Sharp having

I'd still be surprised to seem him get double figures. If he was more composed with 1 on 1's I'd agree with the 15.

That's what I'd get him working on in training.

I'll tell you one thing that Lee Hendrie has done wrong. He's fucking orange. Who in the right mind walks into a tanning salon and says "I'll have the most unrealistic skin tone outside of the Simpsons please"?
Then again, who in their right mind walks into a tanning salon?
